Say what you want about me, but I for one hope A&M can return to some form of consistent success in the coming years. This rivalry game should mean more than it has in recent years.
And since I fail to see the logic in a 10-1 probable BCS team talking :Censor: to a 4-7 cellar-dweller (no offense), I would instead remember some of the better moments from this series...

While this game isn't, never has been and never will be Texas' biggest rivalry game, the lead up to this year (and even the previous couple of years with surprising Aggie wins) has been pathetic. This board was epic during the lead up to the '04 game. A&M had a pretty good team, but they lost that squeaker to Baylor and we were brutal. Texas was aiming for it's first BCS bowl and the Aggie fans were in full force. How wide HUM and myself made it past that game without getting banned is beyond me (wide probably did get banned but I digress). I can only assume KT was secretly having as much fun as we were. The greatness that was the '04 game can be summed up in one picture...

It is a shame that A & M is so bad this year.:( I usually look forward to a competitive game but that will not be the case. The kids that have showed up on here talking all the smack are pathetic. Maybe next year the Ags will present more of a challenge to UT.

I think claims that aTm is not considered by Horns as their biggest rival is a little off, with a sprinkling of denial, and a somewhat backhanded shot at aTm.
In 18 mths I'm hoping to have kids who attend(ed) both schools. So no more dog in that fight. Just stating facts though.

I have a different perspective than most sips on this board. I grew up, for the most part in the 80's, graduating HS in '89. Texas was terrible and there were tons of t-shirt a$m fans running around DFW along with a healthy amount of Arkansas and ou.
Getting to Austin in '90, not having grown up a sip, I was introduced pretty quick. Both a$m/ou were at the top of the college football heap at that time. We had success against ou for some reason, but basically got our a$%e$ kicked by a$m for the four years I was there except the first year.
That is the reason, I think I hate a$m moreso than many of the younger sips out there. They haven't, save the last two years, really had any hard times against them. When we lost the last two years, it was not to a good a$m team, it was to a team in shambles and I think that is a different situation from back in the late 80's early 90's.

Dont get to down about it... It hasnt mattered much the last 2 years. I believe the University will crush A&M this year, but then again I thought that the past 2 years also.

Just doesn't feel that way. When I started getting interested in football and really watching college football A&M wasn't very good and they haven't been very good the past 8 years or so. Around campus the A&M game draws more excitement than others but it is nothing like the Oklahoma game... not even close. The fans will stay until the game is over even if we are obliterating A&M which is pretty respectable consider we usually start piling out with a 4 touchdown lead in the 4th but it just doesn't feel like a big time "rivalry" even though I know it is. The fact that Texas has lost the past two years is bringing out a lot more excitement than normal but that could also be because we are ranked so high. Either way a lot of fans are stoked to play A&M whereas last year a lot of people were just "meh."

It's not off at all and it's certainly not any kind of insult. Mobilhoma is, was and will always be Texas biggest rival and on that topic there is no debate. For a good while, Arkiesaws was easily #2 (and even bigger than the dirt burglars a few years). A&M is obviously a heated rivalry and no sane Texas fan will say otherwise, but in every age group and from every walk of life I have found one thing to be true and that is that Mobilhoma and Arkiesaws (to a lesser extent) boils the blood of Texas fans and bring out more passionate feelings than any other rival and it's not even close. Most Texas fans wont admit it, but most have a certain amount of quiet respect for A&M. Those same fans would send God a thank you note if the states of Oklahoma and Arkansas were spontaneously consumed by fire.

Man, watching the LHB's halftime performance video, and the report CBS did on the collapse reminded me of when that happened. I was a little young to really understand how serious that was, but dang...I'm sitting here in the library getting a little teary eyed watching those two videos...Anyways, yeah, as much as i heckle Aggy, I have to admit, I did respect their facilities when I went to their football camp. I guess it's just a mutual respect for one another, and I really want to see the day, like you jtk, when this game has large relevance beyond the rivalry.

I remember that game so vividly. I was a junior in high school. I never root against Texas, but that was the one Texas loss that did not bother me in the least. Hard to get upset about losing a game within the context of that week and month.

Amen...I was a little bit younger than that, and kept cheering for UT to win, but I remember my dad stopping me and saying, "Today, we're all cheering for the Aggies." Other times I felt like this was after 9/11 when the Yankees were in the WS, and the first game after the Va. Tech shootings

for the last 3 years around this time i go up to the bonfire memorial and it is still hard to not get a little teary eyed... I'll never forget watching the news with my mom right after the bonfire collapsed, watching the effort of people trying to find people still alive and how the university came together as one at the drop of a hat. Its just one of those moments that you'll always remember what you were doing when you heard the news
