1. So.. the season starts on the last week of August; the 29th (Kick-off Classic)
2. Regular Season is 14 weeks long and ends on Dec. 5th w/ Conf. Championships.
3. 1 week off for studying and testing. Lets face it.. these guys have been taking these courses for months. Could be doing extra studying throughout the season.
4. Student-athletes come back to start the 5-round playoffs on the 19th.
5. The National Champion is decided on Jan. 15th. (A Friday, btw... not Monday, Tuesday or Sunday!)
6. The NC game doesn't disrupt any NFL playoff games, either.

How stupid. The regular season won't even be worth watching. That is way too much like the NFL and look what has happened to that? No one watches.

Personally, I would just be happy with a system that could match Florida versus Texas and/or USC really. Those 2 matchups are the ones I personally wanna see more than any other.

Why not take more teams from each conference and have a Div. 1-1A and Div. 2-1A so nobody is left out?

Why on earth do you want to move any team up from DII when you have a three peat FCS champion (Appalachian State) and a host of other powers (Montana, Delaware, Youngstown) already playing at a level closer to FBS? That makes no sense at all. It's like bumping a team up from AA ball to the majors and just skipping over the AAA teams.

Well, I would imagine it would make every conference game worht watching and the ooc games even more important to conferences who want to get that extra seed into the tournament. A playoff system is the best thing about the NFL. If anything, shortening the amount of pre-season games in the NFL is the biggest problem on the pro level. And, people don't watch meaningless games between horrid teams like Oakland/Cincinnati, but I promise you a ton of people watch the Patriots play the Colts and/or the Cowboys play the Giants. I also think having many of those college playoff games on Thur, Fri and Sat helps bring more of an audience.

Honestly, that makes sense. I was using GVSU as an example. Moving Applesauce State up would work just fine, for me. Something to think about would be moving up a team with a nice size student base, so that football games are packed with a fan base ($$$). ASU has roughly 15k students, while GVSU has 25k students. Anyhow, I really wouldn't mind the move up for ASU. I actually considered them, first.

Well, I was just using the 2009 (next year) Season as an example. Who the hell knos what will happen?? Florida may lose Tebow, Harvin and Spikes to the NFL and be reloading, thus not a real contender for the Title.

Dude, that's just an example. But, isn't that why we love Texas high school football playoffs?? We want to see the Tyler Lee 3-loss team get their act together, fight through the tournament and win a title, like they did in 2004. I'd love to see a 2-loss Baylor team make it 3 Rounds deep... or even to the big dance. This is why a playoff system will never work... people like the current system as long as THEIR team is playing for a BCS Bowl or NC game. But, if they get shafted with the captaincrunch.com Bowl, they tend to - all of the sudden - love the idea of a playoff tournament.

The size of the school really has little to do with what level they play at. For instance, Notre Dame, Miami, Stanford, and Boston College are all smaller than Grand Valley or Appy State. GVSU would need to test the waters at IAA first. The school opened in the 1960s and didn't even start playing football until the 1970s. It has become a regional university but still retains a lot of the "commuter school" vibe. The classification is all about how much money you have to spend on athletics, and GVSU isn't at all ready for FBS level football.

POs for HS and NFL is fun. NFL works particularly well because of the smaller number of teams. But I personally do not want to see a three loss team crowned national champs. I don't want to see 2005 Texas lose Vince Young in a regional game and the Longhorns get sent packing.

As I said earlier, I just picked a school - any school - as an example. ASU would be just fine. I was tempted to go with them, at first. I'm all for it. Hell, I'll go ahead and switch it.

This is exactly my point, Firebird. People love the NCAA basketball tournament because you get the upsets that people didn't see coming. That's the excitement of a tournament... the unpredictability. People hate the current system when their team gets shafted. They all of the sudden love the idea of a playoff system. (Conveniently, it's usually a tournament of "elite" teams... which is also a bias flaw.)

I like the format but it seems one of the most unlikely to ever happen. If there ever was a tournament it would probably be 8 teams and realigning conferences is extremely doubtful. Not to mention that is an extremely long season of 19 games for the eventual champ.

Texas HSFB plays 15 games for the eventual champ on both the major levels. The NFL plays 19 (1st Rnd Bye) to 20 (Wild Card) games for the eventual champ. And lets not get started on a Tournament of 64 teams in NCAAB (6 rounds deep). Right now, the Big XII, SEC, C-USA and MAC play Conference games. If OU or Tex or Tech or Ala or Fla were to win the BCS NC, they would have played 14 games. I think the incentive would be the excitement of a playoff tourney and the chance to allow a 2006 Boise State team the opportunity to see if they could've upset anymore big boys. Plus, if need be, eliminate an extra regular season game, giving you a schedule of 10 or 11. That would make each game much more important.

Who can honestly say they wouldn't be intrigued to watch this exact tournament, if it were to happen?? If the only options were to have a 32-team tournament like this or have a group of voters continue to vote Ohio State to the BCS NC game over and over... what would you guys choose?? I just say... lets take the voting out of the scenario. You either have 2 seeds or 3 seeds. Every single game is meaningful, and week brings make-or-break headlining games. Taking the Top 8 teams only begs more questioning by those who would be left out, due to the same criteria being used for ranking teams in the BCS, today.

Think about it... a playoff tourney like this essentially takes the polls out of the mix. It would be Texas HSFB on the collegiate level. I'd love the excitement! It'd be better than watching 30 f'n Bowls, of which about 22 or 23 are absolutely useless and boring!

It's funny... but the current "bowl" system reminds me of the current epidemic of pandering pre-teens with useless awards. Remember "Field Day"?? Today, everyone receives a ribbon, medal or trophy... so no ones' feelings get hurt! LMAO!
