View Full Version : My one complaint about SLC

Our fans/parents in the stands seem to sleep through the game. This has been a problem for several years. There is one small section of parents that are super-loud and the rest are just dormant until they stand for 45 seconds after a TD. When I am in the stands looking at the opposition's fans (esp Lufkin, Katy, Abilene) I am just in awe at the noise they make. We need to charge $2 extra for tickets to the game and hand out red-bulls to all our fans when they're coming in the gate! Also I didn't notice/hear those crazy-loud noise makers (the huge blow-horn thing, etc) that we've had in games the last few years. Are those fans gone or just not at the AHS game? We need to shakeoff that stereotype of a bunch of middle-aged snobby accountants that think we're too good to jump up and down and yell AND MAKE SOME NOISE!!

It's product of your success. Scoring 50 pts a game in a blowout every week just gets old after a while. You will see the noise when/if you get contested this year.

we were listening to full frontal eagle chanting, and they us. i bet we sounded louder to them than to ourselves.

There was a time when there was not a lot to get loud about Katy fotball.
Maybe we just haven't forgotten the lean times and are more appreciative of the effort.
More than that, the crowd is a tool for the team and most of us know that we can make a difference on a play. It's an emotional push.
I come home hoarse every game.

I think you may be doing the fans an injustice. The noise from the opposite side always sounds louder because it coming directly at you, whereas your own noise is reverberated way from you. Perhaps someone on the field could confirm.
In addition, while Abilene definitely had more fans at the start of the game, but at the start of the 2nd half there were huge gaps - I think many Abilene fans deserted the sinking ship at half time.

I think our fans get up at the right times..like when our defense stuffs another drive they always get a standing O..McElroy got a standing o when he came out after the 3rd..they understand & appreciate the important things..what did Abilenes noise get them? Another loss to Carroll, this one a blowout..

good point. Anyone from Abilene left that could comment on how we sounded? On the field?
i'm also partly spoiled b/c I go to A&M (sick i know) and we stand the whole game, have yells (chants) etc I guess they're the exception though rather than SLC

the fans last night were some of the better so far this season. but i'll agree phoenix, fans in southlake are somewhat spoiled and seem to go just to watch the show. But when the tough games come in the next couple of weeks, im sure the fans will too.

true true...Also at the very end of the game when the announcer congratulated Abilene on a great season EVERYONE from SLC (even people leaving) stopped and started clapping for them. That was cool.
lol there are a lot of us Dragon fans on right now...so any of you know that huge blow-horn thing im talking about and where ti is?

Most stadiums don't allow those loud horns in the gate.
I lost my voice in the 1st qtr. Some of that was from just yelling at the refs!
It is true that it is easier to hear from the other side. I couldn't even hear our band duritng the Alma Matre. All the sound travels across.
Regarding support and noise, it was really loud in the first qtr with everyone standing. The bigger the blowout, the lower the volume. The D was getting great ovations for their many stops as they should throughout the 2nd half.
When it's close, the noise won't stop. Remember the Grapevine game? My ears are still ringing!
Abilene had 20K there last night. If we bring 20K, the entire city would be dark - that's our whole town. Most teams would give their right arms for the support the Dragon Nation brings every week. The players and coaches know it and feel it. They'll tell you.

Last year in State Champion game for Tyler Lee vs Spring Westfield, we had everything we could use including loud horns, gas cans with beans (extremely loud!), even 1 guy had 1 huge bell that you bang on it (my big brother was 2 seats away from him and he said it was very loud!!). We had everything prepared to make it loud all the time everytime something good happen even interceptions, it was great! (it was at Alamodome) but they allowed it at Texas Stadium too.

At Shotwell against Midland Lee, they sent noisemakers back to the cars before the game. Not even allowed in the gate.

i keep hearin slc fans sayin trinity has no unity and trinity fans sayin they do cuz they do a dance and a bunch of people talkin trash. everything that happens off of the field is irrelevant all that matters it what gos down on the field and how a team reacts together.

considering the results on the field, the slc fans are doing it just about perfectly. don't change a thing.

