Yes - the President of the NCAA needs to be fired and replaced with someone with a brain.
He just stated on ESPN radio that IF the D1 football went to an 8-team BCS playoff (No. 1 vs. No. 8 - etc. down to a championship) it would CHEAPEN the other non- BCS bowl games! Say what?! Does anyone care about the Vitalis Sun Bowl? How about the Weedeater bowl?
Sure - I'll watch the Sun bowl on Friday Dec. 30th - if I have nothing else to do - but how could this bowl be LESS important right now outside of the two schools playing in the game? - which, by the way - would not change with a playoff system.
Gimmeee a break Brand - you're fired!

I, too, was listening. I couldn't believe it.
I want Texas to play USC, because I think it would be the best game; however, I would love to see the train wreck that would occur should the Trojans get knocked off by UCLA. It would be yet another nail in the BCS coffin...eventually it will be buried.

It's the POULAN-WEEDEATER INDEPENDENCE BOWL!
Anyway, a 16 team playoff would be more fair. That way each conference would get represented(each conference in basketball is represented, and no one complains, why not? I think it makes things more insteresting with the upsets), and still allow for 5 at large bids. Here is how it would be done this year:
(1) PAC-10/USC
(16) SUN BELT/Arkansas State
(9) AT LARGE/AUBURN
(8) AT LARGE/Oregon
(5) ACC/Virginia Tech
(12) MOUTNAIN WEST/TCU
(13) WAC/Frenso State
(4) SEC/LSU
(3) BIG 10/Penn State
(14) CUSA/Central Florida
(11) BIG EAST/West Virginia
(6) AT LARGE/Ohio State
(7) AT LARGE/Notre Dame
(10) AT LARGE/MIAMI
(15) MAC/Toledo
(2) BIG 12/Texas
---
See, what is wrong with this? Why would it not work? I think everyone would be happy. This year there is a big enough jump from the last at large bid(Miami) to destroy any controversy. UCLA could have a case, but they aren't better than Miami. Georgia and Alabama have faltered too much. And with each conference represented, the non-BCS conferences wouldn't gripe. It's fair for everyone.

Exactly. I hope that the BCS dies as fast as possible. It's not fair, its not right, and it sucks. Me being a supporter of a non-BCS team, I can't stand how often they do well and only lose once, and the BCS says no thanks but a 4 loss team gets to go? And if you are in a non-BCS conference, what is the point in even playing the season given that you can't win the national title no matter what? What is the point?
At least in college basketball they get a shot. The odds are astronomical, but its a shot and its fair. I love pulling for the 16 seeds even though they get raped each year, but this past year most of them played well and only lost by 10 or so. And Bucknell... loved it!

Auburn and Oregon getting a at large bid instead of Ohio st?? Ohio st lost 2 very close games to top 5 teams. Didn't USC beat Oregon by 1 million??;) And didn't Auburn lose to Georgia Tech? Ohio St. would clearly deserve an at large bid in your playoff scenario in my opinion.

Gotta start with baby steps - a 4 or 8 team p.o. first -- then maybe expand to 16 teams when the millions start rolling in. I also like just taking the top 8 in the polls - if 3 are from one conference - so be it. I hate the "your conference is guaranteed a spot" mentality - though I guess it does level the field. But, that's why Pitt got throttled by Utah last New Years at the Fiesta - they had no business being there.

In his scenario, Ohio St. did get the first at large bid
