Who do you think will win and why?
I think Tech's offense will be persistant in applying pressure to the Okies. yes, you read it right. Tech will play the ball-control game and keep the OU offense off of the field. I look for 28-30 first downs again from this team. there are too many weapons to shut down all of them. Just like the UT game, it will come down to how many Sooners it takes to get pressure on Harrell. If it's 4 or less, Tech is in trouble. If it takes a DB or LB in addition to the DL, then OU is in for a long evening. Tech's ability to run will also dictate how the Sooners can blitz and the depth of the secondary from the LOS.
I think OU's offense is equally lethal with the most capable WR corps we have faced. This will not only be a test of Tech's secondary, but an absolute neccessity for the DL to pressure Bradford. Just like OU's defense, the fewer number of players it requires to get Bradford pressured, the better it is for Tech. OU also uses their running game to test the safeties.
I still think Tech wants this game the most.

That is homerian logic at its finest. :notworthy
OU is playing in front of their home crowd with plenty on the line as far as the BCS is concerned. You can't possibly make that kind of claim.
What OU can't do is fart around with their offensive execution. If Sam Bradford has OU's offense clicking, the Sooners will win this game in my opinion. Bradford's been on fire all year. I don't see a blow out either way.
Tech will get their yards and points, so the big key for OU will be making sure they move the ball and score all game long. They've scored at least 35 points in every game they've played this year, so they do have the ability to sustain offense for four quarters.
If OU is off or Tech can force a few stops, then they will gain the upper hand.
Prediction:
OU 42
Tech 35

I see tech getting a big head going into this game. They know whats at stake and that this game isnt going to be easy. Oklahoma is a 6.5 point favorite in this game but anything can happen. This will be an offensive game i believe....my predictions
49-42 Oklahoma wins

Tech is better in the trenches. Tech's OL will neutralize the OU D and control the clock and ball. The OU O-line will get some passing yards, but won't do that great in the running game. OU is living off of turnovers and they just won't get that many off of Tech. Tech will be able to run and keep the chains moving and OU's lack of defensive depth is going to show.
OU is used to punching teams in the mouth and getting Mike Tyson 1st Round Knockouts. They're not conditioned to play 60 hard minutes and it will show in this game. I agree with the Texas fan that said they would lose the first Quarter to OU 8 times out of 10, but they would've won the 4th 10 times out of 10 and a 5th quarter would get them 4 more TD's. I don't think Tech against OU will be any different than the onslaught UT had on OU late in the game except I think Tech will start it earlier.
OU might get the lead early, but they'll fade in the 2nd half. They better have about a 17 point lead at halftime because it's going to be "Katie bar the door after that." I don't think they have a lead like that early and I don't think they have it in them to push through at the end.
We already know Stoops is scared because he's been calling out the fans all week for not making enough noise at the games. He's trying to get every bit of a home field advantage as he can.

Thats the beauty of playing at home. and that doesnt mean he is scared..
The wildcard in this game is the off week. Both teams were playing at a very high level going into the bye week. Who knows who will be able to continue playing at that level, if either of them are able to. There is no guarantee that Tech or ou will be playing at that same level on Saturday.

Which D steps up?
Fact is - OU's D has been mediocre all year long. Tech's has become a solid unit. Their second half against Texas was troubling for a Tech fan, but that was Texas - the 800 lb. gorilla to Tech.
I think Tech wins a squeeker. They'll get a few stops and OU won't.

What's interesting about watching Tech this year is that they are so far deying the fate that's bitten many a passing offense. It is a very hard offense to execute well consistently due to the importance of tempo/rhythm. There are days when this will be off, and that's when passing teams like Tech have traditionally struggled to stay afloat.
It is like watching a three point shooting team in basketball. When they are on, it is difficult for anyone to stop. However, on the days when those shots aren't falling, do they have what it takes to play a true half court game and and generate points inside? I see a similar analogy for any primarily passing spread in football.
Tech has a stronger running game this year than they normally do, but can it carry the team when Harrell and the receivers have an off day? It hasn't happened yet and may not happen all year, and that would be an incredible testament to Mike Leach, his staff and the Tech players.

UT is the only team that Tech fans worry about losing to due to outside influences. UT was the only game that Tech has on the schedule where people wonder "Can we beat these guys?" OU is not that to Tech. Tech fully believes they'll go into Norman and win.

