Should be a great game!! I have to go with Lufkin by 14. They have been there and know what it is all about. I believe it will be a great learning/growing experience for Cove.

And the following week......

SLC/Lufkin....Round 3!! Would not miss it for the world!!

you got to have this poll.

i dont think that it would be a upset if cove wins the game. they are 13-0 and have a senior team and can play football. the surprise of this game would be if either team just shuts out the other and beats them like SLC did abaline that would be a surprise.

this one is going to be a good game. good matchups across the board. cant wait for this one. going to be fun.

outlaw is talking to the cove people. Waco is nice but that stadium will be to small for these 2 teams. maybe we can play at floyd case. but not waco isd were you going to put all the fans. talk about tons of people just coming to the game to see the matchup i expect atleast 20,000 for this game.

this game will be college scouts all over the place.

Lufkin will bring there A game. hey harker played a good game i see over your schedule that you onlybeat waco 29-21 what happned they did not even make the playoffs. you can say lots of things about who we have played who yall have played the simple thing is this is going to be a great game and next Friday at Flyod case the panthers will be ready and i am sure that cove will to.

keys to Victory for both teams.

1. win the turnover battle
2. special teams FG,Punts,kick returns
3. flag, flags (we lufkin have to cut back on that)
4. dont get down if a team makes a big play.
5. play 4 hard good qrts.
6. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS HIGHSCHOOL. this is the greatest time in your life go out and have fun. the team that is having Fun and enjoying it will win. football is a fun game and brings people together and city's it is something to be thankful for. go out and have fun and play hard.

I've been looking forward to this match-up since the middle of October. Should be a great game. Heard a lot about the Panthers. Never seen them in person so this should be a treat. Old time powerhouse versus up and coming powerhouse. Speed versus speed. Good coaching versus...well we get the picture. I hope it is at Floyd Casey, but would travel anywhere to see this match-up. If I'm not mistaken, this will be Cove's first game at FC. First game and first win. LOL

I predict Cove 24 - Lufkin 20.

Get 'em Dawgs.

And make sure yall do not play like you did vs Waco?? Didn't HH have a 4th quarter lead on yall also? Wait HH never had a 4th quarter lead on Lufkin? Keep using the HH game as a measuring stick that is fine. Hays was saying a similar thing last week about stuff like that because they beat Cedar Park by 14 and Cedar Park beat HH's 35-0. head to head is what matters and Lufkin simply knows how to win. By the way, Lufkin has won region 2 three out the last four year's not Cove. Region 2 belongs to Lufkin until somebody beats them.

Tell me you are a teenager with all this insane smack talk you dish out on a weekly basis right?

Considering Kyle is closer for Lufkin that would have seemed logical. I guess LP coach likes Waco since 3 of the 4 this year will have been their. It is interesting though:confused:

That makes no sense Super - seems you guys would have selected A&M - was this a home/home flip? I haven't heard - just seems both teams probably wanted Kyle -- I don't care that much but I always prefer Sat. afternoon over Fri. night.

Why A&M? Waco is alot closer than College Station.

What happens is they flip first for a home and home...or neutral. After that flip if it's home and home...they flip for that either NAC or Baylor. Cove won that.........

Favpack
11-26-2005, 08:41 PM
I'm not following you at all. IF the coaches can't decide on a neutral site at all - then they flip home/home. I assume what you're saying is correct - they flipped home/home and CC won and selected Baylor. Which is closer to CC - Baylor or Kyle Field? Floyd Casey is a bigggg stretch to be your home field IMO - whatever, it doesn't matter.

There is really nothing big enough close to Copperas Cove.........Baylor is the closest big stadium and it takes about an hour or so to get there from Cove..........

Lufkin coaches did the same thing they did last week.....

1. Both coahces flipped for either a home and home.....or a neutral site
2. Since the flip came up home and home........
3. They flipped again to see where it would be......Texas Stadium or Nac (Baylor or Nac this week)

You don't know what you're talking about. Lufkin opted for Tyler as a neutral site - but Garland wouldn't agree - so a home/home flip was made. Lufkin wanted Kyle Field as a neutral site - if CC didn't agree to it - then the home/home toss was made and CCove won. To my knowledge Lufkin ALWAYS opts for a neutral site because we travel so well. Don't come here saying what Lufkin did Super when you have no clue.

Well whatever they picked Tyler last week...I don't really care....all I know is they flipped THREE times today.....I don't know the exact thing...but this is from the LUFKIN PANTHER WEBSITE ON WHAT HAPPENED.....

Disappointed, you should be, because Outlaw lost the flip. The Copperas Cove coaches got exactly what they wanted.

