Does anyone kno bout that??? From what we were told tonight - that is true (meaning the highest ranked D-1 team in district x will play the highest ranked D-1 team in district y.)

I had to add the disclaimer, Jbusch was at Coach' Corner tonight and I wasn't. I figure his info came from that meeting. Didn't want to be guilty of saying his information was wrong!:D

Do you not know how to read the bracket http://www.uil.utexas.edu/athletics/brackets/football/5A_bracket/5A_division1.html? The brackets list Wx vs. Ry where x=1 district winner and y=another districts runner up. Only way champions play each other in round 1 is if two teams tie in each district.

No problem. I just didn't want to say you were wrong if Lineweaver had said something tonight.
We are all allowed misreads, I had one this week about FM and FMM!

Can someone explain how the process works for deciding where Playoff games are held?

up for the coaches to decide. They can agree on a site (no flip), or if they can't agree on anything they flip for it. It is a little more complicated but hopefully you get the idea.

The coaches flip for sites the week before, and that usually occurs on Thursdays once the playoffs start. They can choose a home vs. home flip, neutral flip (later round version of a home vs. home) or agree to a neutral site.

The first week of the playoffs is a mad scramble for neutral site stadiums because of so many playoff games. The scheduling gets easier as the playoffs progress.

Also, depends on if they have played each other within the last 2 years in the playoffs.

Not all go for a neutral site.

..when they have a Home VS Home - how long does that last for?
Example: Oak played Oak Ridge at Klein Memorial in '06, so is automatically an Oak Ridge home game or does it start over (since there is a year gap)?

You have two years after the original flip

I think the first option ask of each coach is, would you like to flip for home or home? If either say, No, then the options of neutral sites begin. Is this the way you think it plays out?

You can flip for home/neutral. If there is a disagreement you "flip." (actually use Districts and zip codes)

You are saying, team P wins the first flip and gets the pick then Team A gets the option the very next year and then it's over, if they are matched up in the third year it's a new flip? I think thats the way it is.

I think you would ask for them to both agree or disagree on home first. Reason being because I don't think either coach can be forced into a home or home agreement. If either coach blinks on home or home then the need for a neutral site flip is obvious.

you got it. Even if they were to skip year 2 and play the third year team A still has choice.

I have another question: When the UIL is figuring out attendance figures for each school - do they count the the 9&10th grade auxillary school?
Example; The Klein Schools have all 4 grades on campus, but schools like TWHS, Aldine, Westfield, Lufkin do not.

wow - that's what I thought, but it makles sense though.
It made me think because I noticed Lufkin is 5th in a 6 team District, seemed strange to have a 9-10 campus.

This way you avoid a second HS and keep all the talent going to Lufkin. Same way for SLC. Plano invented the concept.

..I may be mistaken and if so my apologies to the Pack family.
I thought I had read that there was a school for 9th (or 9&10 grades) similar to what Aldine, Woodlands & Westfield have. Anyway the point was not to knock the Lufkin family but was more to clarify how the attendence figures were done. I also thought that Lufkin being a 1 school town would be higher up in attendnce.

Naw it's cool.
We probably should though, but we do have Hudson and Diboll close by.

It doesnt matter, enrollment is calculated on 9-12 from the whole district. It includes incoming freshman even if your hs is 10-12.

How do they figure that for teams that split a 9th grade, like Trinity and Bell split kids from Central JH. I think that Grapevine and Colleyville split some too, don't they?
(Trinity and Bell have five JH schools, each getting two schools and splitting the fifth.)

By counting the number of kids that will be incoming for each school.
BTW, alternative schools are sometimes counted, too, unless you can get an exemption from the UIL. I know Belton fought this issue several years back because their alternative HS took them over the 5A limit.
