ABC/KSAT 12 in San Antonio reported a 41-21 victory for SA Southwest! :D
Someone told me that SW had all 41 points by halftime, Im guessing they put in backups for the second half.
Smithson Valley were coming! Huge underdogs, but the team that wants it more will win! I doubt anyone has SW winning the game but that doesn't matter. SW has one of the best backs in region 4, plus a solid defense... so we'll see

The most playoff experience this team has is second round loss to Judson last year. This year could be better, more confidence.

How is SV's run defense? Im giving them the benefit of the doubt that its pretty good.
If all of Southwest's running backs get going, SV will have to play consistent defense. A team like SW can throw in a fresh running back just as good as the last one any time.

SW put up 41 in the first half.I predicted that the score would be 42-14 by the end of the game. I was totally elated to see the dragons play the way they did and throw up the points early. PSJA'S last td came with less than a minute left after SW failed to convert a 4th and 4 on their own 15. If you ask me I think they gave it to them! Afterall it looked like SW put the freshman team outthere midway through the third or we are in trouble next year!! SW can beat SV if and only if they believe in themselves and they play with the courage and heart. Great win today! I Enjoyed it! Now im gonna enjoy the fresh shrimp i picked up on the bay!!!!!

I'm glad Southwest has won big many times this season, so this wasn't new. No overconfidence here, that usually kills teams!
It's obvious how great of a team Smithson Valley is, hopefully that makes you want to play them harder!

P-ville was all an all running offense and had a ton of players returning from there state run last year and Sv never let them cross there own 40 yard line.Going to need some kind of passing game and ball control to beat SV...though I could be wrong and SW comes out and has a 400 yeard rushing game lol

In SV you will be facing a defense that has given up only about 12 points per game-21 in 2 playoff games combined.If all you do is run then they will shut you down regardless of how many RB's you have.They are the best conditioned team around and get better as the game goes on.You will also have to contend with an offense that is very balanced and probably will score 30-35 points against you.

Also, Larry Hill makes the best half time adjustments of any coach in the state. What works in the first half, won't work in the second. The kids may not be stars, but they are coachable and they work as a team.

VERY VERY true. Hills halftime adjustments are almost as indepth as during the week. Just crammed into 15 minutes or so

I think speed on the line will kill Southwest. SV D-line is small but very quick and likes to live in the backfield. SW when i saw them seemed very slow up front. I would love to see a team like SW and Coach Elliot get to the Regional Finals but I think the buck stops Friday at the Dome.

SV's run defense is great. Line will occupy OL allowing LB's to make plays. SV watch out for fake punt unless they run it like they did last year, then it will be another quick TD for the Rangers. SW may get the average that SV is allowing in playoffs, but SV will score at least 4 TD's.

Agreed, I've watched SV play for the past 4 years. Their losses weren't from lack of effort or getting out coached.
Congrats to Southwest for getting this far. I think SV takes this one.

believe me i know it is a big task, but alot of teams that were supposed to be here still are not. no one gave sw a chance to get this far much less out of bi district. win or lose this team has been the best sw team in its 57 year history. not because they are the most talented or the fastest, but because they have had more guts and heart to do the things no one thought they could. ill admit even though i support them i doubted they would even be district champs. the chips will be stacked against them but i bet they are willing to go all in! stranger things in these playoffs have already happened this year! Now for sv everyone talks about how great they are, but roosevelt was able to move the ball on them inside the twenty 4 times in that game. from the qb haywoods prospective it was bad playcalling in those situations. i feel sv played a little better but you can move the ball on them. the question is will sw move the ball when it counts and score the ball. its gonna come down to execution if they do they will pull it off. Im not trying to put down your team or anything you say but execution is one of SV's srongest parts.It is one of the things Coach Hill stresses the most during practice and one of the things SV is better than anyone at. Its why SV wins all the time against bigger more talented teams.

