I know its really not a big deal for anyone who doesn't go to the yootsa, but the debate of a football team has been going on for years, and the board has completely ignored the students disdain for not having one. I, for one, am sick of driving to san marcos to watch someone else's team play every week, I want my own. I heard in the rumor mill that they MIGHT put some plans together to try and get one by like 2010 or somethin, which is long after i graduate, but its still just a rumor. If they are concerned about money they could just build a practice facility and then play at the 'Dome or at Farris Stadium. Hell they hike up tuition and such by so much every semester that I'd pay a little bit more to see this actually happen. Whats everyone's thoughts on that?

P.S. Utsa staff complains of students having no school pride, I wonder why?

I go to UTSA and it is not that big of a deal for me for a few reasons: I am in the CAPS program and will be at UT next year, Austin is right down the road and the Longhorns are my squad, and I actually went to the Bobcats game this weekend and enjoyed it just as much as I would a UTSA game. I wouldn't mind if UTSA got a team, I would support them but if not, oh well. Like the stupid football T-shirts say... "Still Undefeated"

Yeah I hate those shirts, but UTSA admins have said that they are trying to make moves so that UTSA wouldn't be considered a "commuter" school and this isn't helping. I understand if youre on the CAPS program so it doesnt really affect you personally, but for the people that know they are going to be there for awhile need something like football to be enthusiastic about. Every year its the same, go to class, go home. Our basketball teams not that bad but its just not the same. They need to think of the people who are going to be there for awhile.

Can't argue with you on that. It would be nice to have a football team but i don't see it happening.Where would they play? I suppose they could play at that NEISD stadium a few miles down the road. Maybe at the dome. If it were at the dome I am not sure how good the fan support is as the dome is quite a bit away. Not to mention the team would most likely stink in their inaugural years and many fans won't support a losing team.

I don't think the basketball team is very good this year. Too young. Basketball is my first love and I would rather have a basketball team than a football team. I love football but I have been entertained by HS football, Bobcat football, and Longhorn football.

I have a friend that goes to UTSA with his wife. He's a huge football fan and was pissed that they didnt have a team. However, he grew up a Longhorn fan just like me and follows them pretty closely so it's not too bad. His brother just started at TSU so they follow the Bobcats as well.

I am, and will always be a die-hard longhorn, hell i drove to austin every home game from here just to tailgate, but it still would be nice to say that we have our own team here, sure they'd be bad in the first few years, but with the right coach and recruiting, who knows?

I've been looking into this since I live near the campus and have found that they want one in the next several years. They're building things in phases. Next up is the expansion of the Rec center, new dorms, a new power plant, and expansion of the UC. The next phase after that includes a football facility and a performing arts center.

Like UTA, UTSA is too large of a school to not have a football team. Of course the schools down south need them, too.

Yea, I also goto UTSA. From what I've heard when I talked to the AD, she says they're trying to get one by 08.

They could honestly field a pretty competitive football team. There are so many high schools in the area and more than half of the players don't go onto play college ball.

The school apparently considers Texas State our rival. If football was here, you could make an arguement for that, but we only have basketball to really fulfill that rivalry. We're also the 2nd biggest school in Texas (I think) behind UT Austin, so I think you'd get a lot of walk ons and again, could field a pretty decent team.

I would even think about walking on.

They could play at Farris Studium and if they have solid fan base they could move to the Alamodome.

That is true, we are the 2nd biggest, at least thats what the OL told me when I visited UTSA as a senior, and that was 3 years ago! The school has grown considerably since then. And when it comes to talent in San Antonio, there is quite a pool here, not saying that all the prospects would go to UTSA but it would at least be an option other than TxState or a D2 school like trinity.

Oh, and tailgaiter, so would I. I'd actually even wear UTSA apparel seeming as theres no real reason to now.

UT
A&M
Houston
North Texas
Texas Tech

are all larger schools. UT-Arlington and UTEP might be.

They're giving you boys bad info.

UT has over 50K.
A&M has almost 50K.
Houston and North Texas are over 30K.
Texas Tech is around 30K.
UTA and UTEP are both over 20K and Texas State is close to it.

UTSA had about 20K the last time I heard.

He is talking about the second largest in the UT system.

UT is the largest followed by UTSA with over 27,000, then UTEP with like 23,000 to 24,000.

UTEP about 19,000
UTA about 25,000

According to their respective websites.

UTSA is indeed the 2nd largest. UTA not far behind.

27,000 is the attendance figure I heard in August.

UTSA is a great campus and growing - I was impressed. It would be great for San Antonio. And it would give me another excuse to go there for the weekend- aside from HS football playoffs.

I talked to someone on the campus today about it and they were saying that if you guys want this thing cranking out any sooner than 2010, then you need to organize and voice your opinion. They said something about a referendum needing to be passed to add another $50-$100 onto your current fees to start a good budget going. Regardless, the person said voice your opinion. Sounds to me like it is all you can do right now. Let the SA Express News know as well that you want them to try and get SA support behind a team. I live less than 2 miles from the campus. If I stick around, I would definitely be down for going crazy for the Roadrunners (New mascot anyone?)

That was a bad picture of the girl and I in no way resemble that dork at the computer. I need to send you another picture. I'm married, but separated, and we have temporary divorce orders. One of the guys over here said he'd think about taking her back with him, but he's afraid she would leave him for a richer guy!:D

now we're just being pathetic:D. in any case we really need to change our mascot. excuse me for not being very PC but rowdy is kinda "gay". and as far as voicing our opinion, it couldnt be done enough, we've been *****ing to the AD for years with very little cooperation, I'm starting to think theyre tired of the whole thing. My tuition is already high so why not tack on a little extra more so we can see some collegiate football here in San Antonio, i'm gonna be paying off my student loans for years to come anyways!
