don't know a whole lot about Garland, what they run, or who they've played but they do have a 11-1 recprd and you have to respect that. however with the level that SP is playing at right now especially there defense i have to ginve the nod to SP

I don't want to start another stats war but regular season point/points allowed are:

SP 36.4/13.4
Garland 28.8/16.8

Of course TW had the better stats against SP so the stats may be pretty much worthless.

Leander has played Garland in the past and got beat. To this day my six year old daughter than four dreads the Owls. lol

I think SP can definitely get the win by playing the way they played against TWHS.

I am very impressed by the Tigers this year.

You guys just do what you've been doing.

Best of luck to both teams.

Ewe, the respected Leander has been beat by Garland? That's not good news. But I agree, if this SPHS team can keep it up, especially the defense, we will go far.

I'll throw this out there just to see where it lands, I think our backup QB would do a better job.

Seen both of these teams this year. SP will dominate this game. I'd feel real comfortable penciling in SP for the semi's.

Oh, your buddies scouted us? Well, I apologize then. I didn't know you had the inside scoop from your buddies. I'll pass the word along to the team that they can just stay home next weekend. No use in wasting our time since you and your buddies already know who's going to win. Thanks for saving me a trip to Waco!

I, for one, am no way marking this a win for Stony Point. I was just saying that because the only people that had posted on this thread when I posted were Stony Point fans or people that think Stony Point was going to win.

Garland has the same record as Stony Point and you have to respect that.

This Garland team does not have the talent that they have had in the past. They are hard nosed and hang around and scrap and claw and figure out ways to get the job done. Trust me when I say that many of us are shocked that we are in the third round - in fact, the only people who aren't are the players, who believe in each other and pick each other up in a way that is a joy to behold.

Garland will pound and fight and try to figure out a way to win. We are the underdogs this week, no doubt.

But we'll be there, in force...

Thanks and sorry about the loss. I was hoping to play yal for State. Last night was one hell of a game... I just hope we dont get too bigheaded and lose focus.

This game is looking to be a blowout but im not counting Garland out, just because we are in the playoffs and STP was in exacty the same situation at the beginning of the year against Westwood. I think it will be closer than most people think.

Where is Round rock, and what is a "stoney point"?
Looked at the record and yall have done well for a new school. Congrats on the second year in the playoffs.
Looks like SPs opponents had a 51-51 record on the year, and SP played four teams with a 6 win season or better.
Garland is up here in the Dallas area. We play some high school football up here too. Garland has played six teams with six wins or more. Our opponents have a 60-46 WL record. Five teams Garland has played went to the 2nd round and two are going to the 3rd round. Garlands one loss was to Naaman, who lost to Cove in the second round in a close game. That game with Naaman went down to the wire and Garland chose to go for two and the win at the end of the game, the pass was tipped and Garland lost by one point.
I think we can find Waco, and then maybe we can get directions to get to that stadium. I think SP has already played a game in Waco this year, so yall know the way.
I Know our team will show up in time for the game. So we will just have to see what happens.
Our coach has said this: There are no Turkeys left after Thanksgiving;)

For grayowl60, Round Rock is around 25 miles North of Austin, between Pflugerville and Georgetown. On the South border of Williamson/Travis counties. I35 passes right thru the middle of RR with Round Rock HS on the West side and Stony (no "e") Point on the East. SPHS was estabilshed in 1999. RR is also home to the Express baseball team, AAA affiliates to the Houston Astros.

I feel our defense will keep up their dominating good work for games to come. Our offense needs some tweaking and I also feel that big # 17 also needs more P.T.... but as for replacing our starting QB, that WILL NOT happen...

They scouted the Richardson Berkner game, and were thoroughly unimpressed. Based on their info, I can't see Garland scoring enough points to keep with SP. SP put up 21 points on one of the best defenses in the state(TW), so I can only think they'll put up 30+ against Garland. And I can't see Garland putting up enough points to keep it a game. Then yes, I have seen "you" play. I was at the game Friday night and have seen a lot of film of previous games. You guys have a great D, and a potent offense. You're coach allows your QB to make a lot of key decisions and trusts him to make the right reads, which he does very well. I haven't seen Dallas Skyline yet, but based on who I have seen or have scouting info on, I would think SP should be in the semi's facing a very tough opponent in Trinity, Permian, or Allen. Then, things could be different.

