SLC 45 Lewisville 10

Lewisville had several turnovers in the first few minutes and was never really in this game. At times this game looked more like a scrimmage than a week 10 game. PLease share your thoughts on this game.

Non-football observations:

- The SLC attendance was light last night.
- In the 3rd qtr I looked at the L'ville side and I thought we had more people at the 15A Dragon games 30 years ago.
- I sat in the general admission seats in the first half and the guy next to me was actually eating bait. My son and I ate a few SL Feedstore BBQ sandwitches. I mean, this is Texas, right?
- We moved over and sat with the yawners at the 50 yard line for the second half ... lots of no shows. Maybe it was too cold or there was something on Home and Garden TV.

I look at last nite and think, how do we score 45 and not play all that well? Lewisville had to be a Jekyl and Hide team. (Held Hebron to 10?) My take-aways...

* ZB had a sweet catch near midfield and our sideline that showed what type of receiver he's become. I think Josh Pop can get seperation from defender deep, but David P has to learn to trust it.

* We will see more Jackson and Brayden at the tackle spot next week. That's a great alternative use of their quickness, strength and talent and I can't imagine the coaches didn't like what they saw.

* From my angle, it certainly appeared the Farmer QB INTENTIONALLY bounced the ball to his WR on the crazy flea-flicker TD. When do you practice that??

* Great to see all the players rotating in at games end. That's the way it should be...

* ...I don't think anyone would question why I coined DS "The Library" after last nite. Not sure I could blame the folks, actually. Game played like a scrimmage at times.

That's all for now....

i believe the first use of this play was to beat tu by ed hargett at tamu in the 60s. it is a beautiful thing to see. the acting job selling the disgust with the poor pass and then the bomb drops.

Can't say that I've ever seen the coin toss, SLC banner run through and alma mater all occur simultaneously.

Perhaps the senior night recognition ceremonies should start 45 minutes before game time - not 30.

This was not much of a game. Should have been 75-10. D-line looks better. O-line still looks confused, not dominate and no nastiness! Secondary is improving, but Lewisville could not pass! We have a receiver (Popkin) who is consistantly open deep. We underthrow the ball. If we would even overthrow him a few times it would still stretch the defense. Williamson's one pass was a thing of beauty!
Tommy's long run is long overdue! Nathan looked good!

After the 1st game of the year against GP I knew it was going to be a long year for us.
Glad the season is finally over as it was one of the more frustrating seaons to watch.
Glad the kids never gave up and hopefully they'll work hard this off-season.
Bring on Basketball, thats been our sport lately anyway.

The tough start to the game last night for Lewisville kind of set the tone for a strange night. Lots of dropped balls by the Dragons, which we hadn't seen in a while. My 5 highlights were:
1. watching "Touchdown Tommy" (as the radio guys call him) run up the gut for 63 yards (have seen that against us too much of late)
2. seeing the Seniors all get in the game and contributing, especially Johnnie Nathan with nearly 100 yards.
3. Kyle Williamson going 1 for 1 with a 21 yard TD. He will push DP bigtime.
4. and Brett Ringer on receiving end for the TD. (He works so hard and he beat himself up over that key drop last week)
5. defense was back (hope they stay with us for 6 more games!)

Convincing win Dragons.

Maybe that's because for all intents and purposes it WAS a scrimmage......

By halftime, though, they did have enough sense to change over the bait shop to hot chocolate!! :)

I think you're right on KW, the QB battle next spring/summer should be fun to watch.

A highlight for me last night was to see how successful Richards and Burnet were when they lined up inside at DT. I think the coaches may have hit upon something that will help against teams with big OLs......

+1

I thought it was interesting that the first play of the game Jackson lined up at DT and Ben Perry was the right DE. Since that play led to the fumble in the end zone, maybe it's a good luck formation and should be repeated more often :)

KW sure does have a sweet touch on the ball. I wish he and DP would have rotated more the past couple of games because it seems he has a slight better touch on the long ball. I'd have like to see if my theory would hold true in the heat of the battle.

Yep and yep. Dp has done a great job, but KW does throw a very catchable ball. Nice problem to have.

Also, when it was 21-0 it looked like they were going to put KW in for a series running the 2 min O and then when Lville scored it looked like they changed their mind. This is just what it looked like from my perch in the library.

I agree with the points you have made. Let me add my own observations. I agree that the Dragons scored 45 points and did not play all that well. The Defense played much better, but you have to factor in the quality of the opponents, who still managed to gash the Defense for a few big rushing plays. However, Lewisville is one of the poorest teams I have seen a long time. Turning over their first four possessions due to the most elementary of errors is indicative of a poorly coached and poorly prepared team.

The 45 points scored by Carroll should not disguise a sub-par performance by the Offense. Far too many low passes and far too many passes dropped by the WRs and the QB opting to run as first choice, rather than staying in the pocket to find a WR. The Dragons cannot afford to be so careless in the play-offs where every possession is going to critical to winning the game and mistakes punished by the opposition.

I also agree the Farmer QB intentionally bounced the ball to his WR on the flea-flicker TD – it had the desired effect as the Dragon defense stood still as if the play was over. Coaching Lesson – Play to the whistle.

Finally, 100% right on with the Library comment. Even at the start of the game the season ticket seats were no more that a quarter filled. Who are these people that buy season tickets and do not show up for the game, not just this game but most home games. At the end of the game you could almost count the Carroll fans on one hand. We need to be careful in boasting about the great Carroll fans and support – it was not there last night in numbers or sound.

Anybody remember when the Aggies did that against Texas? I do....
Sorry, I see someone else already caught this.

Not much to say, all been said re: Nathan, AVers, it was good to see #40 get some yards as well. KW's pass was sweet I agree. I wasn't able to get in until the second half, but in tha thalf I thought DP's passing looked much improved.

On the Colleyville.....

The problem with us complaining about attendance and noise on this site is that we're preaching to the choir. We need to somehow get out to the community the importance of passing along your tickets if you can't make the game. I'm sure there are a lot of young, enthusiastic people in Southlake who would love the opportunity to sit in the comfy seats and make some noise. Last night you could hear someone thinking about dropping a pin. Maybe someone could talk to Roxanne and Tommy about putting their name on some really loud stuff rather than flags. Remember the thunder sticks? Or did we ban them?

On to the play-offs where I know the crowd will be big and boisterous...

QB throws a sideline pass behind the LOS. He purposely throws it into the ground so that it will one hop to the "receiver". It is a backward pass but the DBs don't know that and think its an incomplete forward pass. They relax thinking it's an incompletion and get burned as the play continues and the "receiver" now become the passer.

Maybe one of the x's & o's guys can describe it accurately, but from a fan's view........The QB bounces a lateral pass to the outside WR, who fields it on one hop and then throws it downfield to the outside WR from the other side of the formation. The Dragon defense was caught momentarily flat footed because it looked like an incomplete pass. As it was, the safety still almost caught up and just missed knocking down the pass and making the tackle.

Oak, it's the kind of play that if SLC runs it, we all head to the LaCrosse field for the rest of our life, no disrespect to the LaCrossers... imaginitive, ? yes

We have a bunch of Dragons coming over for some bleaching tomorrow. I'm using the time to remind them of the history of the program.

The Tradition will be protected...
