View Full Version : A tribute to the triplets

Since the triplets will probably never play together again I thought I would start a thread dedicated to them. I saw somewhere in another thread where somebody was talking about how you don't usually see three great players in the same class. I just wanted to say you guys played great and have left us with great memories. I know I can remember watching Burkhead when he was a freshman and you just thought to yourself wow it is going to be great watching him grow up, and it was nothing less but great. Burkhead had a little over 6500 yards in the 4 years he was there as a Wildcat. Meger had 6400 yards in two years at being a starter and threw 16 interceptions his first year and only 3 in the second year ( all 3 came from the Allen game). Kris Lott son of Thomas Lott ( played at Oklahoma and then St. Louis Cardinals finished his high school career with 2400 yards and 18 touchdowns. I don't know if Meger will play football or not I know UTEP was looking at him, but I am not sure if he wants to play. Who else do you think might offer him a scholarship? It will be awesome to see Kriss Lott and Rex Burkhead play college ball. People are saying Burkhead might be going to Texas but I don't think Texas ever offered him a scholarship. I know he went down there and they wanted him to commit but he felt rushed, or that is the rumor going around. Any word on where Kris Lott might go? I know there were some big schools looking at him. Also do you think the triplets have a special bond, or just on the field? I think it would be cool if they were best friends out of high school. You guys will be talked about for many years to come, best of luck to you guys. :D

I must admit, I've come away from this game with a much better sense of Lott than last year. He's a beast.
But if I could choose 2 co MVP players of the year I'd pick the duo of Burkhead and Meger.

I don't know who our QB will be, but having Robert Robinson, Holt Hoetger and Jared Kirchmeier coming back will be good. Can any Plano faithful give us a insight on 2009? I know there are two sophmores on the line that should really help out next year. Again you guys really left us with a lot of great memories.
Here's some recruiting news on the "Triplets" When you go to the page it gives you a article and video's. On the left of the page is their score and schools they are considering. It appears that only Meger has no schools listed and there isnt alot of info on him, but there is a video and score on him.

Very impressive players. We saw them in Week 2. Plano was blessed with talent this year.

Those guys were great to watch. I tell you.....Trinity has played some great teams over the last four years, but Burkhead is the only player that just scares you to death every time he touches the ball.

We played alot of juniors & soph's on defense. I believe our defense will be in much better shape and on offense we got those 3 and that's about it.
We have to replace the triplets and the entire OLINE.
To be fair not only a big shout out to the Meger, Lott & Burkhead but the 2 year starters on the ONLINE were a big part of their success the last 2 years.
Kim, Boyd, Talley were great all-district performers and played great all year. Meger always had time to throw and on Saturday night they showed they can dominate the best defense in the state.
With Jaydon as HC the program is going in the right direction. I thought the play calling against Trinity and the defensive steps they took to limit were great. Huge improvement in the play calling as the season went along. Kimbrough won only 6 games in his first season and Brence won 8. Then the following two years they played in the state title splitting 1 and winning 1. So maybe it's in the cards in the next 2 years.

Genius.
The Oline were technically superior, I saw that on film but didn't correctly gage their effect in the game...that's why they play the game right? But you don't really need a great push for the skill position guys you had, just someone to seal the corner for a second or two or to run interference, but they blocked 2nd level extremely well...this is where I knew where they'd be successful.
It will be hard to replace the Tripplets, Trinity will have it's own growing pains as well with almost 20 senior starters gone, but the good programs seem to rebound quickly most of the time...I expect the same from both Trinity and Plano.
All the banter back and forth I must say you've made it fun, sorry about my rant on other threads.
Back to the topic.
The whole Plano team and even the much maligned defense surpassed my expectations and then some, with the exception of Meger and Burkhead, I allready knew what to expect and wasn't dissapointed

There are a lot of unique things about this year’s team, the triplets being one of them. They have played with or against each other since they were in grade school. The have gone to school together since 6th grade. They also have brothers who are friends that were seniors on that great 05 team.
They have an amazing relationship on the field. I have heard that several times a game they change the play at the line just by looking at each other and the result is a huge play.
There are a lot of other kids who have been responsible for Plano’s success this year. Plano does not get the move in or transfer athlete that it once did, or that so many teams get in this day and age. This team is comprised almost entirely of life long Plano kids who have worked together towards a common goal.
I’m sure Rex’s head is spinning with all of the opportunities. He has a lot to consider in how his choice will fit into his long term goals. Where ever he goes he will be a stud. It appears that Kris is getting little attention from bigger schools. Probably because he does not have 4.5 speed. Colleges would rather have a track guy than a guy who makes play after play. It looks better to your boosters if a guy has stars after his name in recruiting lists and speed gets you stars. Height also gets you stars if you are a QB. That is the only thing Carson lacks. Watching his intensity on the field lends me to believe he would love to play at the next level, where I’m sure he would be very successful.
From everything I’ve seen and heard these guys are better people off the field than on. They have been great models to those who will continue the great traditions at Plano.
The best thing the triplets have done was to bring a refreshing excitement back to Plano FB that has been lacking for several years. The current HC has had a lot to do with that and I’m sure it will continue.
Thanks from the long time Plano fans. Sorry for the expose`

It's safe to say that Rex leaves as the all time rushing leader and TD leader in Plano history, Carson leaves as the all time leader in passing yards, completions & TD passes and Kris Lott leaves as Plano's all time reception and yardage leader.
I can't believe Carson isn't being recruited he has a uncanny ability to step up in the pocket, side step or rollout when he feels pressure and is as accurate throwing on the run than standing in the pocket. He has ROMO qualites with his pocket presence. I hope colleges take a second look at him. He is a winner and in my opinion is the best throwing QB in the metroplex.