My point is how ridiculous it is that the guy with the football guru buddies "can only think they'll put up 30+" on Garland. That's why I quoted his post in my reply. I didn't say anything about SP's defense. I know they're good and I'm sure it will be tough to score against them.

I've seen SP play, and I can't see Garland keeping SP to less than 30 pts. I haven't seen Garland in person, but my "buddies" have, and were unimpressed with their offense. Based on that, I just can't see Garland scoring enough to win. I was thoroughly impressed with Stoney Point on Friday. Easily the best team TW saw all season.

Interesting news here in DFW. I came in to see the Permian/Allen game and was reading the Dallas Morning News this afternoon. There's a section on the high school playoffs in the back of the sports page and it has predictions from the DMN staff. They have predicted a 21-13 final, in favor of GARLAND. Have these morons even seen Stoney Point play? If they think Garland can hold Stoney Point to 13, they're nuts. And as much trouble as Garland has scoring, it'll be suprising if they can score 21, regardless of what Stoney Point scores.
Dallas is so full of "homers".;)

I got crucified by some of you Garland honks for my predictions, and using scouting info on you to base my prediction on. Guess me and my "guru" buddies were on top of this one......................;) Don't feel bad. SP is legit. I went to the Permian/Allen game yesterday, and I would love to see Allen play SP. That would be a hell of a game.

There may be a stat for how many points scored & allowed compared to the number in the drum line and how many times said drum line gave the team a good cadence for motivation as directed by the person in charge of said drum line. I will work on that one :D

Actually I don't mind them, and I certainly look at them, but the game against Woodz generated too much in my humble opinion. It just wore me out. I compared so many stats that week, and read so many other poster's comparisons that I was literally dizzy. I thought the game was gonna be close, I think most everyone did, and then.. yeah, most of us were wrong.

TOTALLY understand needing to do something until game day, heck, that's why I'm here. :)

Now then, whip out the numbers!!

We got about ~200 in the band. How many does Garland got? Huh?!?

That would be Coach Chessher. He was the defensive coordinator at North Shore that helped them to their '03 champeenship. Left that year to take the head coach job at Stony Point and brought a (correct me if I'm wrong) few assistant coaches from NS with him.

Drum line statistics are not going to get it done, dude. Our drum line functions as a fully integrated component of a comprehensive audio-visual resource deployment strategy. If y'all can't account for the brown eyed flute players, and the brand new tubas, and the state of the art lip gloss worn by the drill team, y'all may as well just stay on the bus. :D

If y'all can't account for the brown eyed flute players, and the brand new tubas, and the state of the art lip gloss worn by the drill team, y'all may as well just stay on the bus.

Lets get this out of the way now. It's Stony Point not Stoney Point. Snd it's just like tons of other schools. It doesn't have a meaning it's just a name. Not every school name has to be an object.

Stony Point has a great D. I'm just worried about STP's Offense. They struggled against The Woodlands. They only scored once on four possesion in the first half. The only way STP won that game was because of their Defense. I don't know if they can play that way again on Offense and expect to win. They need to get it going to be sure of a win.

Good Luck Tigers.

Agreed. But ya gotta take into account the Woodz D, no slouches, and I'm sure they had quite an impact on our game plan. I was questioning the play calling throughout most of the game, wondering why were weren't staying with our bread and butter run style with Glasco and McKissic/Williams, but again, maybe the coaches saw something in the D that I didn't. (Highly likely) Call me Ray Charles.

That said, still waiting for Coah Chessher to flip to those playbook pages that he used against G-town. Granted we were down by ten, and that's probably the main reason, but wow. Potent, efficient, balanced attack. Never seen it before, ain't seen it since.

Congrats to HP on a tough win over that powerfull Kimball team. It would have been worth the price of a ticket to to see you high rollers go through the security at Sprague:eek::D
Sorry SP folks. this is a little Highland Park punk that likes to flame threads. HP is another of those over hyped Metoplex programs that beat thier chest and put down other programs. HP has one state championship in 50 years (4A), they cant close the deal. Garland has three titles in the highest classification, in the last 50 years. HP WILL NOT schedule top 5As.

You Know in the Tyler Lee game I actually thought your qb played a good game. Actually he kinda is a reflection of the team. After the first half I told my buddies "you know this 7-0 lead may be enough to win this game, if Lee has no tunovers they may not score". But you know what, yea he makes some bad throws and misses recievers badly but then all of a sudden he makes a very timely play and before you know it Garland is in the game and dang if they don't find a way to win.