Man, all I can say is it looks like SV's defense gets better by the series. I am seeing adjustments made by the series. O'Connor had a pretty good game plan laid out, and SV just crushed it, defensively. And, O'Connor had a very good QB, and a VERY FAST RB. Once the second quarter started, SV's D really started clampin down.
Offensively, SV is really starting to come together. Whether or not Reinhart is back remains to be seen. But Mr. Mueke did just fine during his time in the game.
I wish Southwest luck, but the way SV's team is coming together, it will be a tall order!

And speaking of the game, SW has had a remarkable season. They have done better than any SW team before them. But Friday at the dome will be the end of the line. Coach Hill and his staff have the Rangers playing excellent football. SW will not be able to hang. SW has not seen a team even CLOSE to the quality of SV.
Pflugerville had an offense that was 95% run. Going into the playoffs they had thrown 54 passes ALL SEASON LONG! Their RUNNING ATTACK crossed midfield 1 time the ENTIRE GAME! Their only score came on a special teams fumble by SV.
So SV will not be intimidated by your 3 backs. The SV defense doesnt care which one is on the field.......they will all be PUNISHED equally! And with the conditioning of the SV team, your 3 backs will wear out before the SV defense does!

Some of you guys talkin' all this trash about how incapable SW is are only adding fodder to their coaches ability to motivate his squad. NEVER underestimate a hungry, motivated underdog. Rest assured Coach Hill will not. If you were around a couple of years ago, (which I doubt), you would have witnessed a first round exit of a Ranger team that by my assessment was more talented than the team SV has fielded this year at the hands of San Marcos.
This We'll kill SW junk is out of character for the Ranger fans I have grown familiar with...like CKE, bobcat83, and SV61. Notice that they are quietly confident, but not braggarts. Take a page from their book. It is the lack of smack talk and grandstanding that sets this program and it's fans apart from the rest of the pack. It's called Ranger Pride.

There are others on here stating some pretty nasty things, and if you check their screename and location, they do not appear to be tied to SV in any way. TRUST ME, RANGER PRIDE IS ALIVE AND WELL!

there r not to many sv fans on here that r cocky, most of them being players of coach hill. and i know this san marcos game ur talking about 2 years ago...i played in it.....just a shootout game san marcos had not ever beatin us in the 8 years they played us in bi district i beleive? they were playing no fear football, they beat us fair and square, coach hill gambled and went for the win on a 2 pt conversion with 1 min left in the game, we didnt execute plain and simple. i still to this day do not question coach hill going for 2 pts cuz there wasnt 1 person on the sideline or in the stands that night that thought we wouldnt get it...some criticized him for not going to overtime, but he would have been a god had he gotten it, sorry sw u will not have the same luxury san marcos had 2 years ago. sv will play their game and sw will play theirs but sv is just to good of a team for sw to handle. goodluck to both teams but sv i think has this one

So did my brother, he was very sad that game. I think CKE's brother played in that one as well. That was the year after me and CKE graduated i think.

Im not talking smack either. What I'm saying is this SW team came in with alot of preseasbut on hype. Hype that wasn't deserved yet. I wasn't impressed when I saw the summer scrimmages and even less impressed when they lost the first three games. They could have trashed their season from that point on,but they didn't they kept fighting. I'll be the first in line to admit 29 is not the strongest district in the world,but it allowed them to build their confidence. Sv may be the best team Sw has played all season and win or lose, they will problably be the best team they will play but they have a fighters chance. A fighter who is constantly told they can't do it, who is not given even a chance by hometown media! But that's fine we will take it and use it as fuel to feed the fire! They are better than what people think,and Friday all that is left is to prove it!!

I don't know if you know anything about SV football, but playing with all of the qualities that you just mentioned has been a trademark of their teams for the last decade. The reason why they win is because they actually have great coaching and stick to their plan, along with playing with everything they have. You can have all the heart in the world my man but heart doesn't help when a linebacker fits in the wrong gap and the RB takes it 80. I guess what I am trying to say is it doesnt matter how big your heart is if you don't play fundamaentally sound football.

