I know it's a little early to be thinking about next year - a lot of great football to be played, but who is returning a solid group of SR's - who bowed out early and is going to be stacked next year? Who didn't make the playoffs this year but should next because they return a ton of tallent. Who is going to be the team to watch in 06? Who will be the next sleeper to make a deep run at the title?

O'Connor is going to be stacked next year! Only not with seniors, but with juniors!!!! Next Season they have to replace a grand total of 5 starters! 2 on defense and 3 on Offense! they gave some good teams a run for their money this year, but next year they should be the team to beat in R4 and should be the team to make a deep run into the playoffs. Hopefully to beat a Good team in Region 3 and on to State! But we do have 9 months until the birth of a new season!:D

i know SLC is made up of about 50 seniors and 20 underclassmen. i'd say about 2 are gonna return on offense and prolly about 6 on defense. those are good numbers for the defense, but there are alot of positions that SLC will have to replace

Fossil Ridge returns 7 starters on defense. Too bad I think we will go 4A next year. We should be a team to watch in 4A.

Right, Katy. They return this year's seniors along with 2003, 2000, 1998, 1997, and 1994!:p

Consol ought to return an absolute killer class of current Juniors. We'll take a hit on the O-Line, with only 3 experienced returning (2 jr's and 1 soph).
D-Line loses two great D-Tackles, but the D-Ends remain intact. We lose two starting LB's, but the Jr.'s waiting in the wings are playing great now when they get in. We've also got some JV D-tackles that show excellent quickness and strength. Defense will be fine.
Offensive skill positions will be experienced. We've got a current sophomore QB that took most of the JV snaps that has some potential to be a state blue chipper by the time he graduates. RB's and WR's will be in good shape.
Secondary will be fine as well.
Prognosis is great overall. If a couple of current Soph JV linemen step up, we should be a force to contend with again next year.

garland will be good next year, really good
but just not have any depth lol
our jv SUCKS
on offense we'll be returning 5 or 6 starters (depends on how you view it) with juniors rotating in those other positions all year long
and defense there should be 5 also, 2 ends, a linebacker, and a safety and a corner
watch out for them owls next year

SV's senior class of 06-07 will be what many believe to be the weakest class in Coach Hill's 11 year tenure with SV. Lucky for the Rangers that the Junior class behind them in THE BEST CLASS to come through SV during Hill's tenure. Look for the Rangers to start a lot of juniors next year on both sides of the ball. I hate to say it, but SV could be down next year while the juniors gain experience, but they will be a state smifinals team at least in 2007.

North Shore will be loaded again as usual. The qb position is up in the air right now. But I think Fizer will be the choice, as he'sa the only underclassman with any experience.

I don't see it that way. I don't think next years team will be that good.
The o-line from this year is mostly gone. Riser is gone, Chykie Brown is gone.Cain is gone.
I believe next years team will be lucky to go undefeated in district play.
While we are on this subject(about talent). There is a big difference between speed and skill. just because you run fast doesn't mean you are a real good football player. I don't want to name players in a negative fashion , so I won't give specific examples of Northshore kids with speed, but that are not good at catching the ball or finding the hole to run through.
Ruffshod, we will have 35 returning players, but I don't think we were LOADED this year, much less next year.
I've seen years where I would trade our players for Elsik players staight up. And Elsik has never consistently won. Just goes to show you what good coaching means.
There have been a number of times where Northshore was loaded with talent.
96, 2001, 2002(if we had Justin McNeese healthy, we win state), 2003. Those are the four best I can think of. 2004 and 2005 they did it with willpower(the guys never quit this year) and coaching.

SLC yall just fill in and go on. You have DOdoge at qb next year and newton at RB which are so important in yalls O and the wr will just fill in.
Consol loses 2 huge DT and a play making fs and db. They lose some O line but its not a big deal. COnsol has never had more than 1 returner on there oline for the past 4 years and always fills the gap because of great coaching on the oline. The back field will be deep along with wide outs. The dline and LB have Jr playing now and should be solid. The freshman Class which I coach in 7 on 7 will put minimum 4 players on varsity and is the best freshman class since the graduating class of '03. So it will be another play-off team.

