View Full Version : Can anyone tell me what happened to Texas today?

Even though Texas managed to pull a win, they really didn't play like they have been. Young had sacks & interceptions, and the defense was not up to par. Does anyone know why they didn't play well today?

what happened is called a rivalry......go look up what it means A&M played texas as hard as i thought they would.
Rivalry games.....through out the numbers. Lets just hope UCLA drinks the same formula A&M did. I want to see how the media handles this after "Praising" USC and Bush on there 50-42 home win over Fresno St.

It is a rivalry game.
Bottom line is that Vince played his worst game of the year and probably the worst game in his last 17 games, but Texas still managed to win. That will show you just how good the rest of the team is.
I think a lot of props need to go to Stephen McGee and the way he played. I may get shot by the Lufkin fans, but if Reggie McNeal plays this game, aggy doesnt even make it a game. McGee kept aggy in the game. Great job by that young man.
A win is a win and that is all that matters.

That was an intense game. Glad the Horns pulled it out...
Stephen McGee is going to be a great QB. He ran that option perfect every time, and he will only get better with more experience. Not too shabby for a first start.

Texas played their worst game of the year and still put 40 on the Aggies at Kyle Field to win the game, but make no mistake, that was a piss poor performance.
That was an embarrasing effort all the way around...I'm glad they got that out of their system.
I have to give an F- to both the offensive and defensive coordinators. With two weeks to prepare against the nation's worst passing defense, they devised a gameplan that produced less than 200 yards through the air. Against a team missing its top two rushers, they allowed over 300 yards on the ground. Terrible.
Major props to the Lane Train and to Stephen McGee...they played their ***** off.

I think all this was a good thing for Texas. I think and hope that the aggy game serves as a bit of a wakeup call. Hopefully it deflated a few egos that might have been getting out of hand. It showed us all that Texas can't just show up and expect the win... they have to earn it. Texas had to fight for this win today and that is a good thing.
This game also exposed some weak spots. This too is a good thing. I would rather have aggy expose them now rather than USC in January. The coaches and team can look at the film, see what they did wrong and fix the problem. This coaching staff has really stepped it up this year and I think they will get things fixed before next week.
You have to keep in mind though that Vince just flat had a bad game... and Texas STILL scored 40. If Vince has a game that is anywhere near normal, Texas scores 55+ with ease. I wouldnt expect another bad game from #10.

You are right when somebody says something that ******** it deserves a response. But to tell you the truth i am not surprised considering the source!! Horrible Reggie!! Shame on him for basically shattering every single a&m qb record in aggy history the loser!! Yeah Reggie has 9 int's this year ( less then Young again) after throwing 3 last year and being in the top 5 in the nation in qb rating. He is terrible!! LOL
I guess Reggie should have had more 5-16 day's for 60 yards like Mcgee had today?? LOL I know Reggie would not have been capable of hitting those holes with his 4.3 speed. Here is the fact's, UT did not respect Mcgee's running abilities so they were going after Lane and the aggy running backs and it came back to haunt them because he does have some skills running the ball. Simple as that. Other then that Mcgee was very mediocre as a passer. Just a FYI!! A&m had a top 15 ranked offense in the nation coming into this game while the defense was ranked 112 out of 117!! You do the math?? The aggy defense played 80 times better then they have all year but it had to be Mcgee.
Oh typical UT fan's. Blame the coach!! LOL It could never be the perfect players. I just thought it was funny looking at Mack's record compared the UT coaches record's before he got there. But i promise you this, If UT does not win the NC it will be all his fault.
By the way jtk, That was far from Vince's worse game!! Far!! I remember some OU games where he was 100 times as bad. He is human just like Reggie is. I remember when many UT fans were ready to yank him last year before he turned it around. Do you have amnesia??

stephen mcgee did a very good job today...i actually sold my student ticket to the game because i was afraid of a blow out and now i regret it because it turned out to be a pretty good game. i would have liked to see how reggie would have performed against UT...i think that its funny that the back up qb could out perform him, i don't know how serious his injury was, is it possible he sat out because he was afraid of embarrassment. i'm an Aggie but i'm not naive to how good a football team UT is. and i think comparatively to our other games this season we played very well against the #2 team in the nation. hopefully we might have a chance in the next couple years to win some games with mcgee since he still has a couple of years left.

You are an embarrassment!! Reggie shattered about every gay *** Aggy qb record in the 100 plus years of faggy football and he you have the nerve to rag on him like that?? Typical aggy with no clue about football!! Did you look at Mcgee's passing stats today or did you miss that part?? I am sure the results had nothing to do with the god awful faggy defense playing 200 times better then they usually do?? Go kiss your geeky girl and stick your butt in the air while listening to the commands of your gay guy cheerleader's because aggy came close today, but please enjoy the bowls from the couch. My god!! SLC could make it to a bowl the way it is now?? LOL Oh but i forgot it was all reggie's fault it had nothing to do with the worst freaking defense in America!! At least you are a SLC fan!!