You don't get to 11-1 by sucking and I don't think any Stony Point fan posting here does not respect Garland and their history. Granted, there are a few posters that are arrogant and say Stony Point will destroy any team they play, but that's part of being a fan. Fan is short for fanatic.

I don't see the big miss match here. True RR Stony Point does have a standout running back. But then again we shutdown an Oklahoma commit pretty well this season. Besides that both teams look the same to me. I mean if experience means anything the edge would have to goto Garland. Most of our seniors are trying to get back to the State Semi-Finals like they did back in 07'. Plus I don't understand how the RR Stony Point fans are so crazy about their offense. We could score 41 points on a (3-6) playoff team too! Looking forward to a great game!

Tradition:
Garland has been to the third round three of the last four years
Garland has played in 22 playoff games in the last ten years
Garland has won four state championships
Garland played in the semi finals in 06, lost to the state champions after being stopped on the one foot line with less than 15 seconds left.
Garland has been in the POs 14 of the 16 years.
This year Garland is 11-1. Nine of the teams Garland has played went to the playoffs. Five of those teams went to the second roand, two are still playing.

This is not a gloat post, its just so some of you people might know a little bit about us. This team was not expected to go this far, its a pleasant surprise. Win or lose its been a great run and great to watch....WE WILL WIN

Our offense could be better, but our defense is improving........I guess that's why they play the games instead of just saving us our gas and awarding you the game on rhetoric and heresay and the opinions of that MOJO GUY's "buddies".....;)

yeah but we played one of the best defenses and offenses. I don't give one crap about how good the teams you guys played were nor ours. I also don't care how many points you've given up in playoffs, doesn't matter if you can't do the same thing in this game. Same with stony point

No one, NO ONE, knows what is going to happen on Saturday, and the only ones that get to have a contributing factor are the kids playing the game on the field and the coaches that teach them.

*snicker* oh snap.. one of us is gonna be doing this next week.. :(

Well, we thought we would be lucky to get in the playoffs at all before the season started....then we thought we would be lucky to win round 1.....now we're just happy to get to take another road trip......these boys have already taken us farther than we thought possible....we're just thankful for this week and hopeful for another.

BTW, most of us old Owls agree that this might just be the least talented, especially depth-wise, of any team since we rose to glory again in the 1992 season. This bunch just doesn't know how to die....they just keep on fighting.

Way too many of Garland's games this year were games where we fell behind and trailed at the half and somehow came from behind to win....our old hearts have lost a few years of life this season....

After we came back to beat Duncanville and Lake Highlands, I started calling them "The Cardiac Owls"......we have almost zero hope of winning state, but the ride this year has been more than worth it.

Can someone tell me how people say that Garland isn't that good when they've only lost one game this year?

In my worthless opinion, it's due to a few reasons:

1. It starts with the end of the 2006 season. That team was full of talented seniors and came within one foot of winning a state championship. When they left, the cupboard looked a little bare.

2. In '07, the talented seniors were gone and the new seniors didn't step up to lead. Some me-first guys in that group really dragged the rest down with them. They wound up with a 3-7 record to show for it after being ranked preseason #3 in the state.

3. Also a factor last year was the schizophrenic offense. Couldn't decide if they wanted to be a Wing-T team or a spread team. Tried to do both and, well, you see what happened. Plus, the defense was just plain bad. Blame that on players and coaching equally.

All those things came to mean that people thought Garland was down and didn't give the team much respect this year. They've had to fight all year long against that perception that they're still the 2007 team and even if they win, the opposition must not have been very good. This year, the seniors (and juniors) who need to lead are leading. These boys didn't like the way everyone was talking about them (or not talking about them) coming into this season. The offense has gone completely spread. They've decided what they want to do and are sticking to it. This may not be the most talented group to walk through the fieldhouse doors, but you can't measure the fight these boys have in them. If you go through the roster, there's only a handful of players who had ANY playoff experience before this postseason started. This new group of Owls have gotten a taste of playoff football and it looks like they like it pretty well. Hopefully the ride won't come to an end in Waco this week, but even if it does, it looks to me like the Owls have shown that last year was an abberation rather than a sign of things to come.

WE WILL WIN!

Can someone tell me how people say that Garland isn't that good when they've only lost one game this year?