They have a huge fan base and now only need to drive 1 hour to the game Friday night, it was their intention all along was to get an advantage on Lufkin. They are not dumb at all, they knew Lufkin had a big fan base and they also knew it would bw hard for Lufkin fans to make it to Waco on a Friday night.

Copperas Cove took the gamble and won the coin toss, they got what they wanted.

Tradition and playoff savy (especially for coachs) does make a difference, Very few teams making a deep playoff run for the first time, get a ring. Lufkin will match speed for speed, and can pass, Garland could not. Hope they can cut down on penalties. Cant wait for the Lufkin, SLC rematch. just dont play it at Texas Stadium.
My guess:
Lufkin 31
Cove 24

I think Lufkin needs to play one of their best games of the season to win this game. Cove is playing very well right now, and beat three quality opponents impressively to be in this position. Lufkin has also done a few things right to get in this position, but I think Cove is playing better football right now. This should be a great game.

I'm not sure how well Cove travels, but I know Lufkin will bring their normal big and vocal crowd.

i agree w/ this...Cove will definately be the best opponent we have faced all year....here they have a great defense and the offense can score some points...sounds like a direct reflection of the PACK...I have to say Lufkin can win this game (any team, anytime)..pending on if they come out and play to their ability and play smart...Its going to come down to execution with 2 great teams playing each other....Any given weekend for either team...We can talk all the talk, but we'll have to wait 6 days to see who walks.

If I am correct, you will soon be saying Region 2 belongs to Lufkin in the past tense.

This is from a previous post of mine:

One never knows.... for instance to me one of the hardest opponents Cove faced this season on a particular Friday night was the Waco Lions who only won maybe 2 games this season. However on their big rivarly night with Copperas Cove, they played their best and Copperas Cove had to play their best in 3 OT's to defeat them. On that particular night Waco could have beaten many other teams in our region.

That game is one that helped us prepare for the playoffs.......

The choice of sites can go three ways. Both coaches can agree to a neutral site, in which case there is no flip. Or they can filp for a "home neutral" site, which is what Waco is for Cove. Or they can flip for "home/home" in which case they play at the home field of whoever wins the toss. They also flip to see who will be the home team and who will be visitor.

Pack 97, I definitely think Lufkin can win this game. However, my honest thinking on this game is that Lufkin needs to play much better than they have so far in the playoffs, and Cove needs to be careful and not get caught up in themselves.

Cove has never been this far before, and it'd be easy to lose your head as a team. However, focus must be maintained. Lufkin has been here and done this many times, so I don't think they'll be phased at all.

Experience counts for a lot in my opinion, so I really think Cove needs to be careful and not get caught up in the hoopla this week. Lufkin can embarrass them if they do.

From a pure football point of view, I don't think I'm stretching it to say Cove is playing better football right now but we'll see how much that means when the ball is kicked off on Friday.

LMAO i figured i was older than ya and i did not say that to offend anyone that might get offended.

Dogs was just proper and old and had a history with our losing seasons. Changes have been good and since the change we have actually won a few games and made the playoffs.

Is a state title posible? So far the answer is yes, at least for 6 more days and after the game it may be another week possible til the end.

Go DAWGS lets do it all this year.

KT

I do agree with you in all aspects...LP cannot make the mistakes they have made the past 3 rounds and expect a win...personally, i have not seen Cove play this year, but their record speaks for itself...period...13-0 in a tough district....all i hope for is the best out of the PACK on friday...Its all about matchups, and we will see in 6 days. I'm not going to lie...I (being from LP) believe the PACK can definately win, but your right...they have to bring it with minimal mistakes.

--main thing im worried about is the mental mistakes and discipline (it showed today)

ROTFLMFAO AGAIN!!

I did that too. I look at my youngest who is in to all the new style stuff and i figure i can't beat him so i will work with him and accept the things he likes.

Amazing how we change as we get older.

Just a side note to Dawg fans, if I do pick Cove this week I wouldn't get all that excited ;) because Lufkin wins every time I get the nerve to pick against them!

HAHA kt you have to go with Cove man please?? ;) Wait, you picked Lufkin to win both times vs SLC correct? If Lufkin wins this game you have to go with SLC Period!! No excuses at all

Making it to this round for the first time in school history makes CC an up and coming powerhouse?

I believe so. And I emphasize UP AND COMING. We're not there yet, but we've done everything else. We've been to the playoffs 7 of the last 8 years. We've won a bunch of district titles in what has proven to be a tough district. We have accumulated a large fan base that follows it everywhere. We've put over 50 kids into the college ranks in the last 5 years. And we've had several make NFL rosters. Again, I know Lufkin and many other POWERHOUSES have much better numbers than that. That's why I say we're not their yet, but we're up and coming. We've gotta continue to make it to the playoffs every year and go deep into the playoffs and win state before we can claim powerhouse status. But all the pieces have been there for Cove and they've taken a couple of steps this year.