Hey, do yall realize Lane almost had more passing yards then Mcgee and Lane had 1 more passing td then Mcgee today?? And yall are ready to name him Montana in aggy land!! He was something like 9 for 24 for 68 yards passing with 0 td's and 1 int. Go Montana go!! If you think this guy will be running with that kind of success with no passing game in the future you aggy fan's need counseling or you need to take football 101 class ASAP!!

He is a freshman in his first start, he has the mechanics to be a good QB not another Reggie, but he needs an injury free supporting cast and a consistent QB coach and offensive coordinator. Unfortunately Reggie did not have that benefit, I feel for him because I thought he was going to out perform other college QB’s during his career. I wanted him to do well.

I know you like Reggie and all, but McGee is the reason aggy was able to keep this thing close. No, he didn’t throw the ball well at all, but that is something that will come in time. McGee did what he needed to do to try and win. You just cant get into a shootout with Texas. Even when Texas is playing their worst game of the year, they are still more dangerous than any other offense in the Big XII or most of the nation for that matter.
With Reggie, aggy doesn’t even come close. McGee was more comfortable running the option and he proved to be a helluva lot tougher than Reggie. He also demonstrated great leadership and the team rallied around him. I'm not trying to knock Reggie... but this is the best thing that could have happened to aggy. I think McNeal gave up on the coaches, the coaches gave up on him as did some of the team. McGee united them in a way they have been untied all year.

I actually gotta agree with what you said about McGee.....kid has a fighting spirit. I remember one play about three whorns sandwiched him, he got straight back up and got in their faces. I'm kinda excited to see what McGee can do for the Aggies in the future.

Yeah, McGee doesnt have that God given talent that McNeal has (though the kid is talented), but he just ran that offense so well. If he learns how to throw, he could be very good.

Lord please help jtk with his severe football homerisim blindess i beg you!! ;) The guy ran the option better then Reggie yet Reggie is one of the top rushing qb's in the nation every year?? Please exand your wacky position?? I do not know why i bother arguing with you i really do not?? But i sometimes have to reply when you make comments from left field. So do you want to wager that McGee will have more career passing and rushing yards then Mcneil before his career ends?? Come on man lets wager?? Mcgee is going to be a good qb and he seems to be a tough competitor but come on?? The guy had about 60 yards passing with 1 int and 0 td's give me a dang break. Oh yeah he is a freshmen?? But wait Mcneil beat #1 OU as a freshmen year in one of his first games!! ( That same OU team beat UT by 150!!) Do not tell me the UT defense would not have been keying on Mcneil as a runner more then McGee either?? I guess UT needs to put the back up in for Young after his bad day vs the worse passing defense in the nation?? No!! i am not that blind with Lufkin Panther homerisim.

pack, you are obviously blinded by your Lufkin homerism and that's cool. Everybody else saw the truth and that is all that matters. McNeal in his entire career vs. Texas rushed for a total of 38 yards and 1 TD. McGee in his first game against Texas and the best defense Texas has had in some time, rushed for 108 yards and 2 TDs. That just about says it all.

You are right I should listen to you jtk what was i thinking?? LOL What a player has done vs UT is key to what their future holds. Hell, Jason White has to be all pro in the NFL by now correct?? Considering what he did to UT he has to be a stud in the NFL correct?? Do you get dumber by the second or do you have homerisim brain damage??
Wait you are correct?? Jason did it with his arm not his legs so that explains everything?? McGee looked good yesterday. My only question is how in the heck do you not key on McGee when Lane is the only RB in the back field. Lanes only going to hurt you between the tackles. 1st key is to stop the dive. 2nd QB, & 3rd pitch man. You've got a back up QB & RB doing that toTexas D.

