From 2005 to 2008, USC has signed 29 of the Nationally ranked (Rivals) Top 50 players. The other Pac-10 schools, combined, have signed only 4. Is the greed of Pete Carroll and USC, in signing the Top National (and Californian) recruits, killing the Pac-10?? Give a read... http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news;_ylt=Ajap459JQH6rgoHx9TZZ7HAcvrYF?slug=dw-uscrecruits110408&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

No secret why the Pac-10 is soft most years....
It would seem like more of the Western/California kids would look some place else with all the talent USC has every year, but they don't.... Pete Carroll just keeps bringing them in...
I dont see how its greed though... He's getting them and they want to play there... It may suck if your a fan of the other Pac-10 teams, but I dont fault Pete for that... He's doing what any good coach would do.. Those other teams should ask themselves why none of this talent wants to play for them.. If its so cut and dry that USC is getting the majority of the talent, then those other programs should start cutting into his pot of gold and get the kids or at least some of them to go to their schools... I dont know any coach who would let a top recriut go to another school just so their conference could be more competitive.. If you want the kid try and get him.. If its hard to sell your program to a kid over USC, then you need to change some things...

The point of the story is to show how Pete's greed is killing the potential of the Pac-10, thus weakening his own strength of schedule. A fairly weak Pac-10 keeps 1-loss USC out of the National Title game, due to a weak schedule in playing against inferior competition in the Pac-10. Then one begins to think... how is Pete losing to Stanford and Oregon State??
Anyhow, I totally respect and love the notion of dominating in recruiting. I'm all for hogging the most 5-Stars as possible. However, I have a problem with wasting 5-Star and 4-Star talent, IE... Mitch Mustain. I also have to wonder if it is a smart thing to allow conference foe to take in some top talent, in order to enhance/strengthen the conference. It actually makes a little sense.

no one is forcing the kids to go there. Face it most don't care about education they want the $$$ and chance to win and play for a big named university.

I get the $$$...
I get the chance to win...
I don't get the notion of getting a legit chance to play if there are 6 5-Star RB's on the roster and I'm being recruited as the 7th 5-Star RB!

everyone of those kids has the i'm gonna play mentality. Remember that kid from copell who went to usc, has he even got playing time yet?
Let usc take that soft *** baby **** known as California players i'll stick with the home grown real football players in our states back yard.

Adrian Peterson, Tommie Harris, Malcolm Kelly, Joe Washington, Billy Sims, Quentin Griffin, Brian Bosworth, Cedric Jones, Joe Bowden, Greg Roberts, Paul Thompson, Ricky Dixon, Derrick Strait, etc. I'm not saying OU gets all of the talent, but they get their fair share. Also, OU just received the committ from arguably the best Safety in Texas and 4th best Safety in the Nation.
But you are right... them Sooners do win Conf. and National Titles. :D

One thing they might be thinking about...If you go to USC you don't normally get used and abused....Go hang out at USC for 4 years, get your education and then head to the NFL....Sometimes not even 4 years...

Yes, he (Emmanuel Moody from Coppell) received playing time. As a matter of fact, he was second in rushing, at USC, as a true freshman in 2006... when they had a ton of 5-Star talent at RB. He was injured and lost his starting spot... thus now he's playing RB at Florida, now.

What do you mean "either"?
At USC
As a true freshman, 2nd in rushing with 79 rushes for 459 yds/2 tds.. his 5.8 yds per rush led USC.
At Florida

I still have no idea why he transfered to a Spread "Gimmicky" Offense.

He would look good in the Texas backfield, IMO. Should've transferred to UT.

The answer to the OP is no. The Pac-10's inept coaching and lack of consistency is whats killing that conference. USC is in the rare position to win the conference every year and even when they drop a game (i.e. this year) they still get all the love from the coaches polls and general media after they beat up on a couple more inferior Pac-10 teams and the media forgets about the loss. The Big Televen and Pac-10 are the worst BCS conferences in terms of this lopsided dominance and I can't stand the SEC's constant 10-7 or 12-6 point games, truly agonizing to watch. If I were Pete Carroll I would be smiling like the cheshire cat at all the talent they have coupled with the cupcake schedule, I'd be ridin high.

Ricky Williams, Roy Williams, Bryant Westbrook, Pat Fitzgerald were all pretty good from California at UT and OU, Lawrence Phillips at NU...
