we can all admit that SLC is a dominating team in 5a. well what makes them so different? they do summer programs, and so do other schools. they lift weights, and so do other schools. there are coaches in the state that are equally as good as dodge, and other schools definitly have playmakers...but what sets SLC apart?

I know it's your first post, and I'm not going to be a punk about it. However, we've got about 10-20 threads (at least) out there on this topic already from present/past.

I haven't read all 50+ pages (seriously) on the topic, but I will say there isn't a big secret to beating SLC in my opinion. There is no special formula. It takes a top notch team effort all-around.
SLC has a great harmony between coaching staff, players, and scheme in addition to the strong community support they receive.
I don't know if you were old enough (or even in Plano) when your Wildcats were the game on everyone's schedule, but I'm sure those people can fill you in on how Plano did it consistently back in the day. So many factors go into it and it's tough to explain. What works for one program is different from what will work at another.

i'd prolly agree that there's no big secret to beating them but i find it remarkable that a team that looks as good as Allen (despite the talent or w/e else) can beat a team that looks like SLC. not that SLC looks like a crappy team but Allen's o-line was just massive, and SLC's d-line isn't all that big. it's matchups like those that i dont get

What team is statistically better in 5A than SLC? None that I am aware of.
Size of the O line is important, but give me speed, brains and skill over size anytime. Not that Allen doesn't have these attributes too.

i dont think that entire teams were statistically better than SLC, but at certain positions there are better than what we have. christian ponder from CHHS was better than mcelroy at that time (maybe not now cuz he's not playing). ponder had more td passes etc. there are also better running backs than tre, i.e. emanual moody from coppell. point is there are teams w/ better players, but SLC works out of a system (like ppl said about the Patriots and tom brady while on their streak) and the system works for us. we have a specific game plan that we stick to and always come out swinging

You need me around to make this topic more interesting. The only problem is somebody will come along and ruin it by turning it into a fight.
No, I'm not serious. I know people do it, but I don't know where and it's not fair to accuse without evidence.

Speed on both sides of the ball.
Amazing Offensive Line.
Full size indoor practice field probably helps.
Being one of the richest districts in the state helps things as well.