If Tech can win in Norman, then more power to them. They will deserve the reward...hands down.
I think theres alot to be said for home crowds.. Tech had that advantage over us this year.. Lubbuck was loud.. Norman will be the same and that will be huge for OU..
I think OU can score with Tech any day of the week.. Bradford is on fire and they dont even play him most of the 4th qtrs.. I really dont see Tech stopping OU at all, unless they can get pressure on Bradford.
As far as Tech goes they can score as well as OU can, but I just cant see them hanging in with OU score for score.. I think the Tech running game will be key in Norman.. if Tech can get some meaningfull yards on the ground it could pay big dividends.
OU's special teams arent near as good as Tech's either so that will be one area to watch..
With no certainty I'm picking OU in a close one..

Just because they haven't had to play 60 minutes hard doesn't mean they aren't conditioned or capable of doing it. That statement is a tad outrageous especially considering that Tech didn't play very well the second half against Texas. Besides the last drive it was punt, punt, punt, field goal missed, and a field goal made. Didn't exactly light up the scoreboard for a full 4 quarters.

3rd quarter was terrible and almost sent me into a rage...
I noticed a little more consistency in the Okie Lite game...;)
That's what this team has done all season- constant improvement and focus on opportunities.
I don't buy the conditioning deal either, but Tech has better depth on defense than they have had recently in addition to two RBs that can hurt you on any down. The point here is , that while Tech in recent seasons has usually fallen victim to a lack of depth, one of the advantages the Red Raiders have this year is the amount of folks they keep rotating in just constantly coming after the other team. Both teams are going to leave it all out on the field, I have little doubt there.
Both teams have the weapons to win...who can execute more consistently?

It's very personal for those people and for me that lowers any credibility I would give to any of the words said. This game isn't personal for me. I don't like OU, but I'll give them their props. They have a very good team and are one of the nation's best. I just don't think they're good enough to beat Tech. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I think OU is a little soft. I don't think they have the fight in them to win this game. I think of the Sooners as a Texas-caliber talent team with less heart. Saturday will show if my assessment is right or wrong.

As a Texa fan, that is a very nice thing to read written by an opposing fan.
I hate ou, I really don't care much for Tech, but appreciate certain aspects. Hard not to like Leach or appreciate Crabtree, and Ruffin seems like a very great guy.
I said it before and I'll say it again, I think the off week for the two teams is huge. In my opinion, Tech/ou/Fl were playing the best football in the country two weeks ago. Five weeks ago, Texas was. Hard to keep up that level over a long period of time, especially with an interruption.
One team may handle it better, or both, or they both could come out flat. Very tough to tell in my opinion.

I think Pied is dead on here. If the off week results in one team coming out flat and the other team hitting on all cylinders I don't think there will be a chance for the team that came out flat to get it together. OU is playing for ANOTHER shot at a Big XII and NC Title...Tech is playing for SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

You know that would really be important if Tech were primarily a rushing team. Tech's run game is very good with two outstanding backs that average something over 5 yards a carry so it is true the running game is not half bad, they are actually quite good and not only can they run with the ball but they can catch and run with the ball.:D

Baron Batch - 7.2 ypc 667 yards
Shannon Woods - 5.1 ypc 588 yards
DeMarco Murray - 5.5 ypc 804 yards
Chris Brown - 6.1 ypc 782 yards
Slightly more rushing yards for the OU backs since their team...well...runs more.

tech's running game really isn't even comparable to ou's, despite YPC...sorry, when a team throws the ball 177 times a game, the defense is expecting pass...not knocking batch or woods, it just makes running easier for them since they defense usually isn't putting 8 in a box, they're more worried about the 4 wr's that tech has out there.v so are they a nice complement to the passing game? yes, they add more of a dimension there then tech has ever had before. but that's it...

In the functionality of X's and O's Tech has great devices with which they force the defense to choose the depth of their LB's and Safeties. Whether it is a draw, a delay screen to the RB, a dumpoff to the RB in the flat, or a bubble screen to the WR, it still functions as a run when the D is trying to defend it.

You're right. Oklahoma has a much tougher away schedule with 0-10 washington (who is a lot tougher than Nevada right?), 4-7 Baylor (insert Kansas here for tech), 4-7 Kansas State (same), and 4-7 Texas A&M (same). Pointing out only our away schedule is just asking to be exposed.
Oklahoma's whole schedule was a little bit tougher than Techs, and if you compare common oppenents, I think the Sooners did better.
Both played Kansas, (who was ranked 16th before OU beat them), and Nebraska (not even close in comparison, Tech had to go to O.T. to win), lets not even mention the A&M game (Tech only had a 7 pt. lead going into the 4th quarter there, OU put them away in the first quarter). And both teams split with the Horns.
For you to mention that anyone "just asking to exposed" works both ways.
Its a silly arguement that you really cant win.

stats, lies, and damned lies...
You one of those that believes that Tech still runs a hurry-up offense because there's no huddle?

