Let's see what everyone comes up with as a ranking for R3 D2. I think this would be cool with all regions and divisions but don't know enough about the others to care. So here is what I have:

1 Katy
2 Beaumont West Brook
3 Humble
4 Strake Jesuit
5 Katy Mayde Creek
6 Houston Madison
7 Dickinson
8 Clear Brook
9 FB Travis
10 Humble Atascocita
11 Houston Chavez
12 La Porte
13 FB Marshall
14 Houston Stratford
15 PA Memorial
16 Pasadena Memorial

Agreed. You can take the rest of teams after Strake, throw them in a hat and pick one. Mediocrity reigns supreme in R3D2.

Since I picked Madison to beat SJ, I guess I'd rank them 4th. It also wouldn't surprise me if Chavez gives Humble a decent game.

Overall, pretty weak bracket

As weak as this bracket seems to be, I dont think it's gonna be a cake walk for anybody. There doesn't appear to be a clear cut favorite.

i had the...ahem....privilege? of seeing Houston Chavez vs. Houston Westside.

Are all those teams honestly ranked below Chavez?

I honestly didnt think it was possible for a varsity squad to be that terrible.....

I could have made a spot on their varsity team

Your Top 4 are pretty good although id flip Humble and SJ. Mayde Creek is definently not worthy of being 5th though. I'm hoping for a Katy vs SJ regional final, but Westbrook will definitely have something to say about that.

It's an awful Region this year with Katy maybe not winning out. If that is the case, R4 has a free ride to State in D2.

My apologies to fans of #5 thru #16. I was not trying to debase ya'll it's just me saying..........we(R3-D2) kinda s*u*ck this year.

Not just talking about R3, but this is solid evidence that we just don't care enough about football in Houston when compared to other areas of the state. We're behind in all aspects. Not the least of which, community support.

Not saying they're all like that. Katy is obviously one of the very few exceptions. Go to a game involving a HISD school and you'll know what I mean.

even in the burbs. In 2006 I went to both the TW and CP playoff games on back to back days. One game was at Turner and the other at Moorehead. Both games had disappointing crowds on both sides. They were playing Westfield and KF respectively. All 4 schools within what? 20 minutes drive of the 2 stadiums? Cy Falls made the State Finals that year and hardly anybody showed up for the game in San Antonio.

Sorry, my bad. I think it was your use of community support. Guess I wasn't connecting or associating community with big city schools.;)
I have gone to others schools' games. I agree support could be better for a lot of teams, though not just in R3.:(

Hey the good thing for R4 and the rest of the state will be that R3 will be untested and has no chance of winning state (see Katy 07). You can't pick where you go so I am going to say that I am very glad Katy is right where we are. For the team from R3 to win state they will have to beat a very good team from R4 and then the rep from R1 or R2 so we will know if R3 is deserving in the end.

Madison is the same way... But they are by far the loudest band I have ever heard... I mean Ive seen bands of near 200 hundred that arent that loud... Its insane... But then again thats their whole goal... They dont try to sound good and they dont care... But its pretty cool

D1 R3 is loaded. Whoever wins this bracket will have to really battle. Looking foward to the probable North Shore vs Hightower 2nd round game.

Ya... NS should be the favorite... And if they get through Deer Park, Hightower, Cinco/Ike, Mem/Lamar/Pearland, and then a good SA team... They deserve every bit of it... thats scary - I mean they dont even get an easy Rd 1 game

After working on the previews just posted...this bracket may be the worst in overall quality that I can remember.

The fact that this year's Katy team is among the few favorites to win the region is proof positive that it's weak. By high school standards we're a good team; by Katy standards it's hard to watch. We're extremely vulnerable to a team with a combination of a good passing attack and a good run defense. West Brook looks capable, but the blow out loss to NS makes them suspect defensively. Strake is probably fundamentally sound (I haven't seen any of these teams). We could fumble the game away to a team of their caliber. Madison's win over Lamar gives them a shot, but it's hard to judge based on the quality of the rest of their competition. Travis has a nice record but IMO that district still has to show me. Dickinson, hot for a while, but on a back slide. Who knows though...maybe Pflugerville will show up and surprise everybody.

I'm not making any excuses, cause "yes"we did get blown out. But dont let the score fool you. We played a pretty good game against the #2 ranked team. It's just that when you turn the ball over 7 times against a team that good, and you leave them with a short field, a lopsided loss is almost inevitable. We WILL NOT turn the ball over like we did in the NS game. Take the TO's away, and the score would have been alot closer. I'm hoping we suprise a few of the naysayers out there, and make a good run at it. We might not get past the first round, but it wont be for a lack of trying.
