Way to close...We came out and punched them in the mouth. Then the wind kicked up the start of the second half, and we only had possession of the ball 3 times in the second half. Defense i guess got complacent with a 31-14 lead at the half and let that scrappy Chavez team claw a way back in.
If you were over the age of 55, you were sitting pretty until about midway through the 3rd quarter when the Fumble that turned the game occurred.
I'm sorry you almost died.
Final 31-26 Humble... a Stop on 4th and goal sealed the deal with 9 second left on the clock.
Looking forward to our next opponent, Katy or not.
Wow, reading your post I almost thought you were gonna say y'all lost. What was the final?

31-26....Humble.
It should of been a beating...but that stupid wind screwed us, as well as one very costly fumble and muffed Kick Return.

Well if we just come out in that gigantic power I formation we did against Morton we should be fine. Our backs are all too short to be affected by the wind. :D

I was at that game sitting on the fitty yardline and I stayed for the whole thing. I agree, it should have been a total beat down of Chavez and I expected such. Really thought it would be after Humble scored on the first to plays they had from scrimmage. However, I believe Humble has an issue with depth which is why they let down in the middle of the 3rd qtr. I agree with your take for the most part except the wind being such a factor. In the 3rd Chavez was going with the wind and they ran the ball quite easily. I noticed that they ran mostly to the right and tried the quick pass in the flat that actually worked more times than not. Chavez moved the ball almost at will against Humble in the second half. Now in the 4th qtr, Chavez had the wind in their face and still almost took it down and scored. Now that I think about it they did score on a pass to that 9 foot tall tight end they got so the wind wasn't such a major factor IMO. That fact that Chavez didn't get totally demoralized by Humble scoring TDs on the first two plays they had the ball is a statement in itself. A team like Chavez should have never been able to stay in the game with the Wildcats, but they did and I think that Humble got lucky tonight ... seriously, my friend. Chavez could have won, but they crumbled under the pressure in the last few ticks.

Good morning HUM398, Do you think Humble can bring it against the Tigers? I hope they can so you and I can see some good hard-hittin' football.

Tigers have to get by the spartana first...BUT if they do...and Humble gives up over 500 yards of offense again....My presidential campaign will be in turmoil!:D

Depth wasn't the problem because our defense is always rotating...Our Defensive Line rotates with the exception of DE Ronnie Hodges and DT Lamarc Strahan....Our LB's rotate, and all our DB's rotate about every 3 or 4 plays.
Three things factored in this games close call in the third.
1. Humble plays teams equally athletically a lot closer then they should, and that has been consistent for the last 10 years or so.
2. Our team has struggled all year with playing a full game. We get a lead and our kids let off the gas and play flat footed. If you noticed the first half hitting was dramatically different then the second half defensively. The exact same thing happened in our win over Aldine where we led 31-0 at the half...final score 31-21. It is identical performance by our offense and defense. We play down to the level of inferior teams in the second half when sitting on a comfortable lead.
3. We only had 3 offensive possessions the entire half....only one of them which was sustained and lost due to a fumble that i thought was questionable...but then again i was at an odd angle. And the reason why i said the wind played a factor is that our entire offense hinges on Fade routes and deep passes to either to #10, #16, or #19...We didn't run our bread and butter plays when we did have the ball and it lead to two 3 and outs. Could we have? probably...But our Coaches get pretty conservative with leads and climate change playing in as a factor. Humble should of been able to hand another 21 points on Chavez before the game was done.....
I have to give credit to Chavez....they are very talented, and have a lot of heart. That Running back was giving us fits, he was just so incredibly athletic it was ridiculous. I hope that game teaches the kids that in the playoffs....no one is going to lay down for you...its a lesson i rather they learn now and win...then later and lose.

Humble will be ready to brawl. Kids are going to excited about this match up...Some of the kid have been dying to play Katy like the Old Humble teams have in the past.
I say, strap up sir....its going to be fun (if you can pull it off today)

I don't think 500 yards in Consecutive weeks is plausible....but im ok with it as long as Humble does the out scoring.

You are more then welcome to bring them if you'd like.

Humble fans are going to have to show up in impressive numbers to neutralize that Katy Crowd.
The entire community will probably be in attendance if Atascocita loses tonight...or not.
I expect a full house though...doing it old school.

That's what I was thinking...the crowd will take away the "Home field Advantage"...or they SHOULD...might be late arriving being that it's a Friday night game.

pretty sure they will take it away.
Plus Humble has only played 3 home games all year, so Thorne at this point is more home to them then Turner.
Its a great place to play though...some people don't like it...But some love it because of the great games that have been play'd there...carries a 1970's feel with modernizations (Video Scoreboard, and Play-safe turf)

Sir, it has been "pulled off" ... and way off I might add, to the tune of 42-7 and it will be fun. Humble may be humbled after this one. However it turns out, I wish you and your boys luck. cya Friday!

It would be good to see a better crowd from Humble. It looked as if a few Humble fans didn't show up at Thorne. Am I off with that observation? I did cheer for the Wildcats while there and not becasue of the "when in Rome" thing. I want the Tigers to play the best and Humble is a prominent program.

No their were quite a few fans for the first Playoff game. Humble has never had a very good turnout for the first round. especailly because we were playing Chavez, and most people didn't even know that chavez played football.
It was one of our smallest crowds at Thorne this year though...but not bad considering it was our first round game.
Should of seen us at West brook last year...maybe 50 fans.

Humble is Humble...
They know they have to work their tails off to get a win against Katy. This could be our hardest hitting game of the year. kids should come out PUMPED.
Humble is going to be a much better football team next year with 10+ starters returning on both sides of the ball....the farther we go this year, the better for next year.

I couldn't find anyone selling programs at Thorne last night. I was trying to see how many underclassmen ya'll had starting. You're right about next year for Humble and the same for Katy. I believe we only have 4 seniors starting on D and I think as many as 4-5 underclassmen starting on the other side of the LOS as well. I feel good about our chances this year to go deep and next year, well next year should be very promising for Katy too. Again, good luck next Friday.
