SLC has had plenty of success in 5a football in the best state in america for hs football. many ask how they do it. there are many things SLC does to continue their success, and they will continue to do these until someone proves they can beat them....does anyone think SLC can/will be beat this year?? i say there's no way...we're too good

I think if it comes down to Lufkin/SLC...instead of a coin toss...Coach Outlaw should ask that the two school's alumni have a spelling bee to determine where they play.

I think that you are misguided to think that SLC cannot be beaten this year. True, SLC is a great team but I don't think their unstoppable. With several weeks still left in the playoffs, there are at least 3 or more teams that are capable of beating them. Katy has already proven this in 03'. And SLC usually seems to struggle with lufkin. Again I think that most of Carrol's Success is due to the fact that most teams do not know how to defend against them properly. I think that SV's 02' team was better then last years team that held SLC to only a fieldgoal. So again it comes down to having a great game plan and knowing how to beat SLC. I think that SV knows how to do it, but it should be a great matchup if the two teams can meet up again.

winning by any score over one of the strongest programs in the state is never considered struggling. and i'm guessing the 03 kt team won't provide much help except at db.

If Westfield is so much better than SLC, how come they are not rated higher in any of the national polls - USA Today for example? After all the polls are compiled by professional writers who know more than I do, and I guess more than most of the people who post on this website. It is very easy to shout the odds when you know the event will never happen. I think Penn State would beat the Longhorns this year - I could be right, but we will never know. (I don't really; I just used this to illustrate my point).

Very simple really (and this is no dis to SLC) - the national polls get most of their data from the Dallas Morning News - and the DMN LOVES SLC. Nice, clean suburb - upstanding, all-american kids - unbelievably fat stats - and they also beat everyone in Metro-land 55-3 - what's not to love about that? This only stops if SLC loses. Who knows if SW is better than SLC - we'll never find out. But, SLC will again be very deserving if they take it all - they'll have to beat some good teams to repeat.

As a point of clarification the DMN does not love SLC. In the regular season we're very rarely even featured in the paper and only highlighted in the playoffs because we're all thats still left from DFW. DMN focuses much more on Highland Park and the teams around DALLAS. Fort Worth Star-Telegram on the other hand is infatuated with the Dragons and highlights us every chance they get all year long.

SLC has a great program and I can't wait to play them again. We do alright down in Katy. Hope to see you in December. :D
I will say that if you do win this year you will be the best in the great state of Texas. Because to get the championship you will have to more than likely beat:
Abilene (12-0)
Plano (12-0)
Lufkin (12-0)
And yes Katy (11-0)
So good luck and who ever wins deserves it. :)

I can't speak for anyone else but Lufkin, and that is our recipe. We have a coach who loves the kids and places emphasis on education and teamwork. He will be the first to deflect credit to the kids and the first to accept criticism for the kids. He also knows that the community is a key part of building a great program.

Does it mean nothing that Spring Westfield is 5th in USA Today's Ranking today. It must mean something, otherwise they would not print it. Here is the link for you - http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/football/poll/2005-super25.htm and while you are there, take a look at who #3 is.

Absolutely - But we will never know. Unless we have an actual all 50 states play-offs system, the USA Today and other polls are the next best measurement we have.

Very True... I sat on the SLC side in the Allen Game. The fans were very supportive and are not negative towards opposing teams. Entire familys were there enjoying the game together. My 7 year old son and I were looking for a seat and an SLC couple flagged us down and said the 2 seats next to them were available. 45 yard line! We had our East colors on too.
Football is King in Southlake.
I am guessing there were about 12,000 on the SLC side there to watch the game. I would say at least 11,000 were the Dragon Nation.

I was also at Texas Stadium on Saturday and I continue to be amazed at the fan support for Southlake, whereas Allen probably had half the number of fans Southlake had. I also stayed for the ET vs PEHS game. I was very disappointed see how few PEHS fans there were. Trinity had less than Allen, but far more than PESH. These are D1 schools with higher enrolments, so should have more parents and fans, but in reality did not. It must be very dissappointing for the boys to see poor fan turnout.