I wouldn't say Vince played horribly...his O line left him out to dry so many times yet he still was able to keep from being sacked several times. His passes were on target, but aggy secondary was playing really well and the recievers just weren't catching what was given to them.

pack0808,
Please stop typing "LOL" and "LMAO." You look like a 13 year old girl on AIM. And while you're at it, quit using so many exclamation marks. Also, question marks at the end of declarative sentences are bad for your health.
This entire discussion was McGee gave aggy a better shot today than would have Reggie McFetal. I agree with this 100%. How do you slow down Texas' offense? Keep them off the field. McGee ran that option a lot better than McNeal ever did. He's got the timing down. He knows when to pitch it. Doesn't pitch early, doesn't pitch too late. Even my aggy friend who is a coach said the exact same thing.
McNeal would start forcing throws. He'd be playing into our D's strength...the secondary. More throws = more INTs or 3-and-outs.
Not to mention the intangibles. McNeal failed against Texas. He will finish his career winless against the Longhorns. I'll never forget last year when he chose to curl up in the fetal position instead of taking on DJ Johnson. Great leader. McGee, on the other hand, ran head on into some big time licks. He got up and ran the next play. The team rallied around him. The team respects a gutsy performance like that.
But who cares? aggy lost. no bowl game. 6 in a row. poooooor aggiiieeeesss

I just wish you would understand what I was trying to say. I dislike aggy, but that dislike does not extend to McNeal or a lot of other players (Jolly can kiss my ***). I have tried for a long time now to praise McNeal as much as possible. I like the kid and wish him luck. I honestly believe aggy set him back in his overall development, but I do believe he has the tools to overcome. I always have, and continue to wish him nothing but the best. Now that his college career is done, I will follow him a little closer and cheer a little harder for him.
What I was trying to say is that McGee was at the right place at the right time. I don't expect him to duplicate his performance against top competition. McGee, for whatever the reason, fits what the coaches are doing just a little bit better... at least for this one game. The whole thing is kind of ironic because Fran and Co. want to run the ball with a lot of option and stuff. We all know McNeal is far an away the better athlete, but something was clicking with #15 today. I was impressed. If he does it again, I will be shocked.

Kyle Field is one of the the hardest stadiums in the country to go play in. Plus, I think they had their 4th largest crowd ever (not bad).
Plus, A&M "showed up" to play bigtime (trying to get that Bowl game) and Texas was just flat.
McGee was also a huge difference maker for A&M. He ran that option offense to perfection. I dont think Leinhart (USC) cant even run 5 steps without falling down so he aint no McGee with his legs.

I guess I can jump in here.
Texas struggled big time with the freakin' option. McGee made several outstanding plays and took some huge hits...am I ready to say he is
better than Reggie. NO WAY IN HELL...It was one game...the irony in all of
this is that aggy is probably saying the same things this morning...that they were saying about Reggie after the OU game a few years ago...Remember?
I say tap the brakes a bit aggy...calm down...
Javorskie had a great game. It was very difficult for me to root against him...I yelled for that guy for so long when he played for Lufkin...and now that he is a sworn enemy...it is tough. That TD pass was the ugliest thing I have seen in years...Reminded me of the old Robert Newhouse days...when he would shotput passes to Drew Pearson..hahahaha..but hey it worked.
What I love the most about all of this is..............last week when USC struggled against Fresno St. all of the media praised them...saying..."Good teams find a way to win..."
Now when the Horns stumble a bit...it's "Well the Texas defense is suspect...and USC is licking their chops"
Whatever........
Lastly....did in anyone else see Fran crying to the refs after the excessive celebration call? I hit rewind about 50 times and read his lips...He was saying..."Well they do the this (and showed the Hook 'em sign) that's a celebration...that should be a penalty too" Give me a break Fran...pooooooooooooor agggy.

Alright man i understand what you are saying. I need to quit coming in here when i have had a few because i am just mean at times. ;) As scarface would say, forget about it. Time to bust out the rain suit and sit in a the rain all day. What fun! But hopefully it will be worth it?? Sorry about being a jerk last night i just get caught up arguing for the Lufkin boys sometimes. Wide i guess you are not coming right?? Hopefully i will see you next week at the Lufkin vs Cove game.

I just wish you would understand what I was trying to say. I dislike aggy, but that dislike does not extend to McNeal or a lot of other players (Jolly can kiss my ***)..... I don't expect him to duplicate his performance against top competition. McGee, for whatever the reason, fits what the coaches are doing just a little bit better... at least for this one game.... If he does it again, I will be shocked.....
Kinda interesting, a lot of your UT counterparts are comparing McGee to Vince Young in regards to leadership, mental and physical toughness, strong arm, and desire to win. They are even comparing this game to similar UT games where Vince didn't have a great day throwing the ball but used his other tools and heart to get the team to rally and play. But then again, a lot of UT fans are saying that this was just a one hit wonder and it will never happen again (see above for yours). A lot of UT fans just a couple of years ago defended Vince when people made statements just like the one you just made. So I'm just kinda interested in knowing why this is different from Vince to McGee?

By the way, why do you dislike Jolly so much? That guy is a heck of a player and had improved with every down this year. Did he talk some smack or something this year that I didn't see or hear?