Abilene's fans were much louder...not that it mattered. The one thing you can count on is that West Texas (at least Abilene) fans will not be outdone by anyone. What this game does show is to those other fans who so seriously doubted the interest in last years game...I didnt catch the official attendence but there had to be almost the same number...upwards of 30K. ANd there were no other games afterwards to attribute that number too; just some very loyal and well followed football programs on both sides.

I was very impressed with the number Abilene fans at the game. When I entered the seating area and looked across it was an awesome sight to see the opposite side almost full. But I was very disappointed at the start of the 2nd half to see that so many fans had left. Abilene was going to receive the kick-off and if Abilene had scored, then it could have been a different game, but a lot of fans would not have been there to see it. I feel that your "loyal” fans should have stayed to support the team when they most needed support.

I wouldn't worry too much about how you sound Dragon fans. Trust me, you were plenty loud last night, and will probably be louder if challenged. I sat on the Eagle side last night; no reason really, I could have easily sat on the SLC side, but the home side was closer to where I parked. There were more people on the Abilene side, but I imagine people with no allegiance were on the home side rooting for SLC to lose (not that I was). I saw quite a few that seemed to fit that description from where I was sitting. Hopefully, SLC and LP will meet again for round three, and as always, the game will take on a college atmosphere.

You probably saw a lot of "neutral" football fans leaving (I was one of them), not loyal Eagle fans.

SLC fans may be going through the success-is-boring cycle. I saw Permian go through it after awhile. The crowds yelled less & less & finally, we just lost our enthusiasm as fans as the program gradually fell off (there was more to it than that). I'm not saying that is happening to SLC, but that's usually how it starts in the early stages. Yes, quite a few people left the stands on the Ab. side in the 3rd qtr., but I would imagine that if SLC were getting a good old-fashioned butt-whipping, it might surprise you how many SLC fans would leave in the 3rd qtr. BTW, I just saw the Plano/Mid. game; ya'll won't have any trouble w/ Plano next wk. (no offense to Plano; that's just the truth). Good luck SLC; you guys are smooth.

thanks for a very classy post mojo. You are right. As I posted earlier many SLC fans just come to 'watch the show' Only in the Grapevine nail-biter, and last night has the crowd really been into the game. Although they like to sit and watch, they can be counted on when needed.

i was at the game last night. i sat on the SLC side and was in awe of the abeline fans, they were LOUD, quite intmidating for anylesser team. the air horns etc are not allowed inside the stadiums, uil rules. at the start of the second half, you had maybe half the SLC fans that you had at the begining.

2001 State Championship Game - Denton Ryan 42 SV 35
2002 State Championship Game - SLC 45 SV 14
2004 State Championship Game - SLC 27 SV 24

At least they make it there:D
Sv was the underdog not expecting to do much in any of those games and made 2 out of 3 down to the wire contests. Those boys played their hearts out and came up short in the end, have some respect, hell i respect slc for winning those games.

where are some feasible locations? Texas Stadium is one, but that gives SLC a huge homefield advantage. They don't play high school games at Darrell do they? College Station might be an option. Reliant is probably too far for both teams. That's really disappointing that it wont be at Floyd Casey because that is pretty much a perfect venue for these two teams.

i would like to let you know that the band is always, and i mean always making noise. whenever the opposition is on offense we play. i drink energy drinks before every game and get pumped. i come home hoarse every game.

the noise thing, like peopel said doesnt seem as loud when your in it...
like the band i think were quiet, but after talking to some people on hear, were LOUD, it just where you are, one game just walk to the other sdie of the stadium and listen then you'll understand! trust me dragon nation is LOUD!
dont worry, i'll get the band to start the lets go dragons chants when we need it, and the cheerleaders will start the Charlie Charlie chants when needed as well

We got loud as hell vs. Grapevine.
I think the previous poster is correct about the success SLC has experienced. I think we sometimes just sit around and wait on drama.
