Well it sounds like most of us have had enough trash talk for now. I saw that both teams have fans that love them and will be there to support them. This is an awesome thing! I know it will be a tough game between 2 good teams that deserve to be there. It's really sad that one of the teams will not move on. Either way, good luck to all. There's nothing like Texas High School Football! Thanks to all the fans of Texas. Go Mighty Dawgs & Owls.

Good one...nt :p
Both teams have claimed pretty good team speed.
Garland's passing is not our #1 weapon, but we can keep the safties honest, how is Cove's passing game
Our running offense helps us control the clock...can Cove score fast?
Garland has battled back before many times this season, how is Cove when they are behind?

well cove wont just sit there and pick u apart with our passing game....we like throwing the deep ball with fade routes and everything
cove can score really fast....versus harker heights we scored 21 points on 3 minutes
vs. Judson we were down 19-13 with a minute left and drove and won the game 20-19 with 4 seconds left....well in the waco game we werent really behind but handled the pressure great in the 3OT win....harker heights we were down by three headed into the fourth quarter and scored 21 points in 3 mins to take a 35-20 win....
overall, IMO, we have to get penetration from the dline cause garlands oline comes off the ball really low and hard....#40 is a hard nosed RB and a good runner....i think its up to the defense to get off the field in tough situations....but cove wins 28-14 IMO

Cove runs the ball well. The RB and QB are both very fast. Cove's QB can throw also. 2TD's last week came off of long TD passes. Cove's secondary can play anyone man to man. Defense is fast and flies to the ball. Most of the time it will be multiple Cove players making tackles. Cove can score fast. You can ask Klein Forrest and Leander both. In the Judson game they came back and scored a TD in the last 30 seconds of the game. They came back in the fourth quarter against Harker Heights also. Cove is a four quarter team. So far this season Cove has scored 454 points for a Per Game average of 38 per game. Cove's defense has only allowed 186 points this season for an average of 16 points per game. These include the last two playoff games. Cove is 9 Wins and 1 Lose at WISD Stadium in all of the games that they have played there.
I don't know much about Garland but that Garland is an old school with a lot of tradition. Both teams are apparently pretty good with playing in the third round of the playoffs. All of the questionable teams are gone by now. Should be a great game.

Cove's offense will setup in the Power "I", Spread, One back, no backs, you name it. They have even in the past (years) ran some wishbone. The only thing I haven't seen them run is the Wing "T" but I bet they have it in the playbook. That is one of the things that makes Cove so dangerous is that they will give the defense many different looks.

What offense does Cove run?
The bread and butter for the Dawgs is the running game. Last week vs. Leander we rushed for 230+. We can and do put the ball in the air, but more to keep the D honest, we do it so little that it usually turns into a huge gain. We mainly run out of an offset I, but go to single set backfield, and shotgun often but can run effectivley out of all of them. QB does a great job with the option when we want to go that route.

answer is YES ! ! Against HArker Heights, the Knights lead 20-14 with about 9 minutes to go 2 minutes and 25 seconds later it was 35-20 Cove and the Dawgs coasted to the finish going away
Against Leander with score 35-21 and 2 minutes to go, Dawgs just gonna run the ball and kill the clock , 2 plays 19 seconds later it was 42-21
that is just two examples of many such scores this season
NOW, the question is , Can the Owls score quick ? Not being a smartazz, I just don't know that much about the Owls offense....

No Garland scores slowly. In the game against a very good Ennis team, Garland time of possesion was like 35 min. out of 48. Its been that way in several game for several years. Garland platoons, and I have seen over and over again the D for the other teams worn down in the 4th, while our offense was fresh. We may use 6 or 7 running backs 10 linemen.

When Cove lines up in the spread with 5 wide receivers, normally it's a QB draw that goes for 25-30 yards
new's weapon is the "A-train", and Dawg fans know what that is

I would say that we can score quickly when we need to...
Against DeSoto, we came back from 14 point deficits twice
Against TJT, we came back from 20-7 going into teh fourth quarter and finished the game on the 2 yard line with the score 21-20 Garland.

