Without a doubt in my mind Lufkin is and will be ready for cove come friday. Lufkin had, in my opinion, one the strongest performances defensively that i have seen by them in recent history, this coming at a time when many people jumped on the criticizm banwagon headed straight for the Lufkin defensive unit. To me it really didnt come as a suprise, I knew what they were capable of doing and it was just a matter of time before they showed it and i do believe that we can have similar success against anyone that we do play including cove. Not to say that cove will only score 7 points all game, i dont think that will happen but i do feel as if we do have one of the most talented defenses in the state. We have great speed and decent size oh and for those who saw the game saturday we can really lower the boom on anyone on the field. Our defense is good but so is that offense. Now when you look at our team the offense can really make some noise running or passing. Led by the new king of the touchdown pass in Lufkin history J.C. as i like to call him is a sound leader who looks more like a little kid than a fearless gun slinger, but he is just that, not to mention he is surrounded by some of the best recievers the state has to offer. Unfortunitley dez, marcus, ralph and thadius humans only look at numbers to see who is good or not. Theses recievers are dangerous and are all capable of slipping of the radar and making a big play whenever called apon. Not to mention kibble and turner( the mini bull dozer and speedster) are very capable of loosening up a defense and gaining big yardage throughout a game. And finally we have Jamie Fernandez the spanish boot as i like to say, is very capable of making field goals from beyond 50 yards. I think that the game will be very good and hard fought. I know that Lufkin will have to come ready to play or they could get their feelings hurt, but i also know that same can happen to cove. Good Luck to cove and good luck to the pack.

Your right Jeremy Claybon does look like a 12 year old paper boy but has the mind of an assain at QB. Lufkin had one of its best showings of the year defensively. I was glad to see the Purple Shirt defensive clicking Saturday. Cove no doubt will test the Pack in every aspect of the game but I believe Lufkin will come away with a "W"

So correct me if I'm wrong please. But since we flipped home for home (I think). Does this mean Cove is the home team? Need to know what side I'm sitting on. Blue and Purple look ok together but I'd feel safer on the blue side, lol. Go Dawgs

Lufkin has many many many performances defensively like the one last week in the past 5 years or so. That is nothing new. Yes the Lufkin D did deserve to be critisized a little after the last 2 games and Outlaw did his share also. Why are you telling us about the Lufkin team when we know every detail about them? ;) Claybon broke Reggie Mcneil's td record by 3 last week in 3 less games. He is quietly becoming a star without all of the hype. Great td to int ratio.

your right we panther fans do no this but does that mean everybody does, probably not. Look at the title what does it say "Lufkin is ready for cove" does it say come and say what panthers fans already now as factual no. I was very simply, without going into to much detail, letting people know that some of our focal points of criticizm throughout the season had been corrected. and i know you were not trying to start anything but that was just what i felt i should type at the time. go panthers

Lufkin is the home side - I believe home is the west side? May have directions mixed up. CCove won the site coin toss - and selected FLoyd Casey because they wanted to play on turf, not grass. Friday night was the only slot available due to private school p.o.'s -- Lufkin won the home side flip.

"Tradition never greduates" Thats great! I know thats true, ive seen it. When 16 and 17 year old young men see the pictures, and trophys in the school and field house, they know what the expectations are when they put that helmet on before the game. I believe tradition and experienced playoff coaching is worth at least 10 points for Lufkin in this game. But thats just me:)

I agree Grayowl -- but it will still be a nailbiter.:)
In the pouring rain - Lufkin had 5-8 former Lufkin greats on the sidelines cheering on the Pack. Jorvorski Lane and Alton Dixon have been big cheerleaders the past two weeks. You can't measure stuff like that - and nobody pays these guys to go to the games. And I firmly believe these guys would be there after a loss as well. But, it provides extra motivation to duplicate what the alumni did.
I hope all schools have this kind of mentoring going on.

All of us former players are really cheering them on. I feel there is unfinished business out there they need to take care of to get that bitter taste out our mouth.

thats a funny little quote, and a great one on top of that. if your really read that and think that lufkin will only score 10 points in a ball game you are crazy. it will be a great game and good luck to both teams. Also i would never put LufkinFan05(CoveFan05) because were fans for life not for a season.

well i sure hope lufkin can score 20 points according to you cause that means we can win:rolleyes:. Like i said this will be a great game but some people are just to new to the spotlight that they get over exited when the home town team begins to get recogition. You caught me i did it in 2001, but got help with my addiction. good luck to cove and Lufkin.

well those are nice to bad they mean nothing in the playoffs, besides i could care less how many points cove scored unless scoring a certain total of points during the regualr season means you get spot 15 at the beggining of the game friday. im not sure what our points per game were because i dont brag because we are in a weak district, who knew. and isnt that waco game 3ot's and they were 2 and what. unfortunitely for Lufkin coach outlaw put in our backups when we got a big lead. hopefully Lufkin will win friday, but unlike other people on this website i know that any team can lose at any time so i wont run my mouth.

