I was looking forward to enjoying San Antonio during the high school
football playoffs this year. I was disappointed to learn the Alamodome was
not available for the playoffs. My wife and I attended two games during
2003 and enjoyed staying in downtown San Antonio with thousands of our
friends.
Sadly, we won't be coming this year.
Sincerely,
Allan Fuller

Good afternoon Mr. Fuller,
Let me first say that it is a great disappointment to Alamodome staff
also as we have come to enjoy the rivalry and great football games that
have been played here during the Playoffs and in regular season. To
simplify our situation, it is a timing issue for us.
As your area of the state has also been effected by the evacuation I
know you understand that the New Orleans Saints moved into the Alamodome
following their evacuation. They practice in the building every day,
however beginning on December 8 we have to remove the turf and begin a
six-day conversion for the NCAA Championship Volleyball Match that will
be held December 15-18. We begin converting the building back to turf
on December 19 for the December 24 Saints/Lions game. This essentially
makes almost every weekend in December unavailable either due to an
event or conversion time.
In November, our commitment to events that had been booked two and three
years in advance occupied many of the weekends we previously had
available for Playoffs.
Having the Saints here for the 2005 season was great but also created
some difficulties in having to flex our calendar somewhat around their
practice times and the NCAA event would have taken several "Playoff"
days off the calendar anyway.
It seems that all is still up in the air for 2006 if the Saints will
play any games in San Antonio. We hope that whatever the outcome of
their season is, it will be flexible enough that we can again host Texas
Football Playoffs.
Thank you for writing and for your kind words. Hopefully, we will see
you again next year.

Wow and same with Astromdome right? I attended many games at Astrodome and attented Alamodome once last year. It looks like all the college football stadiums allow High School Football to play on for playoffs like they always do.

Is it because the Saints are in the Alamodome part time and they're keeping it empty for them?

That was a nice response. You can't get any more cordial than that.
I also am going to miss going to San Antonio for High School football.
Had the best time in 03 when North Shore beat Austin Westlake. The river was hopping. Had dinner at the Hard Rock - Man - it was fun.

Oh heck yea, I went through Riverwalk the night before the Championship Game last year, wow it was alot of fun. I was surprised how big Alamodome was comparing to Astrodome because I thought it was small size stadium like smaller than Astrodome. It also looks new.

The Astrodome is a relic. A shell of its former self. It's gloomy and beginning to run down from neglec. None of the area teams except maybe Katy would choose it anymore. However, They are talking of moving a soccer team in there, so maybe they'll refurbish it. But I still hate watching football there.

I would expect that any municipality that would host the semifinal and state games would want to provide their best possible venue and accomodations.
If a semi were held in Houston it would require some 8 -10,000 people to stay over at least one night. A state game would draw even more particularly if it were Katy/SLC.
I would hope Reliant Stadium were made available. Katy has played there only twice - no homefield advantage as compared to Texas Stadium for SLC.
Other choices might be Kyle Field, Baylor, San Marcos or Austin.

Reliant Stadium would have been alot better and bigger.

Being an engineer, I spend most of my time finding answers to questions.
More often than not, the answer is right in front of my eyes.

Personally, I think Bobcat stadium in San Marcos is perfect for high school playoff games. It isn't so big as not to make the crowd look small, but it is big enough to handle all of the playoff game crowds.
