Gerald Meyers...."We're gonna extend and re-do Coach Leach's contract at the end of the year."

Gee.... you think?

1. contrary to popular belief, leach does have 2 years left on the current contract.
2. i've heard there is a $500K buy-out and no buyout on Leach's contract. that means squata/ nada/ nil/ nothing to a big program looking for coaches
3. Leach has discussed coaching vacancies with various schools ranging from UCLA to Miami in recent years. while some in the past have gleefully proposed he had nothing to stay in Lubbock for compared to those "more desirable" locales, TSO stays in Lubbock. Funny huh?
4. I see Leach's interest in other programs as simply a function of a business that thrives on "developers." Leach owes it to himself to see what the Miami's and U-dubs of the world will offer. It sets the market for his future contracts. For all of the folks knocking the job Myers has done, the salary Leach receives did protect Tech this past year from suitors trying to lure Leach away.
5. Leach has used 9 years, but Tech is definitely iin a better place than when he got here. I don't know that he wants to go to the higher profile schools or that they would be patient enough for him. all told, Tech alumni are pretty supportive and patient- we know Leach is great for the program and a good fit in Lubbock. as difficult as it is for some folks to comprehend, the Pirate likes it in Lubbock.

Tennessee makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons. Not the least of which is the fact that Tennessee is one of the few program that basically recruits itself and Leach is not known as a very good recruiter (neither was Spurrier so don't freak out on me crazy Tech fan). A lot of the personnel they have were recruited when they switched to more of a spread based offense, so Leach would walk right in to talent appropriate for his offense.

I believe it was Joe Schad that said Leach's people are willing to discuss the Tennessee job.

Tennesse makes more sense than JTK.

That's about it.

I could see Leach going to Tennessee, but it will take a lot of things to fall in place for it to happen