Ok...I'm not bragging, your the one that said "we score 20 we win" and I was giving facts that we score 35 a game and havent been held under 20 this year...So what if Waco was 2-8, they played a helluva non-district and they could've beat n e one in the state that night.By the way the regular season doesn't matter but here is what were averaging in the playoffs 44.7 a game and 18 against

yeah you scored 65 point KF come on. i saw them first hand they are in our district duh. let me guess they just had an off day. and i thought you were saying lufkin would need 20 points to be conidered having a chance. and you want to no you have outscored your opponents by 80 points in the playoffs. numbers mean nothing. i could say we average 100 points a game and lose. so be for real. yeah and that played a tough non district schedule so what happened in district. if you can be so sloppy against a bad team what makes you think it cant happen again. good luck to both teams

Just checking fellas. Have any of you Lufkin fans actually been to a Cove game yet? Just asking because I have been to see the Panthers play on 2 occassions in the playoffs. I do this so I can form in my own little mind what to expect if we were to meet. I still have that knot in my stomach but it's not because I don't think the Dawgs will win. It's because I know anything can happen. If both teams play their games......well then. Go Dawgs

If you are referring to our first two games of the playoffs at Waco, I believe we will perform better than that. Our defense was out of sync. and our offense had played better as well. If you saw the game this past Saturday in Nacogdoches, then that is what I believe we will come to the game Friday night with. If we don't it might be a long ride home.

Tradition, your new to this board. I appreciate you giving Lufkin the props, they deserve it, but also realize that Cove has a great team as well. A 13-0 record speaks volumes for both teams.
I can tell you Coach Outlaw and Coach Welch have a few differences in their approach to how they play their kids when the game has been won early. However, they both have the same goal, winning.
Everyone can talk about district strengths and what not until they are blue in the face, guys it doesn't matter in the fourth round.
Head to head or common opponents have some bearing, but not in the fourth round.
Harker Heights is a common opponent for both Cove and Lufkin. Both have similar situations. HH had a 20-14 lead on Cove in the fourth quarter at Cove, before the Bulldawgs came back and won 35-20. Mistake and turnovers cost HH and allowed Cove to capitalize. In Lufkin's game, we had to travel 3 hours to their 45 min to play HH in Waco. Lufkin was looking too hard at the HH 6-4 record and plays their worst game of the year, but hold on to win in OT. There were plays in the 4th quarter, just like HH had in the Cove game that could have gone either way for both teams. In this case Lufkin won even though they played badly.
The other common opponent is Klein Forest. Lufkin wins at Lufkin 37-21, s/b 37-14, Kf scores on our 2nd team with less than 1 minute in the game. We played this game on a Wednesday night with 3 days practice. It was the Hurricane Rita schedule and this game could have been worse. This was a stretch that Lufkin was playing 3 games in 11 days. We were just trying to win the game and get the starters out to rest them for the next game. When you see what we had to deal with in our situation, the Cove 62-12 shellacking of KF doesn't look like a difference maker.
I say all that to say this, I think Lufkin and Cove are two evenly matched teams and I also think you can throw all the comparisons and common opponents to this point, out the window because in the 4th round, it becomes a brand new ballgame boys. If you have never been to the fourth round, this is the round you will find out if you can step it up to the next level or not. Believe me Lufkin knows, we have been to the semi-finals 3 out of the last 4 years, we know how tough the road gets from this point.
Two evenly match opponents will take the field on Friday night, I like Lufkin's chance because they have been here before and I think our defense is better than Cove's.

Thank You Lpfan. Even though I am guilty of posting scores, the reality of it is what you said. The team that wants it the most will win. I was talking to one of our standout players the Sunday after Klein Forest game and asked him how bad did the team want a State Championship? Of course he said very bad. Well the bottom line here exactly what you said. All teams at this point are capable of winning it all if they give it their all. They have got to want it more. I mean bad enough to give it the extra effort during each play not each quarter, if you follow what I'm saying. It's going to be fun, that's all I can say. Go Mighty Dawgs
