So, what is your prediction on the score? I think it will be a hardfought game with the score differential 7 or less. Whoever has the least turnovers will win.

Plano 31
Midland 28
I hate to give Midland the lesser vote, but whether we like it or not, we are the underdog team in this match.
I think Midland knows this, however, and isnt going to go down without a really big fight.

DIVISION II
Region I-5A Semifinal Picks
Abilene (12-0) vs. Southlake Carroll (12-0): The grandaddy of them all in Division II. Last year, Abilene put a scare into Carroll. We see that happening again, but only a scare. Carroll moves a step closer to repeating with a narrow win over Abilene.
Midland (10-2) vs. Plano (12-0): This will be a tough weekend for the Little Southwest Conference. After Plano beats Midland, we'll get an epic showdown: Old (Plano) vs. New (Carroll) in the Region I finals.

* South Grand Prairie (10-1) vs. Plano (11-0): The upset special of the week. Plano crushed its first nine opponents, the smallest margin of victory being 17 points. They've won the last two by a combined seven. Close contests catch up this week, as South Grand Prairie hands Plano its first loss and advances to the regional semifinals.

Someone's been watching too many Hollywood movies & believing what they saw on the silver screen. If all you know about West Texas hs fb is what you read or saw in FNL, you don't know much about it, really.
BTW, I'm predicting Midland a winner over Plano, but I think it'll be close. I have the utmost respect for Plano & what its fb team has accomplished this yr. I know they're good. But it sounds like many of the Plano posters on here don't have any idea about the team that Plano's about to tangle w/. Mid.'s off. & def. lines are excellent. They have a fantastic back, but their qb runs pretty well, too. Mid. can pass the short passes pretty well & likely will attempt alot of 10-yrd. passes to take pressure off the box. If pressure is taken off the box, Mid's running game will likely produce.
If Plano's bend-but-don't-break def. works, then Mid. will prob. lose. I think it'll be close, though. I sure wish it were Permian playing Plano, but I guess we had our 30-yr. run in the limelight; it's somebody else's turn. Anyway, I'll be there on the Mid. side if I can get into Shotwell Stadium. Mid. will draw a huge crowd in Abilene, & I'm assuming that Plano will bring alot of fans, too. I wish the Ab. sta. were bigger for such an event. It will be interesting to see Plano play again; I haven't seen them since Mojo's good ole days.

Actually, his statement is a glaring underestimation of the Plano team. Either way, he has never predicted Midland going past the third round. I doubt Midland is being underestimated. Reality is that both SGP and Plano are better overall teams than Midland.

You're picking Midland to win but know nothing about Plano's team? Just because Midland destroyed Permian doesn't make them a good team. What happened to Permian anyway? Just curious.

Yes Midland is a good team, all of us Plano fans know that because we have done our background checks on them and seen who they have played this year. I am a biased straight up and down wildcat fan ,but looking from an unbiased perspective midland's 3-5a was down this year big time. You can say all you want ,but Plano's district if allowed could have fielded 6 good playoff teams in the FM teams, Allen, Plano Teams. Midland played a good abiliene ,but who else. Everyone else in the district is down. Midland did have a go with their 1st 2 rounds, but against who(mediocre teams)? Plano has squeaked two hard fought games out, but they did it with a swager. Plano has plenty of players to stop Midland's one dimensional offense and not letting them have control of the clock. Plano wins a hard fought 1st quater and then rolls.

Sorry but there is nothing to back up your clain that either SGP or Plano are better than MHS. That 12-0 record is not a strong 12-0. You are just now starting to play tough teams and you will learn. I saw your powerhouse district LOL.... yea some real tough teams in there. SGP was probably your toughest competition and you squeaked by. To many turnovers in that game. Turnovers will cost you this week. The difference between us and you is we never said Plano didn't have a good team but your arrogant to think that we don't have a good team. Good luck.

On a side note, hate to agree with a dragon fan with our game against them so close, but I have to. The winner of SLC/Abilene will make all this back and forth pointless. Although if Midland were to win, which I hope they do, I would probably pull for them vs. SLC (should SLC win).

they have a ways to go to be considered good. they are from one of the weakest areas in the state and year in and year out would be better prepared to play in the nm po's. they will be wishing they'd chosen a shorter busride home after et gets thru. this is et's bye week.

Hey dawg your district is horribly weak and our district ain't shabby but it isn't close to the best. Your best district team Abiliene has really clouded your west texas mind because you might just get a slap in the face come saturday and anyone who has watched Plano play this year will attest to that. SGP you said was our hardest opponent well look what round were in and what district they came from. They beat the famed trojans from Euless Trinity and barely lost to Irving Mac. So before your podunk mouth goes off check your district and tell me exactly what strength you are talking about you homer.

