with the early out by Lufkin the past 2 years -- I dont think 14 - 5A can play with he big boys yet

TWH --- I wasnt surprised ( hurt --- but not surprised ) by the decline toward latter part of sesaon -- including the early out. as I told the fans ( parents ?? ) that were talking "STATE" here back in August before the first snap --- they need to cool it -- dont build up high expectations. I posted about the " lack of focus " as the season wore on -- but was explined to me by a "football " person --- a team MUST get better as the season progresses --the good teams do , the pretenders dont -- as I saw it TWH -- ( players AND coaches DID NOT GET BETTER ) . I worry about next season with all the starters graduating -- 10 on Defense and I think 8 or 9 on Offense

Conroe was a solid ( but up and down ) team this year --- need to strengthen non-district schedule

Oak Ridge --- I was surprised that they made Playoffs --- some talent -- but no real desire --and practically NO support

CP -- surprised they DIDNT make PO's. Carson WILL NOT change his offense -- so 1 or 2 rounds are about the max you can expect

Lufkin -- living on their rep . I dont know what to say about LP

New Caney -- living DOWN to their rep. It is just going to get worse -- understand they are planning on a 2nd high school -- split the talent (? )

as you can see -- I can only speculate about TWH -- the other 5 teams I dont have any first hand knowledge

3 things of the 2008 season that I did not expect:

1. Oak Ridge making and CP missing the playoffs.
2. TWH winning all but one regular season games by double digits.
3. Lufkin not having a great season, its just unusual.

and CPTRAINER, im a trainer over at The Woodz

Thoughts on the district overall - its getting better. I dont think the top teams (woodlands, Lufkin) have improved much at all (talk more about lufkin in a min) but i do feel like CP, Conroe, and even oak ridge have gotten better every year.
CP was having a down year due to a young team, it happens, dont think anyone was rly surprised at that.
Woodlands - last years predistrict schedule beat the hell out of your players and took the heart out of them, this years team had alot easier schedule and just didnt seem to learn how to be very scrappy. Blow out everyone early in the season and hit some teams prepared for you and they got you (round rock beating lufkin)
Lufkin - a mix of things, tough schedule, and a ton of injuries...more than ive ever seen before in a single season...jeesh maybe even more than 2 seasons put together. Not alot of out for the year injuries but tons of 1 or 2 weeks ones. But the biggest problem was fumbles, fumble, fumble, fumble fumble fumble. Not sure who to point the finger at for that, but its the second year is been a major problem with both the QB and RB (though he did get better after the woodlands game). I would say Claybon never stepped up to be the leader the pack O needed, he was a good QB, not great, but good, but with the way lufkins O plays the QB has to be the man out there both in leadership and in skill, and if hes not a reciever has to step up huge, or we have to have an awsome RB to pick up yards and they were missing all that.

Loved the D this year though, definatly the best ive seen since 03.

Still at the end of the year cant say any of the 14-5a teams rly surprised/disappointed me. I was expecting lufkin to have its worst year this decade, though not quiet as bad as it turned out. I was expecting the woodlands to hit a wall, particulary after the lufkin game (though i did think they would make it one round further). Think everyone in the district is somewhat disappointed in there year. But the good news is i think everyone is looking forward to next year with alot of hope and are expecting improvement.