We have seen that QB draw several times this year. The Qb gets to meet Mr. Antwine, up close and personal, at about the line of scrimmage. Then we dont see the QB draw after that. Funny how that happens.

I wasn't bragging on the draw, that's just how it's been this year, normally it has been a pretty big play, but Cove only runs it 1-2 times a game....This is gonna be a great game if both teams can live up to the hype we fans have put on them.....maybe even get a Central Texas / North Texas rivalry going..
Maybe Garland can replace Judson in the non-district schedule.....

Talked to a couple of the Cove coaches yesterday and asked them what they thought? About the game that is. They both felt confindent that we will come away with a win. But I tell you, I've asked them before and the attitude was slightly different. I really believe they are confident, but I also sensed that they know in order to win the game there can be very little or no room for error on the part of either team. In other words, the team that makes the least mistakes will win. You know how you can tell when you talk to a person eye to eye? So I'm sure they are stressing to the team that they will have to be more focused on thier "A" game. The Dawgs are focused and have that look about business as I'm sure the Owls are to. Can't wait, looking forward to it. Hey Owl fans, if you win, how do you think you'd fare against the "Panther Nation" assuming they win? I've seen them play two games and feel good about us defeating them. Go Dawgs and Owls

Concerning "what offense does Cove run?"
Anything and everything from a Pro Set, to Power I, to Veer. They have, at times, put out 5 receivers. They don't use the TE much this year.
They WR's are extremely fast and run good routes. They had problems hanging on to the ball during a mid-season slump, but after the first two games of the playoffs appear to have corrected that.
The QB is agile and quick. Earlier this week Coach Jack Welch was quoted as saying Brent Garner is the best QB he has ever had. That's some praise, especially considering that his son, Josh, was Cove's QB for 3 seasons and is currently starting QB for the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, a Div III power who went all the way to the Div III championship game last year.

The Massey Computer Rankings have Garland with the 4th toughest schedule in the state and The Cove at #56. It's a bit tougher to win all your games playing the best teams, rather than playing a number of inferior teams. All of Garlands' 4 non-district games featured playoff teams, plus the two from our district, for a total of 6 of 10 games against playoff teams. You argument, like a sieve, doesn't hold water.

Which ones of those 5A "playoff teams" are still playing??? Only 1 and that is SG with a fluke win over Longview, Desoto 6-5 record and Plano East also 6-5 so perhaps they are not as good as you would like us to believe. And of those playoff teams you lost to 2 of them so like a sieve your argument does not hold water either!! Because 3 teams from every district make the playoffs anyway...every team can say they played at least 2 playoff teams every year dude.

It is not easy finding historical rankings. Without spending a lot of time I found this one from week 4. Copperas Cove was ranked 9 and a week or so later ranked 8. Dallas Carter's last ranking was number 11 I believe.
http://hstexas.scout.com/2/441292.html
However, I like the system of throwing out the rankings once we enter the playoffs. Kind of like when we enter the district season it is just like starting out from scratch again. In the playoffs we start out from scratch ever week.
One never knows.... for instance to me one of the hardest opponents Cove faced this season on a particular Friday night was the Waco Lions who only won maybe 2 games this season. However on their big rivarly night with Copperas Cove, they played their best and Copperas Cove had to play their best in 3 OT's to defeat them. On that particular night Waco could have beaten many other teams in our district.
That game is one that helped us prepare for the playoffs.......

Garland did not "suck", that was not kool. Garland played a good game and has a good team but they did get beat. Thats it, time to move on and get prepared for our next game.
Quite dwelling on the "trash talking" from last week as both teams had tons of that crap. now its over so hang your head up and lets move on to something else.
They did not give up but probable did not play their best game. They appeared tired to me about half way through the 4th quarter.
We won and that was what we wanted to accomplish with this game.
Garland may be back next year so if we ever meet again they will have revenge on their minds but that is still a lllloooonnnngggg way away so lets stay focused on the task at hand and that is preparing for the next contest.
Regardless of who we play next week, we will be the underdog so lets get prepared and show em what we are all about.