Southwest had very high expectations coming into this year.Then they start out 0-3 losing to Georgetown, Clemens and Steele.All playoff teams-2 of them 4A but good teams nonetheless.Since then they have gone undefeated I beleive. However, including the 2 playoff games I do not believe they have beaten a team that would have finished higher than 6th place in 265A.You cant fault them for their schedule. But it is what it is.
Yes they could win and it would be a huge upset.
But as SV fans let's look at this years team.Who new they would improve this much-honestly?Not many besides myself thought Jacob Brown would turn out to be a pretty darn good QB. We new about Reinhart. Cody Mathews had problems catching the ball the first few games. What about Hilston, Mecke and the o-line. What an improvement.The defense? Wow! And special teams as usual. Will this result in a win this week and on....Yea I think so but will remain cautiously optimistic!

You know, I read a lot of rhetoric last week from the Madison faithful. "We'll crush O'Connor...", "We'll win by eleventy million..." and so on. Some of you guys talkin' all this trash about how incapable SW is are only adding fodder to their coaches ability to motivate his squad. NEVER underestimate a hungry, motivated underdog. Rest assured Coach Hill will not. If you were around a couple of years ago, (which I doubt), you would have witnessed a first round exit of a Ranger team that by my assessment was more talented than the team SV has fielded this year at the hands of San Marcos.
This We'll kill SW junk is out of character for the Ranger fans I have grown familiar with...like CKE, bobcat83, and SV61. Notice that they are quietly confident, but not braggarts. Take a page from their book. It is the lack of smack talk and grandstanding that sets this program and it's fans apart from the rest of the pack. It's called Ranger Pride.
Just for the record the team that lost to San Marcos was literally beat to hell. We had an incredible amount of injuries that included both sides of the ball. The second to last play of the game Trent Rios our top rusher tore his ACL and that is why Coach Hill went for the two point conversion rather than the tie. I agree with the smack talk reduction as I am a firm believer that when you talk smack you get smacked! The one point I will leave you with and that is you cannot compare this SV team to any other as I have never seen a team that plays as a true team as this one so YOUR ASSESSMENT is inaccurate. And yes I have been around for sometime and most likely have been following SV football longer than you and feel qualified to compare.

Im not talking smack either. What I'm saying is this SW team came in with alot of preseasbut on hype. Hype that wasn't deserved yet. I wasn't impressed when I saw the summer scrimmages and even less impressed when they lost the first three games. They could have trashed their season from that point on,but they didn't they kept fighting. I'll be the first in line to admit 29 is not the strongest district in the world,but it allowed them to build their confidence. Sv may be the best team Sw has played all season and win or lose, they will problably be the best team they will play but they have a fighters chance. A fighter who is constantly told they can't do it, who is not given even a chance by hometown media! But that's fine we will take it and use it as fuel to feed the fire! They are better than what people think,and Friday all that is left is to prove it!!
For all the SW fans this should be a great game and you have a right to be proud of your program after all Ty Detmer came from your school and you have a history of a great program. I hope SV wins however that is why they say the game is played.

the 2004 defense was one of the best if not the best defense to go through SV. And the only reason the 2004 squad got anywhere was because we played as a team. if we hadnt we would not have got anywhere in playoffs that year

Rios DID hurt his knee in the playoff game LAST year, against East Central, while scoring a touchdown.
I don't know about an injury to Rios in the SM game.

Shut out clear lake, san benito and a third team but i cant remember the name. Eryk anders had a punt block that he recovered and ran into the endzone twice that year, one against SLC. I dont know about zach being better though, i havent seen this guy but i never really thought zach was that great of a QB

Clear Lake was like 18-10, wasn't it?
Zach was a very good Running back, who happened to play QB. What I mean by that, is he was not afraid to run, and could throw the ball well. I think Jacob has a lot of similarities in these respects.
The defense this year, is very good. However, the 2004 defense had multiple DI college players in it's midst, and only time will tell if this year's D can make that claim.

