Well, it was a decent week for 265a, sqauring of against some strong teams in 255a. We went 3-1 with some close victories and 1 loss. Madison pulled it out 19-14 against Bowie Friday night from Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos.
Reagan and SV both had very good games against Austin High and P'ville. SV closing the deal against P'ville 14-7 and Reagan held off a late surge from Austin High to finish 24-20.
Austin Westlake came through with a convincing win against Roosevelt, shutting the Rough Riders out 28-0 in the first half. Roosevelt made a game of it in the 2nd half, but the Chaps held them off for a 42-21 final.
Great week folks. Congratulations to Roosevelt on a strong return to the playoffs in 265a. Not only did you improve your record, but your reputation of strenght of character won't be forgotten. Wish you could be with us in the 2nd round.
Round 1
Madison...19..Austin Bowie...14
Roosevelt...21..Austin Westlake...42
SV...14..P'ville...7
Reagan...24...Austin High...20
Round 2
Madison vs. Clark
SV vs. O'Connor
Reagan vs. Warren
Look for a 265A clean sweep. The only half way close game may be Reagan vs Warren.

Madison is playing Clark Friday night at 7:30 at the Alamodome
It looks like Reagan and SV will play Warren and O'Connor at the dome as well on Saturday. Anyone know the times for those games?

Ever since Warren got that pass game working, they have been scary! Should be a great game. Reagan's defense keeps holding tough. Austin High had a really good passing game too. I think I'll be in attendance for this one.

Warren has been playing much better since they found a passing game. Should be a great game. Think Madison and SV will win by two TDs. Don't have a score for Warren vs Reagan, but will go with the 265 homer pick and take Reagan in a close one, similar to last year's Mad vs Warren.

Hate all you want but I think this year the NISD breaks through.
I saw the OC today and man they are a machine. They are huge at every position and the only thing that hurt them (and the thing that always hurts OC) is they can not contain speed and get burned for long TD runs. If OC was playing Reagan or Madison I say OC is going home but the SV game plan of clock and ball control is just what OC needs. The coaching in this game will be top notch and fun to watch.
Warren is on a mission ever since last year in the Dome game against Madison. They will not make the same mistakes they made last year. If Warren can throw the ball on Reagan this game is over midway through the 3rd period and this time the Warriors will not let up in the 4th quarter.
Madison, well Madison is again banged up, Teams like OC and SV can overcome injuries because they are balanced attacks and one player does not effect the flow of the team that much. Madison is a home run hitting team. They are looking for the knock out blow every snap. Last year the stars aligned and Madison found a way. i think this team is too young and a year away. Clark is not the most experienced team but quietly peaking at the right time.

With Roosy losing and Madison getting a nailbiter and Reagan surviving a last minute comeback I'm inclined to say that the 265 is showing its mortal self.
Reagan will have its hands full. I'd bet my car that they have not for one second remembered the crazy series of events that lead them to lose against us.
Reagan Warren and OC SV should be games. I've got confidence Madison can take Clark.

They're at a place where people don't end sentences in prepositions. But, grammar is besides the point here. Clark will have to do a LOT more than run left, run right, run up the middle with Tilgman to beat Madison.

LOL. You're good. Did they teach you that at Madison? At least my tax dollars are being used for some good. Hate to tell you, but Jock isn't the only person who scores touchdowns on the team. Hayden scored four the other night against Victoria. Clark essentially has two top running backs on the team. That's why they're so dangerous this season. They run one of the best Options offenses I've seen in high school for some time. Hayden's arm has been getting better over the last couple of games as well. Unlike you, I'm not claiming victory. Madison may very well beat Clark. However, I wouldn't go walking into the Alamodome Friday thinking about where I'll be playing on Thanksgiving weekend. Do that, and you'll be borrowing one of Judson's Sprit Towels to wipe the tears out of your eyes.

