Anyone know the teams with the most Championships (4+)? Is Plano #1 with 7?

if you mean 5a championships, i think coju tops that list. permian also has more big classification titles, than plano, who had 3 in the smaller 2 classes, before their first in 4a in 77.

The way Trooper82nd is posting I would have bet money that Cove was the winningest, greatest, most dominant program at all times, in all sports, in all classifications and in all states.

Here are the facts.
1. Plano and Brownwood have the most State champion ships with 7 each. 2. Plano has the most all time wins in post season action with 84 and
counting.
3. Plano holds the all-time attendance record of 49,832 in the 1977 State
Final vs PNG.

Just the facts!!

To be the best you have to beat the best!!

The Plano Mystique is back!!

Brownwood and Plano have 7 titles. 5A only (or 4A when it was the top classification) Permian, Judson, and Abilene have 6 titles.

Brownwood's first title was 1960.
Plano got their first one in 1965.

I think Plano has 3 in 5A.

Permian has 4 in 5A.

Abilene has 0 in 5A.

Judson has 6 in 5A.

Odessa Permian records -

School opened in 1960

4A/5A titles in 65, 72, 80, 86, 89, 91

Also played in 12 4A/5A title games which I believe is the record.

Before anyone jumps me, Permian won in 84 not 86, the others are correct. 6 titles in 4A/5A

I thought it was 11 - still a Texas Record
1995-1991-1989-1985-1984-1980-1975-1972-1970-1968-1965.

You must be including 1988, when Permian reached the title game in the FNL movie - sorry just my attempt at a bit of humor.

I lost interest in counting state titles after they created the whole Division 1/Division 2 system. You can win a title but it doesn't mean you are the best team in 5A because you didn't necessarily beat the best teams. They could have been in the other division.

Correct toonman- I just looked back and it is 11.

Also seems Permian has always had a problem with Plano

77 Semis - Plano 3 - Permian 0
78 Semis - Plano 6 - Permian 3

(This was my Jr. and Sr. year at Permian so remember them well)

87 Semis - Plano 29 - Permian 21
94 Semis - Plano 10 - Permian 0

Permain has only met Judson once - 95 title game Judson 31 - Permian 28

plano had (using todays standards) 2 3a titles,65 &67, 1 4a title, 71, and 4 5a titles,77, 86, 87, and 94, with title appearences in 78 and 93.

I know the last 2 were at Ratliff. What about the 70's games? Plano went on to win the title in 3 of those years so Permian could very well have the record if it wasn't for my Cats. :p

And now the same coach that was at Permian is at FMMarcus and is 0-2 against Plano.

Where is the bad info? Permian, Judson, and Abilene have never played in a lower classification state championship game. They've always been in the top classification. The top class was 4A when Permian opened in 1959. Abilene, to my knowledge, has always competed in whatever was the top classification at the time. Not sure about Judson, but I do know that all their titles came after the UIL created 5A. Each school has 6 titles in the top classification.

Is there something about Brownwood and Plano that I got wrong?

Abilene does have six state championsihps, Lonny, in what was the largest classification at the time. 3 of them were straight.

dragonsdaddy I hate to agre but technically he is right.

Depends on how you look at it on number of titels regardles of classification or by classification.

Plano 7, I beleieve Brownwood 7 or 8

Judson is up there, Permian is up there,

Isn't SLC close 2 5A but didn't you win some in 3A and 4A????

The 4a title is equivalent to the 5a. Because the UIL didn't create 5a, they just renamed the classes since the small schools didn't like being called Class B. Everything else remained the same at the time.

mojodragon

SLC had one title in the 80's, set a record for consecutive regular season wins at something like 76 in the early 90's with 2 titles and then 2 in 5a for total of 5.