Me either. I have a feeling its got alot to do w/ his size. IMO he would probably be ranked top 25 QB's on rivals if he had another 2 inches or so. Hopefully some school will take the chance w/ him that Mizzou took w/ chase daniels and his size, look how it turned out for them... However, as far as I know, Meger hasn't gotten any 'offers' from D1 schools yet. And that is a severe blow to my faith in the college recruitment system. After his tremendous game against the star studded ET D, hopefully some colleges will think again about giving him a shot. Only time will tell.
As for Lott and Burkhead, it will be exciting to see what they do in the D1 scene. They will both be tremendous assets to whichever team they decide to join next year. Best of luck to all three of "The Plano Triplets."

I think colleges were well-aware of his amazing talent long before he played Trinity. He's been on their radar screens for a couple of years.

I agree that hes been on a lot of recruiters radar, yet still no offers. Here are some numbers for you to look at.
Carson Meger career stats:
441/666: giving him a 66.2% career accuracy.
6,447 career passing yards.(Lott and Burkhead combined for a little less than 1/2 of these yrds.)
50 Passing TD's, 13 Rushing Td's
16 Ints as a Jr (coming off of 2 consecutive ACL surguries and 1-1/2 yrs of not playing the sport)
Only 3 INTs as a more matured and experienced Sr.(all in the Allen game)
If i saw these as a recruiter for a smaller d1 school, id be all over this kid.

The kid is a stud and can flat out play.. I would look at what I highlighted (bolded) as a probable reason he isnt getting the attention from colleges that he deserves.

Maybe with his ACL history he's not interested in playing college ball. Not every kid wants to continue to the next level.

With Meger I would say that what was mentioned plus height and speed are negatives, ability to avoid the rush at the next level, but I am sure he will get something, D3, NAIA would be a good fit, if he wants to play and have consistant success. Most teams are looking for a dual threat guy now a days, but if he gets put into a system like he is in, with a bunch of athletes that make alot of yards after the catch, then he will be fine. Like Plano Hasbeen said, if you take Lott and Burkhead out of the mix, Plano isn't Plano anymore.
Lott I would say is highly underrated and should go to a large D1, he will be awesome! Strong, big, fast as he need to be and he will get much faster. He has a long stride, but he is fast and quick. He could probably transition to safety at D1 level.
Burkhead D1, at multiple positions, we have seen enough of him.

I agree with you on this, Burkhead has an edge about him, he is fearless and he was drilled multiple times in the game Saturday, because of a late pitch or throw from the QB, but he always got back up quick. I was just impressed that Burkhead would get up quick while the ET players were still laying on the ground. He has the old school mentality with the new school swagger:notworthy

It will be interesting to see which side of the ball Rex winds up on. He looked excited to play some D on Saturday.
With so many colleges using big possesion type receivers these days Kris should be able to play anywhere. He has great size and great hands.
ACL surgeries are not the big deal that they use to be and Carson does not seem to show any ill effects. He showed great ability to run the ball against Trininy last week. He should get faster in college also. Also, with a guy like Rex in the backfield there really was no reason for Carson to run the ball this year. If any one of the three is not in the game the other two suffer somewhat. Usually is the case at any level for any successful team. The 3 together is what made it special. I heard yesterday that Carson has several
D2 and some D1 schools showing interest. He is much better than D3 or NAIA.

When did Carson injure ACL? I thought last year he ran extremely well, he looked ok this last saturday, didn't run enough to notice a drop off, only the number of times he was called to run the ball perhaps...but that's about all

Where do you guys think Burkhead will go and what position he would play? I could see him playing about 5 different positions depending on the level of competition he wants to play. I kinda hope to see Burkhead and Lott get a chance to cntinue to play together.

As far as I'm concerned all 3 of them are champions. They may not have the rings to show it but they will go down as the best trio of offensive players Plano has ever had and for that matter one of the best ever that ANY team has had. Thanks for the memories guys:notworthy

Lott and Burkhead will both be big time players. I know they are real good friends and there has been talk with the parents that it would be great if they go to the same university, but I think the chances of that are tough, just purely based on scholarship numbers. At this point I see Lott at Kansas, Oklahoma or Oklahoma State and Burkhead at Texas, A&M, Nebraska or Stanford. Just a thought, but if a program does a package deal on the Dynamic Duo it would be a bargain.

I'm leanin towards lott going to osu (or ou if its offerrd)and burkhead following in big bros footsteps going to the ivy league stanford. From what I know, Meger would rather take his chances going to a d1 school and walk on even if it means practice squad over going to d2 or lower. And as of now he only has 1 d1 offer in air force... Who's run scheme wouldn't be a very good fit for him

Burkhead - Stanford, Harvard
Lott - OU, UNT

Burkhead and Lott will go Big XII.
You have to have a pretty clean medical history to get admitted into the military academy and the scheme would be bad for Meger, he is a system qb, surround him with a bunch of great athletes and a short passing game and he will be fine in some program.