I'm curious why everyone thinks Madison is just going to roll over Clark. Clark went 9-1 with their only loss coming to Warren. Their offense looks like it's putting up good numbers and their defense doesn't allow too many points. I haven't seen Clark play, but I've watched Madison and I just don't see Madison getting a pass this week.
BTW... was there a team in the state who's fans thought they played the best game of the season this weekend? Every score and description of the game I've seen this week seems to be littered with self inflicted wounds, poor play and flat out lack of intensity. Madison looked flat/bad. Bowie seemed unmotivated. Judson had countless turnovers. SV sounded like they couldn't move the ball. Wagner played awful. I heard Roosevelt had a bunch of issues in their game. What's the deal? Was it the moon, cold front, wind, Obama, Bush, what the heck?!!!

I'm guessing because it was the result of their game with Churchill. Clark bearly beat them and they (Churchill) ended up only beating Johnson and Lee in district play. But that was a long time ago and things, I am sure, have changed. They played Warren close for a half and then got blow out in the end.

Also, 28-5A has more teams still alive this season than 26-5A. (Way to go Roosy)
I wonder who comes out of this next week with more teams still alive. It's kinda sad that the second round of the playoffs is becoming like the third round. Instead of "Valley Week" it's "NISD Week." It seems like if the 265 rep can get past that first week, they've got a relative pass until quarters.
But hey, maybe Shooter is right. Maybe the NISD schools have a better shot this year considering the "down year" by the premier district. :D

The 28-5A still has all four teams alive because they played 27-5A. We all know that only one team from 275A was really playoff worthy and they(Judson) still lost in the 1st round. Might have been different results if they had to play 25-5A.

True. I'm just saying, it's going to be really funny if they come into this week with one more team than we have and then we leave with 3 more than they'll have. lol
In all fairness though, if Judson had played that same game against, say, Westlake... they would've been destroyed. They would've have lost by just 2 points. Westlake would've capitalized on more than just 2 of those turnovers.

Tougher in your minds. I'll agree Reagan and SV have very good teams. Obviously because they beat Madison. The rest of the teams in your district are no stronger than the weak teams in 28-5. You have Johnson and Lee, we have Brandeis and Holmes. Don't take any credance with the close game against Churchill. It was the first game of the season (never did like that stupid Gucci Bowl crap).
As I stated in another thread, I'd prefer to have more inner-district matchups during the season. Unfortunately because of the number of teams in each district, you can only play 1 or 2 games outside your district. They do this at the beginning of the season when all the teams still haven't fine tuned their games, and found what their strengths and weaknesses are in their offenses and defenses. (Case in point, Madison let Kerrville Tivy score 56 points on them.) I honestly have only seen Madison play one game in the last 5 years. I imagine you and the rest of the Madison fans probably have never seen Clark play. I mean, who has the time to go to a game in another district? If your team has a bye week, or you play on a Friday, I bet if you do go to another game on Saturday, it'll be to someone else in your district. So you may think Madison has the dominant team, but unless you've actually watched Clark play this year, you are as uninformed about their strengths and weaknesses as I am about Madison's.

I saw Clark play this year against Stevens. Clark struggled in the first half. I won't say that it was because Stevens was playing magnificent football. Clark just struggled a bit, but took over toward the end of the 1st half.
I'm impressed with Jock Tilghman. With those kind of numbers, who wouldn't be.
You discount your first game against Churchill, but you claim that Madison isn't very good because we struggled in our first game against O'Connor (a team you say is very good.) So where is the flaw in the logic. Madison let go 56 points against Tivy...who didn't this season? Their average was just under 50 points a game.
Not for nothing, but our defense has gotten a lot better. The same way you claim your passing game has improved. I'm not predicting a rout, but I'm pretty positive Madison can match up better athlete to athlete with Clark. In my mind, that equals a Madison victory.