If the post comes off as being defensive, it's not meant to be. I look forward to seeing the Purple Nation and the Panthers for the first time and especially to a great game Friday night. I believe Friday will be Texas high school football at its best.

Hmmmm.....interesting, who are these "several" NFL players you speak of?

Charles Tillman is a starting corner for the Bears. TJ Hollowell is with the Giants. I know he made their practice squad and I heard he got moved up. But don't quote me on that. We also had a QB for the Oilers, can't think of his name right now, back about ten years. He was a backup.

The point I was trying to make is we've begun putting the pieces together, and that includes putting people into the pros. Not a lot, but since Jack Welch came along about 10 years ago, we've slowly built our program.

Cove -V- Lufkin should be a very good game between 2 very good defenses.

Cove-If you have seen Cove play you know they are a VERY well disciplined.Jack Weltch gets this team prepared for Coves oppent as well as any coach in High school football. Cove has good team speed, and a overall GREAT defense. The D lead by Tim Achinenson, doesnt seem to be prone to giving up very many big plays over 30 yards. I think this team can contain Lufkins offense.

Lufkin-Has a GREAT defense. I have watched a couple of Lufkins games and they are straight up fast. There speed is simple electric. I think Lufkin will dominate coves rushing attack and force Gardner to pass. I may be wrong but gardners never throws the ball very much in a game, correct? I wonder if Gardner can hold the weight of the Lufkins defense of his shoulder............If Cove cant run the ball, Id say LP wins big.

In the end I say lufkin wins in a close game. I think lufkins athletic ability will be a little to much for Cove...

You are correct Tillman plays for the Bears. Howard Hodges plays for the Charges, TJ Hollowell signed with the NY Jets. TJ was practice squad of the Giants but signed with the Jets. Vontez Duff drafted buy the Texans, cut then was on the practice squad of the Steelers; as far as I know he got cut and is not playin.

Cove is the most underrated ranked team in the state. They are carrying a chip on their shoulders from last years surprise play-off loss. Neither team will not over look one another and they would be crazy to do so. So that means they weill be focused as will Lufkin. Cove does not make mistakes and I think that will win them the ball game. Lufkin is good and I have watched them play but I just think this will be Cove's comming out game. It will be tight and intense for the whole game. Lufkin could come up and take it to another level but I see it staying close. I have no problem with Lufkin being the odds on Fav but don't insult Cove by picking Lufkin by double digits. Can not wait to see it, will be a barn-burner.... cove sneaks by Lufkin.

The pack D showed up against S.G and the O put up the points it needed and the pack won the game now we play COVE. this is going to be a good game. if the Pack D can shut down the running game of COVe like it did S.G and make them pass then it will be a long day for the Cove players the pack secondary is very good. This is going to be a fun game and dont worry lufkin fans will be there. it is going to be fun. i would say that there is no underdog in this game both teams are the same and it is going to come down to the turnover game who ever makes the most will get beat. that is what you can say about football for the most part turnovers and flags loose games. the pack has to cut back on the flags and play a turnover free game.

I say lufkin by 7. either in a high scoring game or a big time D game.

It will be key for Cove to Pass the football. If they come in trying to pund it down the throat of the Purple Shirt defense there in for a rude awakening. Lufkin must play there game with as few mistakes as possible. One simple turnover can cost either team. Saturday Lufkin erupted in the passing game by dismantling the best secdonary it had faced all season. Claybon had an outstanding game throwing 3 TD's in the first half before costing for the easy 25-7 win. Cove has that bend but dont brake defense wich can cause Lufkin problems. Coves offensive is explosive some what like Budda Hays. Cove can strike quick and often. But for Cove to win this game there defense will have to play the best ot has played all season. Lufkin has one of the best WR corps in the NATION. If Claybon can get the ball to the WR's like he didi against SG then Lufkin will have success and will beat Cove. SG had 2 D1A players in there secondary and they felt the burn of they Pack now we will see if Cove is up to the challenge. One thing is for sure I will be there rooting on my Boys in Purple win or loose either team congrats on a great season.

hey bro i would agree we held him to 3 catched but he did have 111 yards. but we did shut eveyone else down but i would admit that payne got his but he is one of the best WR in the state. the amazing thing about that game was that we held S.G to 0 yards Rushing that is amazing to hold a team to 0 yards rushing in the playoffs and in the 3rd round. the Lufkin d played a heck of a game and if they play like that against COve then i would be so dang happy only thing they got to do is cut back making mistakes like giving a late hit on a 3rd down that lead to S.G only TD take away that late hit it is 4th down and they dont score that whole game except maybe a Fg.

