Not really surprising news but I just read on ESPN that Fulmer has agreed to step down at the end of the season. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3679810

Phillip Fulmer, who a decade ago brought Tennessee its first national championship in 47 years, will not return as the Vols' coach next year, multiple sources told ESPN.com.

An announcement is being planned for later Monday at Neyland Stadium. The Vols (3-6, 1-5 SEC) have lost four straight games and are in danger of suffering their second losing season in the last four years.
Fulmer, who's won 150 games at his alma mater and is the dean of SEC coaches, met with Tennessee officials Monday morning, and they reached a mutual agreement that it would be best for all parties if Fulmer was not back next season.
There had been increasing scrutiny on Fulmer, who took over full time as head coach in 1993 and has been at his alma mater as a player, assistant coach and head coach for more than 30 years.
The Vols won the national title in 1998 and were one of the top programs in all of college football in the 1990s, but the program hasn't been the same this decade. They've lost 31 games since the end of the 2001 season.

OK - here we go - Leach likes the smaller town life, mountains, clean air - and Tennessee can't score.

:D:eek:

Well... Like you said, its not a shocker... But I will say that Tennessee can attract some talent.. It is a nice program to have.. I wonder if Leach will be interviewed and if so.. I cant see him staying at Tech... Program wise there is no compairison..

I would pay top dollar to see Leach and his 3*5 notecard hand it to Nick Saban.

He could certainly attract talent but I'm not sure he would be such a good fit in the SEC. I think he would be much more successful in the Pac-10 or Big Ten.

Yeah, what's up with that - can't we get the "mad scientist" a bigger play card?
Leach vs. Meyer - Good
Leach vs. Saban - Great
Leach vs. Spurrier - Must see TV

No way Leach would work in the SEC, he's too nice of a guy, he leaves his practices open and allows his cell phone to be given out by the SID to the media... that won't fly in the SEC. It has to be a media blackout to be a coach in the SEC.

Plus as a Georgia fan Leach at UTn scares the :Censor: out of me!!

Saw this coming, from China. In walks... Coach BMF! Who in their right mind can resist Neyland Stadium, the SEC and the daily jolt of "Rocky Top"?? Coach BMF just finished packing his bags and sticking a "FOR SALE, ASAP" sign in his front yard! Sorry, Longhorn fans... :D

How old is Muschamp? He looks about 35 - not sure he's ready? Tennessee is probably more daunting than anywhere else - plus Fulmer's whacky recruiting took him all over the world.

Coach BMF is who I have pegged too.
As a former UGA safety, I do not want to see him at UT.
That would just spell doom for Mike Bobo and his inability to call a freaking football game.
However, I think Muschamp will be the next HC on Rocky Top too.

He has a street named after him right outside the stadium, but he let a bad situation languish for far too long without doing something about it.

Yeah, no denying that...He's been hanging on last couple of years...He's probably done coaching...

I could actually see Mike Leach coaching at Tennessee. Tech fans may not like it, but if Texas Tech gets a NC then Leach will move, but if they don't he might stay.

Being an SEC coach will be hard to stay away from.

Wasn't really talking about that...

Talking about Tennessee and Michigan being "old school" schools...

Shame on Fulmer for only winning 1 NC in his tenure at Tennessee. And correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the Vols in the SEC title game last year? Somebody help me out here?

LOL I hope not because I love Ferentz. If he just would get rid of his O coordinator I would love him even more.

I've heard this before. Personally, I think he could take the SEC by storm. Can you imagine his offense being run with the best recruits in the nation, in other words not the kids that he gets at Tech? I'm not saying he goes there but Tennesse is a big time program complete with facilities, boosters, history and tradition. A couple of seasons there and he'd change many people's belief that his offense isn't SEC worthy.

Me, too. HIs emotions were real and you could tell he had no regrets about his life and it's dedication to the Volunteer program. He's one of the last of a dying breed. 35 years at one university? Impressive.