The edge seems to be going to all of the 265a teams. While I agree, I think that each of the 285a teams have game breakers that could blow things open. Lancaster and Minor at O'Connor, Tilghman and Greenbauer at Clark, and Owens, Bonguli, and Horstman at Warren.
My picks:
SV over O'Connor +14
Madison over Clark +7-14
Reagan vs. Warren- too close for me to call

I'm back. Just had to rest and recoup from the Westlake blow-up. I'm better now. Everything became much brighter after I learned Judson had lost too. ;)
But, it still took days to get over our first-half sleep walk vs Westlake. :(
But, my picks for the week:
SV +20
Madison +18
Reagan +2
Reagan vs Warren will be tight. Clark doesn't stand a chance vs Madison. SV is my State Finalist pick. I will stand by my claim that 26-5A is the class of Region 4. Just because my TR boy's overlooked Westlake doesn't make 26-5A mortal. The close games don't make 26-5A mortal, just marked. 26-5A will still be around at the end of the year. ;)

26-5A will still be around at the end of the year. ;)
So what do you predict about our (Westlake's) game v. Stevens?

Westlake +35
Judson over-looked Stevens. Westlake will eat Stevens alive. The second round match-up of Rivals got both TR and Judson in the 1st round, in this mans opinion. :D

I like your picks but I will take Warren 21-17, not impressed with the outcome of the Reagan game with Austin I really thought they would have won by 21 points.
I would not be surprised with a Warren win, but I had to make THE 265 homer pick. :)

It is always very hard to pick against 265A that is for sure. It is really not a homer pick, it is sticking behind the best hardest district in the state.

Really!?! Not that I'm saying this can't happen. Its just that Warren's a pretty darn good team. I don't think they've let go 42 points in any game over the past couple years.
Aww, what the hell. Reagan by 42, SV by 64, and Madison by eleventy billion!!!!! GO 265!!!!

No real surprise with Reagan's win - most of their wins and losses have been close games. Their D is good enough to keep them in every game and O is just good enough to win most of their games.
Austin High's #17 (Emory Blake) is a VERY good football player. He kept them in the game. He played a little QB, a little RB, and WR.

Talking with a coach last night who is a coach in 265a said that reagans defense was the best in the district, Madisons offense was the best, and that SV was the best overall team...Also that each should get to the next round...also that Warren was no fluke of a team...so be careful teams play hard and rep that 265a like we know you can.

I will offer something that should provoke a few responses here – I predict the road to the Div 1 Sate Semi-finals runs through Westlake. They have a strong offence and have been playing well since mid-season, plus their coaching staff has a long history of going deep in the playoffs.

and of the four games this weekend in the dome they have (on paper) the weakest opponent, and on paper the weakest two opponents waiting in round three from the valley. If Westlake does not play in the Region finals i would say the Chaps post season was a failure from here on out.

In my mind, if you are in division 1 and planning on winning the state championship you will have to beat the Chaps.

Reagan definitely had a great defense this year..very aggressive and smothering. I would also say that New Braunfels' defense was at least as good as Reagan's, though the NB offense was plagued with problems.

Reagans defense was good, New Braunfels defense was good, but i thought SV defense was the best. Well based off of what i saw against Madison. They werent as big as others but they did the best job against Madison that any other team did.

Can't argue that a bit. Westlake has been one of the top 4 teams in region 4 the past 20 years.
1. Judson
2. SV
3. Westlake
4. Madison
Not for nothing, but I'd give Westlake the edge in most games in the playoffs. I know if my Mavs want to get to the state finals, they'll be going through some tough teams. If we're lucky enough to get there, the region final will be against Westlake. Some really good games to play in between here and there, but that would be a great game.

Found this online:
'The Chaps have won four regional titles in their last six forays into Region IV. In its 16 seasons as a Class 5A program, Westlake has competed in Region IV 12 times. The Chaps have a 27-6 playoff record against regional foes in that span.'
That's a mighty good record. Don't now if even SV or Judson can match that regional mark.

How many State Championships has Judson won over the last 16 years? Much more than Westlake.

Oh, absolutely. Westlake has one, right? And Judson has, what, 6?
I'm thinking of just regional results. It's gotta be Judson and Westlake with the most Region IV 5A wins (and, yes, SV just needs more 5A history to be right there with them).
