I congratulate Cove for making it to the fourth round of the playoffs. I look forward to the game Friday night. It should be a good matchup.

From what I understand Lufkin and Cove run similar offenses and both score quite a few points. How do the defenses match up?

Sorry for the duplication. I didn't see the Lufkin vs. Cove already started.

Looked on the Cove website. They do score a lot of points. Beat Judson by 1, beat Harker Heights by 15. The defense has held opponents to 20 pts. or less, except for allowing, 28, 26, and 21. When it gets to this point it comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes and the kicking game. Unfortunately, Lufkin is penalized more than their opponents, and the kicking game has gone south lately, i.e. missed x-pts., and 20 to 30 yard field goals. Fernandez missed right and left today, last game he was barely getting xpts. inside the rt. upright. Missed a FG to the right as well. Not a good combination going into the next round. If they don't correct these two aspects of the game, it will get harder and harder to overcome these mistakes.

Fernandez has been great all year so try not to judge him by a few games. He is still a major weopon. He was almost perfect before these last 2 games when he missed 2 fg's and 1 extra point. He is human big deal.

Here's the real deal as I see it. First off, I am a Cove Fan True and Blue. I don't miss a game no matter where, what time, or against whoever. The Dawgs have the best team they've ever had. The program has had good teams in recent history but also many disappointments which I call hard lessons learned in playoff experience. They have a very good offense, defense, and coaching staff. They are well disciplined, focused and believe they can go all the way. Thier kicking game is very much improved and special teams do well, especially on kick off returns. That won't be a problem for Lufkin since everything goes out of the end zone. I'm going to miss those exciting plays this Friday. It will be a very good game between two good teams. I know we haven't been this far before, but that's ok, w'ere here now and that's good. So if you feel we are a little cocky with our posts, sorry. We know it will be settled on the field. Some of our fans feel disrespected because in the recent past, 13-5A has been called a "weak district". We play some pretty good football down here, but you be the judge. I am so looking forward to meeting the Panther Nation again, as I did attend the HH game. Who do I choose to win? Who do you think? Good Luck, See Ya soon!!!!!!!!!!! Go Mighty Dawgs

I agree, he has been exceptional, but it does create concern for him to be having a slump during the playoffs. I think he is still one of the best in the state and hopefully will get his confidence back.

poolangel I appreciate your candor. Cove is to be applauded for their efforts and success this year. I too am looking forward to the matchup Friday. I will be there as well. I am not going to predict anymore scores or victories for Lufkin. All I can say is that when we play up to our potential we are very difficult to beat, but then again I would imagine that could be said about every team at this stage of the playoffs.

As far as feeling disrespected...let your play earn you the respect you deserve. Lufkin didn't become a top five program overnight, and neither will cove. In Lufkin we felt like we didn't get much respect in our district the past two years either. So...we let our playing talk for us and we haven't lost a district game in two years.

Good luck on Friday. I know it will be a great game.

Wow.....a post from a Cove fan that seems interwoven with some intelligence, and no trash talk. Thank you.

I have seen both teams play this year and I guarantee you that Cove will be the best team we have played all year. No matter what the homers from both sides say, I see this one as as too close to call.

Now what's funny about your post is that when someone does make a post without BS or trash talk. Someone "YOU" comes right back with sarcasm. You wonder why it keeps going.

Hey Panthers, I do have one question. I missed the 2nd half of your game today because of a meeting. What happened to you? No Scores? Does that concern you or did you just want it that way? Would someone who has some good insight respond. I'm curious. Go Dawgs

I was at the game. What happened is South Garland made some adjustments on defense and Outlaw said at halftime he was going to try to eat up the clock in the second half. The second half was a defensive show for both sides.

I am not concerned about our offense in the second half. I don't believe we were seriously trying to score any more points. We kept the ball on the ground and ate up the clock. We also held South Garland to a net zero yards rushing on the day. The only thing I am concerned about is our kicker is in a slump right now.

Actually pretty similar to the COVE-Garland game. Jumped out early and then pretty much coast and play good D. Kicking may be real important to both teams next week. Again should be a good game.

Counting the hours til kickoff. Hope everyone that wants to attend can attend adn get there safely.

Both districts need to get the fan support there to make noise and cheer on your district reps.

Good luck and may the best team win.