I will suspend the trash talk and concede this. Midland is a good team if they wern't they would not be in the 3rd round.
I think Plano will win, but nothing is a lock in the play-offs and we will see on Saturday for sure.
But on the district argument you are not making the case and even non-Plano fans will tell you that 8-5A is a far more tougher district than yours this year.
The stats speak for themselves, you are a strong team but I think your district schedule at least added 10% boost to your collective egos, so you better hope you had 110% beacuse you are about to face a team that has played 11 tough games all year 1 was the Colony that doesn't count :D

I'm sorry. Both SLC & Plano were destined to meet this year. Plano might get beat by Midland. I don't think it will happen and the consenus outside Midland is Plano is favored but not by much.
SLC on the other hand will roll over Abilene. Their defense is much improved from last year and even though hope springs eternal in Abilene It will be dashed in Waco.
That is why 3-5A is swept away and Plano vs SLC is a strong possiblity a week from Saturday afternoon at Texas Stadium.
To be the best you have to beat the best!! Abilene & Plano both have that opportunity.

The Plano vs Midland is, in my opinion, the most intriguing match of this coming weekend. There is not a whole lot of separation between these two teams. If you look at their regular season records; Plano is 12-0 and Midland is 10-2, with the 2 losses against Abilene, 30-21 and Lubbock Monterey, 24-28 – Both close games. Plano’s average points scored is 36, Midland’s is 34; Plano’s points against 13, so is Midland’s. Plano’s average margin of victory 23, Midland’s is 21. So both teams have similar records. I guess that the game being played in Abilene gives Midland a slight advantage, having played there many times. Although I notice that Midland played both Abilene schools in Midland this year. Jerry’s Texas Football Ratings picks Midland by 3 – this shows how closely matched these 2 teams are. I think we have the game of round right here. I think Plano shaves it by 3 or less points.

Weather less of a factor in this game, bot teams are used to playing out doors and both have an established running game so if the wind and rain come into play these teams won't be as affected compared to say SLC which throws the ball 50,000 times a game.

Well as I have said in other posts if Midland does defeat Plano I will be the first to congratulate them and eat my fair share of crow.
I have never posted or feel that Plano is going to destroy or blow Midland out.
If Midland does win then I will concede they are legit, until then I feel that they have played in a district that was mostly dominated by teams just under or right at .500 with the exception of Abilene and Midland themselves.
In addition to Plano East and Allen 8-5A had a large group that was in the hunt till the end. Plano West and FM teams, in fact FM in my opinion was one the best non-Playoff team in the district. All the games were close in district play except for Plano who Blew out Allen, Plano West and East, both of which East and Allen were in the play-offs.
This tells me that if Plano can beat Allen and East within the margin that Trinity and SLC did then plano should not be taken lightly.
I think on paper if anyone has a chance to match up against SLC Plano does better but obviously I am biased.
Abilene I am afraid is going down to SLC although I have been prediciting upset. The weather could be a factor in this game as Abilene I think can run the ball better if they have to ditch the spread due to high winds and rain in Waco Friday night.

That is a classic understatement. Correction: The consensus outside of Plano is that Midland should win. Plano should really try and keep this close. Besides talent, MHS will also have the advantage of fans as being a district rival, many Abilenians will make the 10-15 drive to Shotwell to see this. And they won't be rooting for Plano. Good luck and safe travel if you are coming. You will need both. ;)

And they won't be rooting for Plano. Good luck and safe travel if you are coming. You will need both. ;)
Rivals.com and Texasfootball.com are both picking Plano to win. Your right, Plano star courier is picking Plano to win hands down. Dallas Morn News picks come out tomorrow. Interesting, this is what the Midland paper is saying about the game:
"Saturday's game will be the sixth time a current team from District 3-5A has faced Plano in the playoffs. The last time Plano took on a "Little SWC" team was in 1994 when the Wildcats defeated Odessa Permian at Ratliff Stadium in a Class 5A Division I state semifinal.
District 3-5A is 1-4 lifetime in games against Plano. The lone victory was a 35-14 Lee victory in a 1983 Class 5A state semifinal. Odessa Permian played the other four games and is 0-4, all were state semifinals."
I'm not too convinced even the Midland paper thinks Midland will win. Don't be surprised if you don't see many Abilene fans at the game after a heartbreaking loss to SLC and a 4 hour late night/early morning drive home from Waco.

Not much has changed since those 77, 78, 87 and 94 games. Plano still has the flex defense, read & react. The same veer/option game. They do mix it up a bit with 3 wide receiver sets and the QB can throw a good deep ball as well as the short routes as long as he has time to throw.
Plano has some good team speed. Defense is all Seniors with a very quick secondary, & linebacker core and they hit Hard. Best Plano Secondary I've seen. They absolutly do not give up the big offensive play. No big rushing performances to speak of all year.
We'll see what happens. It it rains then we have quite a situation developing.

I have been to all Plano's games this year besides two and I have noticed they like to start out with bread and butter. They get a feel for the other team and decide what they would like to do. I notice against good team d's like SGP the option-sweep was not used as much ,but their was more gut check football. In games against Allen and West the option and sweep were all that were used because their defense could not contain. So I would really say that it truly depends on the other team.