Couldn't make it today Pack0808...maybe you guys will be in Waco next week and we can see another game together. Gotta get rid of S. Garland first...enjoy the rain...I'm going to listen on the internet. If it breaks up too much I might give you a call at halftime for an update.

"What I love the most about all of this is..............last week when USC struggled against Fresno St. all of the media praised them...saying..."Good teams find a way to win..."
Now when the Horns stumble a bit...it's "Well the Texas defense is suspect...and USC is licking their chops"
Whatever........"
USC rallied to beat the #16 team in the nation. Texas rallied to beat a team that went into that game as a 26-point home dog in a rivalry game with most people thinking the coach was a lame duck. Texas' vaunted defense gave up 29 points to a team that couldn't throw a pass to save its life. If I were a sip fan, and thank Jesus in heaven I'm not, I'd be wetting my pants thinking about Leinhart and Bush lining up against me.

Actually Aggy has a top 30 scoring offense, so they do score points during the game, its just the defense gives up so many points its not enough to win.

2) pack must be drunk or under the influence of something. No respectable man would ever seriously type like that.
3) ***** envy is terrible.

Yeah whats the deal with the media always hating on Texas???
V has a huge game against Oklahoma State, leading a comeback and gaining over 500 all purpose yards to blow out a team they were loosing to at half...
Reggie Bush has 500 all purpose yards, including kick off and punt returns (woopee...) and suddenly he's god??? Give me a break.
Reggie also was held to under 100 yards rushing in 3 games this season, and no one even notices cuz the other heisman canidate (leinart) pulls out the W. The truth of the matter is that Vincent Young deseves the heisman for being not only a runner, but also for opening up the entire offense.
Longhorns are gonna beat Colorado or Iowa State to win the Big XII and then blow out USC in the Rose Bowl either way.

Do you have amnesia??
never speak ill of mack brown, if you want to take shots at coaches why don't you start with your dear own francy, who has done less with more talent than has ever come through a&m.5-6!?! HE SHOULD HAVE A BIGXII TITLE WITH THE RECRUITS HE HAS THERE! yeah shyadap.

Sure I can see #1. I'm just going to leave #2 alone.
But as far as #3, why do some UT fans always type this envy thing? I mean honestly, what is your obsession with this saying? I have heard it was Rome's comments and UT fans adopted it. Rome never said that, it's an urban legend. But I see it on several message boards every year. But seriously, what is that obsession about?

How am I a homer when i am not an aggy fan dip---?
I called you a homer because of your Lufkin blinders. It had nothing to do with aggy. Genius.
and LOL LMAO!! I was cheering for UT to win!! Bowie the frreakingpahtetic dog is talking smack to me that is just funny. LOL LMAO LOL LMAO Oh i am doing it again it must be my 13 year old girl in me. At least Reggie beat a top 10 OU team Bowiedawggy!! LOL LMAO LOL LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're a moron.
I am really proud of the team rallying around his 68 yards passing!! egads einstein. What is this the OU Sooners of 84 in the wishbone??
Results speak for themselves. He kept aggy closer to Texas than Reggie McFetal has his entire career. Argue with that.
Sounds like you have a crush on 13 year old girls considering your fixation with them on 2 straight post's. Go on pervy!! I mean dawgy!! LOL LMAO LOL LMAO LOL LOL LOL LOL LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh i better stop i might turn him on!!
You're still a moron.
I've met Wide. He's a cool guy. He mentioned you were his friend. That's nice, but you're still a moron. I called you a homer and a 13 year old girl because you talk like one. Sorry if you consider that "name calling." You're the one who started calling people retards.

The reason some Aggies have been ragging on Reggie is because he really would have played badly in that game (in my opinion). THe team had lost its confidence in him. They all still respect McGee for his leadership abilities. Attitude goes a long way, so maybe you should check yours.
I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and attribute your overall jackassedness to drunkeness...you are welcome.

Everybody also didnt see why Leone got the "excessive celebration" unless they were really looking hard. The kid (JUMPED INTO THE STANDS) which will get you called everytime.
Your right though.. USC has a tough game and the national people say, "it just shows how good a team they are to win." Texas plays a "so so" game and it shows alot of questions about the team and blah blah blah...

I was wondering the samething. Vince Young has a huge (500 yd day) as a QB (team leader) and so so.
Reggie Bush has a (500 yd day) and his the second coming of Jesus. Go figure ?????

USC doesnt run the option... Leinhart can even freaking run 5 feet without falling down. If USC ran the option (like Aggy) I would be worried some.

pack, you are obviously blinded by your Lufkin homerism and that's cool.
I dont really want to get into it.. but Reggie McNeal doesnt really like running the option. He's timid about about doing it.
McGee is so hardheaded that it's freaking crazy and he can run that option offense very good.
