I am following up on the thread I started complaining about Playoff games at Texas Stadium.
I just got off the phone with a Mr. Bruce Hardy who is the GM of Texas Stadium.
I've got to tell you he gave me reasonable explanations of why they do things the way they do.
Earlier, I spoke with the AD of my school district. Turns out TS charges less money than other stadiums in the area. SMU has been trying to attract High School games, but wants more money than Texas Stadium.
Mr. Hardy explained to me on the parking situation, and the gate situation. He told me it is simply a matter of cost. He explained that they do not make money off of high school games. He said that it costs a lot of money to hire Police officers in the parking lot. There is a lot of drinking in the parking lots. This costs a lot of money in hiring personnel. He said they open 1 gate for smaller games, and 2 gates for the larger games.
On the ins and outs policy: He explained that there is a problem, if they allow ins and outs; people will go in and out to the parking lots and drink alcohol. Mr. Hardy explained to me that as it is, a lot of phone calls have to made to parents after a kid drinks too much; and the parent wants to blame Texas Stadium for their kid being drunk. Mr. Hardy didn't say this, but implied that people who drink too much greatly affect the cost of all events at a Sports/entertainment venue. I also remember hearing something similiar to this from someone who I used to know that ran security at Reunion arena several years ago. Another problem is people will sell their ticket stubs to people who coming to watch the new game.
Mr. Hardy was really wanting me to know that he cares about young people, not just the players; but the band, drill team, cheer leaders etc. Texas Stadium does not make any money off these events, and if anything it costs money. Texas Stadium has charged the same amount for the last 25 years, and has not raised their price. He also wanted me to know that Jerrry Jones cares about young people, and wants playing in Texas Stadium to be a great experience for the everyone involved. He pointed out that they have to turn away quite a few people who want to use Texas stadium for high school games. He also explained to me that they spend a lot of their own money on things such as personalized name plates for the players in the locker room, and other extras for players that the fans do not see.
On bringing in your own food, he explained that a lot of this is a post 911 security issue, and it costs enough money searching people as they enter the stadium.
I came off the phone call with a new appreciation for what goes on, and why things are the way they are. On some of the things I don't like, I will just grin and bear it; and appreciate what we have. I thought it was only fair I posted this in light of my other post complaining about what goes on at Texas Stadium during the playoff games.
Thank You for reading.

Still doesn't explain why they charge a bazillion dollars for super bowl nachos... Even if they have to offset costs, 8 bucks is a little pricey.

I appreciate your efforts. I'm ok with everything you've said here, except one:
All they have to do is stamp the hands of people leaving and that be how people get back in. Not by using ticket stubs.
I don't buy the "drinking in the parking lot" story for HS games. Is there some, yes. Is it anywhere near the problem it is a pro games, no way.
Thanks again.

WOW!... that's really a nice gesture for the kids.
Wonder what will change when they start playing in the new stadium... Jerry may start seeing $$$$.... We shall see..

The Cowboys actually took that idea from Nelson Moore and Hoot Smith that helped plan out Pennington Field. It was Bookout and Nelson that started putting name plates on the lockers of the kids at Pennington, and then they started doing that at Texas Stadium years later....by suggestion. Coach Lineweaver was talking about it in the meeting on Monday.

You stole my thought, I wonder what happens next year... One of the main reasons Texas Staduim is used, is it's location.... In a lot of cases it is a neutral location. this is not the case in Arlington.
Its going to be interesting next year for sure.

Scout posted something on another thread about the anticipated cost of going to Jerrys world. He was close, it will be way more expensive than TS. My guess is the cost will increase to a point where more games will be played somewhere else. In reference to the TS Directors statment of 'TS charging less than other stadiums',,,that won't be the case anymore.
In reference to THSbands comment on drinking in the parking lot. Yep it's students and lot's of them do it. Seen it, had to deal with it.
Beer bottles all over the place, drunk kids peeing in next to cars. Not to be confused with FF, he reuses his beer can and put's it in a trash can. Classy guy that FF!!!!!!!
I get caught with a pack of sunflower seeds, he get's in with a 24 pack...amazing!

Also, at quite a few high school games; after the game, I find beer cans and bottles in the bed of my truck. Last JV game I went to there were some 40s left in the bed of my truck. It does go on. Most of the kids are too clever for the rest of us to notice.

I've always wondered why they don't have HS PO games at the Cotton Bowl. Or do they? Seems like Dallas is always trying to get more college games there to help with the cost of ownership. Maybe they should look at hosting HS PO games.

I buy in to everything but:
On bringing in your own food, he explained that a lot of this is a post 911 security issue, and it costs enough money searching people as they enter the stadium.
TS searched bags before 9/11 in the name of security but IMO to search for contraband food. One year (before 9/11) I sacrificed a small bag of chips to the trash can in front of the security guards in hopes they wouldn't search further and find the Subway ham sandwiches buried in the bottom of my bag. IT WORKED!! Since 9/11 the security guards have the right to search each bag thoroughly for whatever.
I have learned how to sneak in food now (please no moral judgements) and I haven't gotten caught, so far.

Lots of great HS games at the Cotton Bowl over the years. I think the Cotton Bowl officials dont go after the high schools so they can protect thier grass for the three games they have thare every year.

Yeh, probably. What a shame though. I think it would mean just as much to the kids to play there as TS. Think of all the historic pro and college games that have been played at the Cotton Bowl. And for a kid to get to play on that field...it would be priceless.

How can we complain about food prices when you get 4 outstanding games for ten bucks? Factor the price of admission of these four games each at a different stadium, plus gas to travel to four different stadiums (we won't factor in the travel time), plus food at any other stadium and I dare say TX Stadium is a better deal. Plus your in a seat with a back rest versus a bench seat.

Good analysis, only problem with the seats is you're on top of the row in front of you.

Great post. Kudos for challenging the system and double kudos for being a standup guy for posting this.
I like that the players come first. My biggest argument for games at TS is that many of the players want that chance. Do the players get to keep the name plates? Heck, sure they do. Kick@$$! :notworthy
So will we be playing high school football palyoffs in the new stadium in Arlington? Please say yes.

The plates are theirs to keep. I bet we will be there next year...yes. The Kids and coaches will probably demand it. It's an opportunity of a lifetime. Who would want to go to anywhere besides the largest domed room in the world.

As long as your ISD keeps Jerry's charges in their budget, you can play at the big house.
Or if you are the DISD, what budget?:D

I'm sure some assistant coach can just charge it on the credit card he was given when he also got his fake social security number.

Here's the article that the DMN ran this morning. I posted it.
The hits keep coming for the DISD. Is there nothing they can do right?