I'm pretty sure our JV won district this year. On the O-line this year, you had Coates, King and Johnson returning this year as Seniors. Hernandez (jr) and Fitzpatrick (so) have both taken turns starting this year. Those two ought to be able to handle the Guard spots next year. Hernandez can play Center as well. Hollis (jr) will step up at either Tackle or Center. There's a couple of good JV oline guys that will need to step up this off season.
There are two D-Tackles off JV that will step up next year, as well as Cashion (Sr next year, strong as an ox and fast). Barnes (sr. next year) is a load and a half. He can clog up the middle.
I'm very interested in this freshman class you talk about. I"ve not seen too many of their games. We've got way more Jr's on Varsity this year than Seniors and only one Soph. High hopes for next year for sure, but hey.... this year ain't over! :)

True. They lose some great players. But as in the past the program keeps churning them out. WE've still got some good backs coming back. And the defense was not just about Chykie. The d-line concerns me more than the o-line. They were suspect all year. Are you going to SA this weekend?

 Whoa! If Fossil Ridge goes 4A then half that district would go as well. SLC, DR, Grapevine, etc..
Just what kind of 5A attendance cut off are we looking at this time around?

Jordon1804,
Like AMCDad, I didn't follow the freshman class closely this year. I didn't realize the Consol Freshman class numbers were better than the current junior class:
The current Consol juniors (that did not play varsity last year as sophs) have only lost 1 district game since 7th grade...the 21-14 loss to Cove this year. Both the "A" and "B" teams were undefeated in district during their Freshman and JV years...26-0-1 overall at the high school subvarsity level. Odd number because Waco only fielded an "A" team during their Freshman year.
When the junior class was in junior high (College Station has two junior highs), they were combined 36-0-0 (not counting their game against each other) during their 7th and 8th grade years.
If the freshman class is better than the current junior class given Consol's 2005 JV team won District 13-5A...our future is very bright.

the new hs won't effect them anyway
Well, that answers my question. Now I have another one.
What is the trigger school districts use to determine whether to build a new high school?
In some areas the answer is obvious. THWS is a perfect example they had over 5000 kids at that school.
But, why would a school district build a new high school with an average attendance of less than 3000?

Indeed the University of North Shore as some like to call us seems to always fill its spot with new talent. Does this mean they are always better than those who filled the spot before them of couse not. Though I would venture to say that most who were second string this year could have very easily been starters for a lot of teams. We may not always produce a large crop of blue chippers or big time D1 talent. However we always seem to produce talent.

some school districts(frisco for one) have made a conscious decision thru elections and whatnot, to keep their schools enrollments at some limited number. they expect to have 7 4a schools at grow out. others fill up the building and when the leaks won't fit in the requisite trailer park next door, they finally bite the bullet and build another.

I am going to go if my buddy Malcomb wants to go.
The damn gas is so expensive I might have to finance the trip with a loan.
Might stay home and watch Texas with my nephew.
I can't believe Cy Fair almost beat Westfield. I bet Westfield comes out foaming at the mouth this week.

Ok. I did not realize some districts prefer to keep their schools a certain size. I guess if the local tax payers have no problems with perpetually high tax rates due to bonds. More power to em.
As I said before, Conroe ISD really had no choice regarding The Woodlands. There was literally no more room to put portable buildings on campus.

I do not like to look at JV records to be honest. The class of '03 never won more than 5 games from 7th grade to jv, but had the deepest run in 5a history till this year. I mean thats awesome records and great for depht but class of '04 went 9-1 JV but only went one round deep in play-offs. Our team chemistry was better in '04 than '03 but we were not near as talented as '03 my sr year, granted osme of our best players had grade problems. The freshman's record was not sexy but improved every week and had some key key key injurys, but have some of the best freshmen athletes I have ever seen. I love hearing the JV records but I dont always believe in JV records because other teams in our distric move players up quicker and fast than consol. COnsol likes to keep classes together. So that is why I tend to look at indivual talent and not group JV record.

SLC graduates 54 kids, next year will be coach Dodge's biggest challenge since comeing to Southlake.
Return 3 on D - MLB, DT, CB - 4 on O - QB (Dodge's son,) RB - (Nate Newton's son), OT and 1 Receiver. There are several Juniors that rotate in and get playing time but above are the only true starters coming back.