Finally, some real talk about football.:)

Coming into this year very little was known at how well the offense would gel. After losing J. Lane (TAMU), a 2-year QB, and a Sr. OL. Evryone in Lufkin was waiting to see where we'd go. Yes, we did play a weak schedule (wasn't planned that way), but it did work to our benefit in that it gave time for the O to come togehter. I guess they did since Jeremy Claybon broke Reggie McNeal's single season passing record by 3 this past week. I am not saying Claybon is a Reggie McNeal, but it shows they know how to score. The offense if getting better each week. The O is probably man-for-man faster than the D, but may be debatable? 2 very good RB's in Kibble and Turner with different styles of running. 4 very good WR's that can break it long any time. The game with HH was not a very good showing of LP other than they did not quit and surged strongly when they had to. Hays took away the pass, so LP opened up the run...SG was strong against the run so LP went to the air. 2nd half just trying to run time off the clock, along with a huge number of penalties, which is kind of curious that LP wasn't committing these in the 1st half??

The "D" has been strong enough to allow the O to mature. The "D" is extremely fast, but sometimes prone to the big play, which will have to improve this week. Outlaw has been playing a lot of underclassman the past few weeks. The Int almost returned against SG was a Soph.

All-in-all it should be a great game and fun to watch...

EasTex9
11-27-2005, 07:23 PM
The district was down this year, but keep in mind we played a few mid-week games due to the Hurricane...how did the cane effect your playing schedule? We only had 4-days between games at times.

Nobody should be comparing scores, because they mean absolutely nothing. in 2002 we beat Katy pretty handily here in LP, they went on to win state that year handing SLC it's only loss since entering 5A. Last year Tyler Lee got beat badly by Trinity only to come back and beat them in the playoffs. Heck just look at Converse Judson this year....looked at first like they were gone early, but they are still playing.....

Waco was not a weak team...even tho they didn't make the playoffs.....Cove and Waco is a huge rivalry game......There was not one team in district that blew out Waco........not even Consolidated........even the Waco-Harker Heights game went down to the very end.

If you want to compare scores.....how much did Lufkin beat Klein Forest by? Cove played KF later on in the season and drilled them 62-12

Considering Lufkin put their 2nd string offense and defense in the 3rd quarter vs KF go ahead and compare scores. KF 2nd score to give them 14 was on a turnover by our 2nd string qb early in the 4th. Lufkin still won 37-14 when they showed complete mercy. That is Outlaw!! Hey, do you want to compare records, or playoff records in the last 5 years or so? That is what i thought because that would be severely embarrassing to both Cove and their fans. Those teams are always the ones that say that is just history and it does not count. Didn't Cedar Park embarrass Cove just last year? The same team Lufkin beat 24-7 in the regional finals?? Lufkin has 12 starters back from that same team.

Charles Tillman for the Chicago Bears for one.

Lufkin has 4 current NFL players and had 6 NFL players just 2 years ago. Reggie will make 5 very soon. Lufkin has produced the most div1a players in the last 10 years then any other program in the nation. Do not come to us with the talent stuff you have to do better then that. ;)

No one came to you about the talent stuff. The question was asked who is in the NFL from COVE and I answered. I gave one name of the current 3 or 4 that are playing. I personally could care less what Lufkin has done or is doing or will do...just answering a question so calm yourself.

Well they have 11 div1a signees in just the last 2 years but several are not playing for various reasons. Reggie, Javorskie, Alton Dixon, and Kevin Bryan are all at a&m currently. Alton a db plays as a true freshmen on nickel situations and made a strip vs UT last week. Bryan is a offensive lineman but was a te in hs for the pack. Parks is a qb at Baylor and has started several games. J Sheppard starts at corner for Rice, Mckinner Dixon ( one of the top dl's in the nation last year) starts as a true freshmen at Texas Tech. Rashad Hunt dl is also at Tech but redshirted as a true freshmen. Gardner and Hadnot play at Lousiana Lafayette, Chris Pilot defensive end, starts at Houston. Tyson Kirksey stud lb from the 2003 signed with Wash st but had to leave because of grades. Aaron Darks stud lb from 2003 signed with Kansas St but was kicked out because of discipline problems. That is all i can think of right now but i know i am forgetting a few? Lufkin has 4 current NFL players and 3 start. They had 6 just a few years ago but 2 are gone from the league now. Lufkin should have another 5 to 7 div1a senior recruits off this team. The only one that has given a true commitment as of right now is Shankle. Supposedly a&m??

