Watched video of Garland, not too impressed

I saw the footage of both games that Garland played Carter. Their offense looked very good, but the defense didn't look as fast as stated. Im not putting down Garland in any way but they continue to post they have the fastest D in the state... They didnt look as fast as stated. I believe our offense will be able to put up 30 points on them..

I could really care less if your not impressed... we are not a flashy team with a highpowered offense that will score 100 in a half.. I like our team, I think we have a great chance of winning. If you go into this game thinking you will roll over us, guess what... You will be turning in pads on monday and will be focusing on basketball season from here on out. When our boys get into a big game, the players from the 56, 63, and 64 championship games come to the locker room and tell them about how it feells to win the big one, and what it takes to win, and how they'll feel if they don't leave it all on the field and give it the best shot. Over 20 players from the 63-64 team pep talked the boys in the 1999 championship game. You think that wasn't inspiring? I see at least 5 or 6 guys off that team at every game and at least 7 -10 members of the Garland Sports Hall of Fame at each game. Those boys know the tradition that flows through this school and team and see the constant reminders, and it inspires them to do great things that they might not be able to do in a normal situation.

CC may be more talented than us, and speedier than us, and better than us, but don't be foolish and think that you can just BS your way to a title. It takes a bunch more than BS, and for now, that's about all I see from your fans. I hope for your teams sake that they don't reflect the trash you so called fans spew, because if they do, they will have all they can handle on Friday. We've beat better teams than us many times, just because we were taken lightly......just like you loud-mouths are.

Personally it sickens me that most everyone that has posted on the Cove/Garland threads has done nothing but bash eachother. It is going to boil down to who is better that day, nothing more nothing less. Both teams have earned the privilage to be in the third round of the playoffs, that is exactly what it is a privilage!! Possibly easy to center on, yes Carter is known for showing you the run offense and doing just that, running it right into your throat play after play. However, it is far easier said than done to stop the run against a team of Carter's caliber and size, good lord the size of those kids frightens me for them to be high schoolers. As a South Garland alum and hs football fan in general, I am an unbiased observer of GHS this year. I have seen them play 4 times: DeSoto, SG, Rowlett and Carter.

Garland:

1) Will be ready to play, no doubt. since the resurgence of the Garland program in the mid 90s, I have yet to witness GHS overlook an opponent or come out flat (even vs LView bidistrict in 02).

2) Speed on defense

3) Size and quickness on both sides of the line

4) Power running game with a quick QB


Cons

1) Not the best at the forward pass

2) Tend to be a little too aggressive causing a few late hit personal fouls (most evident in the SG game this year)

"Cove High student stabbed in school commons

COPPERAS COVE — Police Monday night arrested an 18-year-old Copperas Cove High School student in the stabbing of another student Monday.

The suspect was arrested in the 900 block of Deorsam in Copperas Cove and taken to Copperas Cove City Jail, pending arraignment.

Around 3 p.m. Monday, Walter Griffin, a 17-year-old CCHS student, was stabbed several times during an after-school incident on campus.

Lt. Danny Austin of the Copperas Cove Police Department said Griffin was life-flighted to Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, where he was treated for multiple stab wounds to his right side.

He was listed in stable condition Monday night.

Griffin identified the suspect to police, and Coryell County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Bill Price issued an arrest warrant on a charge of attempted murder.

Austin said the police had not determined a motive in the stabbing.

Students at CCHS said the victim was in the large commons area near the gymnasium when he was stabbed. Then, witnesses said, he ran through the front doors and past Lea Ledger Auditorium, leaving a trail of blood stains along the sidewalk.

“Caution — Wet Floor” signs littered the freshly mopped floor where the altercation took place.

Students waiting outside were surprised and overwhelmed by the incident.

“I was just in shock to hear someone got stabbed,” said Christina Parrish, a freshman. She said she was a little scared when she first heard, but she thinks CCHS is a safe school.

Wayne Baugh, junior, said the incident was bad but he’s seen worse.

“This is like a one-shot deal,” he said. “I don’t think it will happen again.”

Baugh said the attacker ran away quickly.

School officials did not comment on the severity of the injuries or the nature of the incident, but Copperas Cove Independent School District Deputy Superinten-dent Rose Cameron did say preliminary investigations showed that the incident stemmed from an altercation.

Witnesses said Griffin lost a lot of blood before emergency medical services arrived.

Tragic car accident kills Copperas Cove teenager

COPPERAS COVE — The Copperas Cove Independent School District is mourning the loss of a 17-year-old student who was fatally injured when she was struck by a vehicle while waiting for her school bus Wednesday morning.

Krystal Duden, 17, was standing on Farm-to-Market 1113 when Brent Garner, 18(Cove's quarterback), came over a hill in an eastbound pick-up.

Department of Public Safety Officer David Poston said it is unknown why Duden was standing in the middle of the road, and there is no indication of substance abuse or anything that would fault Garner.

It was Duden’s 17th birthday.

A first-year student at Copperas Cove High School, Duden was a sophomore member of the JROTC.

Garner is the starting quarterback and kicker for the varsity football team.

“The Copperas Cove ISD family is deeply grieved by this morning’s tragedy,” said CCISD superintendent Glenn Acker. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to those families involved.”

Acker said counselors are visiting Duden’s classrooms to talk to students. They will be available to meet with students over the next several days.

Killeen Independent School District has offered its help.

Acker said things are going well considering the circumstances, and the district will continue to monitor the situation to be sure all of the students’ needs are met.

No its not a violation because we start morning practice at 720 when school starts. He lives about 20 miles out in the country.

For your information the girl who was hit (sorry to say this) has been said to have played chicken with cars every morning. Brent did nothing wrong. If you call him classless for playing then you are a ******. The football field was the only place he could go and be at peace. He couldnt even look at a girl or his girlfriend for a while. If any owl players bring that up on the field only god will be able to help you. The last players I heard say anything were the Bryan players. Look what happened to them. You are a moron who knows nothing of Coach Welch. You better believe we were down there giving praise to god when we lost to Cedar Park last year. I would like to make it clear that as an Owl and as a human, I couldn't think any less of Farmboy. He clearly has an agenda against Copperas Cove and he is a monster to even bring up that tragedy. I am not taking his words in as evidence of the character of Cove fans. I'm very sorry for the tragedy that happened this year and I think Farmboy should be kicked off this board if not arrested.

What a tragedy for the community of Copperas Cove. I am truly sorry that this happened to the young man. Something like that can linger for a long time. I hope he has great support from his community and school to help him. My thoughts and prayers are also with the young lady's family.