Very tough to tell in my opinion.

they should have taken a lesson from Texas, you either come prepared every game and be ready. Or you take that whipping. Tech really didn't even try, like i said earlier if beating texas gave the idea they're unstoppable this was a reality check.

Only one team was playing big boy football tonight.
Looks like it will be Oklahoma vs. Florida in the ( BS )Championship game. I think the spread offense has about another five years of shelf-life. If you can't run the ball and play good defense, you can't win against the great teams.
I hated the run and shoot when the Oilers ran it,. The spread is a form of that. A running QB helps the spead be more effective, but then you get QB's hurt. I've never been a fan of throwing the ball 40 times a game. Call me an old fart if you must.

I knew it would be very tough for tt to go to Norman and get a "W", but really thought it would be a better game than it was.
Leach and company got smoked from the opening bell. TT didn't even remotely resemble the same team that knock off the horns a few weeks back.
I'm going out on a limb and saying that OU will be better tested next week in Pickensville, and better not leave the door open for OSU, or there shot at taking a pounding from FL in the BCS championship game will be over for sure regardless of what the computers say this Monday.

Your a bleeding A&M fan.. And make one line comments... Much like Mad Fan, that I believe you were capping on for his hideous one liners...
Do you have any substance to bring to the discussion?... Ha.. Didnt think so.

Head to head is fine.. Yall won.. No big deal from me.. UT has no arguement there at all.
I'm telling you that Tech is 3rd tier as a program, because of the beating they took. OU lost with repsect and UT lost with respect, Tech did not.
i don't think you base a programs's "tierness" off of one loss...whatever that means.

no less than you have...
lots of inuendo and smack talk, not much substance at all.

And your right Yankee, you dont.. But that pounding Yall gave Tech has clearly showed me that the Big 12 south is still OU and UT and then Tech. And more importantly, in the silly system we play in, it showed what the voters were waiting on... They expected the result... much more than I ever did.
wasn't aimed towards you...
but all of the elitism comes back today?
UT's swagger is restored by puppy-kicker?
i was just sayin that is might not be the year tceh jumps up to the next level. it's a great year for them, but if they don't make it to a bcs it's pretty much what everyone expected....
but like i said, ou can still lose to okie lite, and texas can choke a game (you better hope they don't since the land thiefs have the tie breaker on yall). but if everything pans out the way it's expected (it never does) then tceh is gonna be left out of the party.
that being said, don't count okie lite out. that would put tceh back into the drivers seat.

"3rd tier" and "3rd place" are two very different meanings for me. i was under the impression that 3rd tier team would be one at the very bottom, at the bottom of the "tier"...oh well, it's not that big of a deal. hats off to tech, they had a good run. hopefully (or in ou's case, not!) they can build off of this.

So when Lonny and others predicted an 11-1 season, you didn't laugh?
I personally thought 10-2 would be great, if we did that well.
we have lost any control over whether we get to go to a BCS game. Nobody's fault except TEch's. in all honesty, if we go 11-1 and play in the Big XII, we will have had a better season than about half of the teams that are awarded BCS berths, IMO.

it's not the record IM (idk about slc) talking about. final rankings in the conference (bowl game apperence in this situation). 11-1 is impressive, but it's not that champ. game or undefeated that tier 1 teams have (i.e fla, usc, texas, land thiefs, lsu). if tceh had already had that season, this loss would have dropped to maybe 4 or 5, not 7.
there's still hope (im rooting against it) that tceh can backdoor into the bcs.

I've never heard anyone discuss these "tiers" except when UT and Aggie fans are deriding Tech, not that you have done this in your posts, but I think you are meaning to say Tech has not had an elite season. If that is true, then how could Texas be regarded as having a better one? Are they still passing around that "quality of loss" bong?

it's elite for tceh, but unless you bring some new years day hardware, you still have a hurdle to overcome.
im talking about the program as a whole, not just this season.

of course one season doesn't make an elite program. You have to start somewhere, right?
as far as New Year's day hardware, we won the GatorBowl on Jan 1, 2008.
Just sayin...:D

does the GatorBowl count as a win? Style points seem to be the topic du jour, so did Tech really win that game or did Virginia count that as a "quality loss" and take home the trophy?;):D
