Odessa Permian won District 2-5A tonight by defeating Midland High. They advance to the playoffs with a 10-0 record and will play El Paso Eldorado at 7pm CST next Friday night at Odessa's Ratliff Stadium.

I think in 89 we bareley beat lee 17-13 .....heck abilene won 20-10 tonight trinity won 30-20 playing lesser teams than the bulldogs...i know we got to tighten up and play inspired again, and you know what i believe we will.

I've noticed the past 3 games or so you guys are starting off really slow. Did something change?

We have had some (4) starters out for a few weeks and last night was their first game back in the saddle. Was that the reason for the slow start? I couldn't say for sure. Only that last night was a little closer than expected after seeing OHS dismantle Midland the week before.

But that season is done and now onto the season that counts!! GO MOJO!!

I was at that game in 89. Lee was strong like bull that year. That's the game Steve Womack hurt his neck and all but ended his football career. He left numerous D1 offers behind from that injury. Not so sure the 89 Lee team is a good comparison to a 2008 Midland High team.

EVERY team WE play in our district sees themselves this way...but Midland High probably is the most legitimate to claim it this year, with only one other district loss (to a resurgent OHS team) on the season..


I just mean that Bell is the only constant team in our district. I am guessing your school is the same.....but Trinity used to be Bell until they split in '68. I just meant that I think Bell is a very good team, and def not a lesser caliber team team. Like I said good luck to you guys, I hope you are successful in the coming weeks.

yeah I know womacks my cousin, he showed alot of heart in the playoffs,,,we did have (some) relatively close games that year also .also in 91 we only beat San Angelo 21-15 and Tascosa 22-9,,this team is as capable but do they have the will of the greats....I hope so.......

Steve is your cousin? Wow! Small world............. He was a good friend. I remember that hit he put on the guy from Marshall in the 89 state semi's. He crushed that poor kid. "The shot heard 'round Texas" Dang, it was so cold that day. I froze my :Censor: off in Texas Stadium. But it was well worth it. He took some serious risks just playing after that Lee game. Haven't seen him in a few years. I was coaching in Odessa back in 1998-2000 and he was still there at that time. Is he still on Odessa?

Womack is in Odessa, and runs a place called Fit Zone. He also runs a boot camp during the summer.

yeah .. our grandpa's were brothers and moved to odessa together, I moved away in ninth grade (but mojo is deep in my heart)I was proud of mojo and womack that year, he did mojo and the family proud...I went on to play at Sam Houston,and played against air mcnair, but that doesn't heal the wound for not being able to play with Womack ,and Mannix and the gang.. He's doing what he loves helping get the players ready during the offseason at his gym.
