Tech widened their computer lead when 'bama lost ground, but the pollsters kept 'em out of 1st because they had a bye. Tech did still gain ground on 'bama. Texas and Florida both jumped up their computer ratings, but OU stayed the same. Texas gained ground on OU, but it probably won't last if the Sooners win the next 2 games.

The leap frog will come when Florida crushes Alabama - which will happen. 'Bama is not that great. That's when Texas gets screwed.
I'm pulling for Tech to win, so we have Tech in the champ. game - and UT in the bcs.

My dream National Championship game match up right now:
Texas vs Florida
Texas wins out, Ou beats Tech and than loses to Mizzou in Big 12 Championship (or beats Mizzou but the pollsters open their eyes and see a Texas win over OU by 10 points) and than Florida over Alabama.
IMO Florida controls their own fate. Beat Bama and they are probably in as ridiculous as that sounds.

Don't count on any team that doesn't win their conference making the national championship. Doesnt make sense to put a team that wasn't the champion of their conference in the title game does it?
Go oregon state, if they win out they win the pac 10 over USC.

Not really. 'bama gaining a little ground on Tech was not a foregone conclusion in the human polls. I expected a Tech widening in the computers.
The other issue at play was that Florida was going to be helped more in the human polls and computers than Texas and I didn't know if there would be a switch there. OU was safe at 5.

That garbage in the polls is pitiful. 'bama just doesn't deserve #1. I didn't call for the polls to push Tech to #1, but I did expect them to make up some ground. As it is, the ground they gained in the computers was almost as much as they lost in the polls and it was little gain at all.

There are three or four other teams that should be in that spot this week...
But...it's the bcs...
You come into the week #1...win...and leave...#1...

Florida would have to beat bama but barely, and possibly lose or struggle to some no name.
But I DOUBT they would do two teams from the same conference. The BCS will get around it...somehow.
They'll jsut throw USC in or something...;)

Florida and Bama would either both have to lose before the SEC title game, or one would have to lose and then beat the one that won out. Then it'd probably be between Texas and USC. Even as a longhorn, if we don't win our conference, we don't deserve to be playing for the title. If Bama loses the SEC title to a two loss Florida or vice versa, and USC wins the Pac-10, I'd vote for USC. vs Tech. If Oregon State ends up winning the Pac-10 and all of the stuff I mentioned earlier happens... Then :Censor: if I know what's fair.

Florida is on fire right now. They might be the fastest college team I've ever seen. They have unreal speed. I won't complain if they get into the national title game. I think they could destroy Bama in the SEC title game. The Ole Miss loss was a fluke.
Bama is not that good. I'd pick the top four to five teams in the Big 12 over Bama right now (OU, TT, UT, OSU, Mizz).
This is a weak year for the SEC outside of Florida.

Please don't refer to"computer rankings" anymore. Some of you guys have the stats down better than the pros. What these rankings are comprised of is a statistical analysis..it uses variables like "strength of schedule", points, etc and these are put into an analysis by software..not the computer hardware...Why is this important? Because while the BCS folks have the whole country talking about computers (that is what they want) most of us think of it on those terms..it keeps us dumb. Let's attack the type of analysis that is being done...that is what a statistician would do..not just the descriptive stats that sports guys do (simpleminded)...but the stats that most people have trouble with in college and grad school. The issue here is that the type of analysis that is being done uses different variables (as mentioned above..you guys probably know about these than I do) but when you use these different types of variables...you have different forms of measurement associated with these variables...one can be on an interval scale another on a rank order scale..(consult your old stat book)..OK so if I havent lost you than you actually have a brain...by using different forms of measurement for a group of variables in the analysis than you introduce disadvantages to that analysis..it does give you an order as we see in the BCS rankings..but there are problems..it is not the computer it is not the software..it is the statistical procedure being used...we need to get stat guys involved in tearing down this BCS mess that is a complete joke...as long as people keep talking about "computers" than we are ignorant..let's attack the stats themselves...you don't use division for everything do you...y=mx+b but that doesnt solve every problem does it? this is not rocketscience guys.....the bottom line is a PLAYOFF is the only answer...we will get there and one of these days a David will slay a Goliath..isn't that what makes football fun? Looking at BCS numbers is like looking at the end of a long algabreic equation answer..it tells you nothing..you need to understand how you got there..once you do that..people will see how ridiculous it is...

The BCS changes spots. In 2005, Texas was #1 for a week, but USC was #1 in all the other weeks until the final game.
I don't recall Texas being #1 ranked that entire season. In fact, it's been repeated in the media almost constantly that USC and Texas were #1 & #2 from beginning to end...until Texas won the BCS Title game, of course. Is that not correct?

Texas was never #1 in any human polls but after they demolished then #9 Tech (I might have my numbers wrong I'm about to leave and don't want to look it up) they opened up a big enough lead in the computers and barely pulled away for ONE WEEK in the computers. The next week I think was Oklahoma State and although we won we didn't demolish them so we dropped back to #2. Texas and USC were 1/2 in the human polls the entire season.