1 in 3 or 1 in 4 running plays is the mid-line option. Just wish Plano did more counter plays. That first step is huge in getting to the hole that split second of hesitation in the defense makes a big difference. At least in the past it did.:)

Again, Don't you think a 4-5 team making the playoffs from your district and getting routed by 35 to Summitt and Summitt turning around and getting beat by EL PASO FRANKLIN says something about how weak your district is.
Midland and Abliene are quality teams but after that Permian, Cooper, Odessa and Lee not very good but very average.

Spoken by a metroplex fan who doesn't know much about W. Tex. hs fb fans. A 4-hr. drive to W. Texans is nothing to see a good hs fb game (it's 3 hrs. one-way to some dist. games). I'm going to Waco & wouldn't miss the Sat. game for anything. BTW, a 50% rain chance in W. Tex. means it prob. will just cloud up for a little while w/ not even a sprinkle. I don't think the San Angelo NWS is even giving 50% chances for rain in Ab. on Sat. (in contrast, it looks like rain--& a good bit of it--is in store for Waco Fri. night according to what I just read on the NWS Texas forecast discussions). If it does rain here, I don't think it'll rain enough to even settle the manure dust next door at the rodeo arena. Ya'll come on out & watch Mid. gitter dun in Abilene. We're not very sophisticated here, but we are good hosts (most of us).

As someone who played against West Texas teams (as a Lamar Viking) in the 87-88 season loss against Permian (Ratliff) and 89-90' win against Lee in Midland and also living in West Texas while attending Tech for 4 years the one thing I can say is that the folks in West Texas are exceptional hosts, always kind and win or loose always display nothing but class.
Trust me there are more unsophisticated folks in the Metroplex as you might think.
Yes Midland is dusty and smells like a fart when you are downwind from the pumps, but that does not mean the folks there are any less than us uppity-ups from Plano.
And trust me on the field that day none of those boys nor us in the stands will be thinking about anything else than football.

After reading the posts from fans on both sides its pretty damn evident that all are biased towards their favorite team. Thats the way this thing works. I know I will not change any Plano fans thoughts and they won't change mine. Just don't try to talk about one district or another that you really don't know anything about. As far as a 4-5 team making the playoffs, I am not in favor of sub 500 teams making the playoffs but they won enough district games to go so what are you gonna do. Longview lost to a team they should have beat..so what, thats why we have playoffs. In 2002 we were supposed to lose big to Duncanville,Arlington Lamar and Tyler Lee was supposed to send us home with our tail between our legs yet we won each of those games. All your supposed facts are just part of the stories that you want to show to make your argument. Games are not won or lost on this forum and all the arguing between the fans means absolute squat. If our teams win it won't be because of something we wrote on here. As far as insults go I think the Plano faithful are winning that title for sure. Good luck to both teams and play injury free.

I agree nothing on this fourm is goijng to help either team win the game, but remember why you signed up for this thing in the first place.
A. To get information
B. To give information about your team
C. To get arise out of the oppositon
D. All of the above
I still pose the this argument. 8-5A is a tougher district than 3-5A.

They played Dallas Kimball (lost to a 4A school in a weak Dallas district), ET (lost), Carroll (lost), Clovis (lost), Midland (lost), Abilene (lost), Summitt (lost). Only beat Port Arthur Mem, Ab Cooper, Permian, and Odessa. This hardly constitutes the toughest schedule in the state.

How does it not constitute as the toughest schedule in the state? It doesn't mater who won or lost the game I am just pointing out the schedule. Here is where I found it. You can read and make your own opinion, this is just facts.

Look at it this way IF Midland Lee would have won all of those games, there would be no question where they would be ranked in the state or maybe in the US. There is no way you can refute that.

The original argument was regarding which district is stronger, 8-5a or 3-5a. Here is what the experts on this website are saying:
Midland (10-2) vs. Plano (12-0); Saturday 2 pm, Shotwell Stadium (Abilene)
Besides the Carroll-Abilene game, Midland vs. Plano may be the most intriguing of all the third round contests. The two teams appear to be remarkably similar. Both teams have outstanding feature backs complimented by dangerous running QB's to go along with their stellar run defenses. The only visible thing that separates the teams is their respective schedules. Plano has proven themselves against a tougher schedule and has met every challenge. Midland can't help who's on the schedule, but they will have a great chance to prove themselves against an excellent Plano team. We see this game as a toss-up, but we'll give a slight edge to the 'Cats.

Insults will get you know where. I know one thing. Plano will win tomorrow and your butt better be on here to take your MEDICINE LIKE A GIRL! :D
Is that better now. See I'm not so dumb as a box of rocks:D

ITS NOW CARROLL 52 ABILENE 0. I'm sure the Abilene fans will be coming to Shotwell to root on Midland. If I were them, I wouldn't show my face around the playoffs for about 51 years, like Midland. LMAO and still LMAO!!!!!!!
I'm happy to report no one will have to read pathetic posts from piratebacker anymore.............he has been kicked off for good!!!

No doubt about it. A game that eventually could mean an SLC vs. Plano matchup is incredible. I am biased so I say Plano by a million.

PRediction PLANO 24-10. Doesn't matter how many purple fans their are in the stadium. Just ask Abilene.