It seems they both know when to tuck the ball and run...Coach hill did not call very many draw plays with Bryan and David back there but they but he is able do do it with Zach and Jacob

No argument on arm strength but no way as a running QB. Who cares about delivering a hit like I want to see my QB deliver a hit? Brown is much faster no question. As far as calling a QB draw that has everything to do with the line which we dont have near the size we did back then.

He definately has the arm, but timing is crucial, and he was still missing the deep timing patterns last week. We are 13 games into the season, and he still misses 70% of the deep throws. Timing has got to get better. I have seen that as his only weakness as the season has progressed. Dont get me wrong, he is a great runner and scrambler, teriffic desision maker and reader, and his shorter passes are dead on! He is doing a great job leading this offense.

He only converted the one to Hilston, the rest were off. HOWEVER, I dont fault him for the P'ville throws, that wind was NASTY!
And he has overthrown Cody many times also. But he is still an excellent QB.

VS P'Ville - 1 to Mathews down right sideline,1 to Mathews left sideline(where the ball is delebertley underthrown to back shoulder)both against the wind and then to Hilston.
VS O' Connor -one underthrown and/or Cody stopped running-almost made a one handed catch and rolling to his left through Renken's hands.
But they just don't go for the home run ball much as long as the running game is working.

As fans of these teams we should all be thankful for their success thus far! To be one of 16 teams left in D2 is quite a feat.There are alot of very good teams that will not have the opportunity to play in the coming days.As friends,parents,students and alumni we get caught up in our own little world of who's best and why.Only in Texas High School football do you get all of this hype.In the end it's settled on the field and we all live with the result.

Well said. The SW defense came in VERY WELL PREPARED! I gained a TON of respect for them today. But SV did not play like they usually do, or this game might have gotten ugly. We fumbled twice in the red zone? VERY uncharacteristic. Kudos to SW defense, and congrats on a great season!

Believe me I played my share of football and after high school as well. You need to improve your reading skills! 2 years at UTSA was just fine....Got my career going and leave for New Mexico in 2 months.I didn't know not playing football on the next level was an insult as well...man you must have been on the 1939 Texas A&M national championship team huh.Face it dude you have been wrong since you joined this board and look like a tool when trying to put me down.And you need an apostrophe in that's....did you even graduate high school?

Maybe SV wchr played on that Texas School for the Deaf team that A&M beat. He obviously is having trouble hearing what CKE is trying to tell him, so it's a STRONG possibility...:cool:

No reason to post anything after this.....as I am lMAO reading this thread. Bottom line as I said in the beginning and Ill say it again. This SV team plays as a team better than I have seen in a long time! There is NO comparison to the team of 06 this team has better defense better offense. Thats what began this and I will end it with this.

As for the SV teaching staff..... um other than 1 or 2 exceptions, not much there lol. I was bored my entire highschool career at SV. Well hopefully that whole argument is over now. Back to the games at hand...

Los Fresnos and Southwest, Both teams played great and gave it their all but ran into 2 first class programs that any team in Texas would have trouble with.
I might fly back to catch the SV Reagan game lol, it will be that good.

It wasnt the Texas School for the Deaf. It was the Deaf and Dumb Inst in 1904. I had to jerk some Aggie fan back to reality with this stat a while back on another forum. He didnt like me to much. And I am not making this up. I got this off of the Aggie Football website under their history link.

What difference does it make who was better?? Or which player is better...and leave Jacob Brown out of your comments-I can tell you he could care less about these comparisons.CKE does know what he is talking about-speacially when it comes to Trent and most other things concerning SV football.He and his family are still there supporting them and will for years to come.