well Cove put the 2nd string and alot of JV boys into the game in the second half, and the JV boys were moving the ball on Klein Forest....

but none of that has any bearing on friday night at all, unlike mr. trooper fan of 11 years as he said, he only knows Cove as a winning team, I have been a fan since 1976, my freshman year at Cove, I know the lows of year after year of losing. During those years I still followed the rest of the state and Lufkin is a school that was always somewhere near the top of the heap, year in, year out. I have watched this program grow at Cove, and this year's team is a product of that program and the best one Cove has fielded to date.
I really don't know which team will win this friday, I'm pulling for the Dawgs. This game will be the measuring stick for Jack Welch's program and could indeed be the coming out party for Cove. It will be the biggest crowd they have ever played in front of. I was at the Cedar Park/Lufkin game last year and saw how the Purple Nation travels, "ya'll bring it well". Nothing but respect for Lufkin, you have the history, the championships, and 13-0 record and you've earned that respect. I still think Cove can take it to ya, we'll see friday night.

The Panther defense will not give up 34 points to Cove. Both teams have the speed to burn so that will be a standoff there. I think the Lufkin defense is better and will be the difference.

Lufkin - 27

Cpperas Cove - 21

Now, if Lufkin goes out and gets 106 penalty yards again, Cove will have the advantage.

Lufkin is not an undisiplined team like a Klein Forest, please don't put us in that catagory.

not putting you in a catagory, or saying LP is undisciplined at all, for all I know Lukinf is very disciplined

What I'm saying is that Cove has a very disciplined defense, that "stays home" and does'nt make many mistakes and our offense is VERY good at turning opponet's mistakes into 7 very quickly

believe me, I know what catagory Lukin is in, and I see Cove in the same
I still say 34-24 Cove, with Cove having a special teams score somewhere in there

We dealt with the Klein Forest catagory as we should have, and not bragging, but the 62 spot put up on them was not running it up, it could have been much worst, 2nd team and JV played nearly all of second half

I've watched Lufkin play all year and have come to one conclusion. They never had to play hard until the playoffs. The defense especially never was challanged to play their best.It took 2 playoff games for the defense to play with all their effort and begin to know what it takes to play their best.Back when Lufkin played both Tyler teams twice along with Longview, Katy,Aldine Eisenhower, and Marshall in the same year, they were prepared for the playoffs and also banged up. This year they never had to play but one or two quarters. The SG game looks like they may be beginning to gell.It should be a great game against Cove.:)

I like that JOE LP

the pack D has not played a full game all year long for the most part they have cruised past everyone and not played. but in the playoffs they have played 3 good teams so far and this week is a Great Team. if the Lufkin D can come out and play like they did against S.G and shut down the run and make them pass i like the panthers chances better we have to make them tryo to depend on the passing game and shut down the running game. the pack D needs to show up like they did against S.G but play better and we will be fine cut back on the flags and even better.

LETS GO PACK 3 DAYS OF PRACTICE and Film and 1 day for the bus drive and just imagine your self on that bus ride making a big play and catching and tackling. this is not a road trip for us this is a BUSINESS TRIP. we are there to play Football win and come home. and get ready for rd 5 of the playoffs.

As was said earlier, Lufkin does not have a student section, we all just sit together with our families or friends, Lufkin doesn't have pep rallies or big send offs for the team. We are all business and the fans know their football and how to support the Pack. We are one big community together and we know how to win big games. If I can get away with it, I never sit during a playoff game. You people from Cove will be surprised at how many Lufkin folks will make that 3 hour drive on a Friday night to Waco. We are use to traveling 2 hours to play district games on Fridays all the time, what's another hour going to hurt. The Lufkin fans can travel with no problem. We will be there Friday. The Panthers are 63-6 the past five years and the Pack fans outnumbering the home team on away game has been a big part in that winning combination.

Yep - Lufkin by 7. Lufkin ISD decided to release students from school at 1pm on Friday to allow everyone a good, safe chance to make it to Waco for the game. Won't be no rush since we're getting out early. More will be there because of the early release.

I really think it will be Lufkin by a close mark, but South Lake Carroll will not be a game I'd want to see. I think SLC will blast us good! Afraid to see it or speculate.

Most of the Dawg fans are well aware of the "Purple Nation" that follows the team. I for one think that is great that there is so much support. Over the last few years the Dawg traveling fan base has grown to an impressive number, and hope it continues. I don't know if we will out number the "Purple Nation" but I do expect that this be the Dawgs largest crowd ever.