Ollie has it pretty much pegged. It mostly stems from our disappointing 2007 season and a perception of underperforming this year.

I'll make this as short as possible.

Kimball was supposed to be an easy win....we won 37-6 in an uneven victory and others, including Tyler Lee beat them much worse.....so in the press, we suck.

Duncanville was supposed to be good, but we won late on a backyard play, 23-20, and were a lucky 2-0, by the press and perception.

Lake Highlands was not as respected at that point as they are now. They turned the ball over 4 times in the first half and still had a lead. We came back and took the lead, but they fumbled a snap on a late short field goal and we won 40-38.......worst 3-0 team in the state...no respect in the polls.

Abilene Cooper comes to town fresh off a close loss to highly ranked Abilene. They lead 14-3 at the half and dominated. We came back and ran away with the 2nd half.......we were lucky, per the press.

South Garland was thought to be tough going into the season, but underperformed with a new offense and head coach. The QB got injured and they went back to the spread in the 2nd half of the game before us. They gave us a real battle and fumbled a field goal snap late and we get a 31-28 win against a percieved weak team......they got real competitive for a few weeks until that QB got hurt and were never the same, they were their best when they played us, but the details got lost in the press.

Lakeview and Sachse were unwhelming 23-6 and 27-7 victories over teams that were getting beat much worse by other teams.

Rowlett was another big come from behind 17-10 win over a team that had beaten Naaman.....the win was percieved as weak by the press who had already pigeon-holed us as weak.

North Garland should have never been as close to us as they were in an uninspired 37-21 win....ask anybody who votes in the polls.

Naaman was ahead of us by 21 and we came back and to 28-27 and went for 2 points late and failed....proof to all that we were as weak as percieved and our district was weak too.

Berkner, the first playoff game, was suppoosed to win because of their defense....it was 3-3 going into the 4th quarter, but we got a big drive early in the 4th and they made key turnovers deep in their territory late, and we cruised to a 27-3 victory that was MUCH harder that the score belies...so we still suck to people here and the press.

Tyler Lee had the defense to stop us....ask anybody here. They pretty much did and had the lead at the half 7-0, but we found our footing again and won 13-10 late in a great game.....but we still suck in the press and with many here.

Look, we know this team is not respected and for good reason.....we really don't have much of a chance to win it all, and we know it. Our 11-1 record is just not respected by the local press and many on this site because they see our lack of potential to win the title. But the ignoring of this bunch's 11-1 season does the boys an injustice because they are one of the big success stories of the year, in this state, and our coach should be considered for coach of the year for the job he's done with this group....his job with this group far exceedes the job he did with the 2006 semi-finalist team.

That's just how I see it.

And yall have two 4A teams yall played this year....hmmm. and yalls last "real" opponent was Garland Naaman Forest which yall lost to by a point! District 10 is weak. Stony Point, on the other hand, coming from 16-5A, one of the toughest districts in the state...and coming out district champs and 11-1! And there only loss was to a 4A team. but going undefeated in one of the hardst districts in the state....Ya i think ill take my chances with Stony Point. Good Luck Garland...youll need it

Ok this is just an outsider who happens to be a Tyler Lee fan, who in my opinon did not lose to Garland but got beat by Garland if that makes any sence.

Garland has none of the big time stars, they simply play vey well on defense and do what they need to do AS A TEAM --- WITH LOT OF HEART. Because of turover problems early in the year (mainly Abilene) Tyler Lee's game plan was to run the ball, control the clock and rely on an outstanding defense to win the game. It almost worked but ya know what on offense Garland did what they needed to do AS A TEAM --- WITH ALOT OF HEART.

Both 4-A teams that you keep looking down your nose at were still playing last week, and one is still playing this week. That team, by the was, was 5-A until February. Lake Highlands, whom we beat, is still playing. Naaman lost a close game to Copperas Cove - a game they easily could have won.

I wont waste time breaking down the Stony Point record because, unlike you, I happen to respect the team we are about to play. I'm sure the SP fans are thrilled to have you on here talking down about Garland.

But I guess you are right. We don't belong here. I'm sure we'll prove how unworthy we are on Saturday. DFW football, as a whole, is quite inferior to Centex ball over the past 10 years or so. Just look at all the state titles won by Centex... oh... nevermind.

Enjoy your state ring. Perhaps you will bump into a few Garland alums on Saturday who would be happy to show you what you get when you actually win that last game...
