View Full Version : Texas Tech vs Texas Rematch national game?

BCS Standings
1. Alabama 9-0
2. Texas Tech 9-0
3. Penn State 9-0
4. Texas 8-1
Its not impossible at all, Remember Alabama is still in the sec anything can really happen there. While Texas plays no ranked teams at all they would need to really impress voters.
Penn state has a slim chance of losing, but if they did say that puts tech at 1, and Texas @ 2. Would there be a rematch? Now one thing that makes me think not is 1 would be in the big twelve championship game the other would not.

Tech also has to beat Okie State and play at OU. Then play in the Big12 Championship, not saying it can't be done, but the odds are against them

Bama can lost and I think they will...Penn State might not lose but I'm a Spartan fan when Michigan State plays Penn State
I think people are going to look and notice that Texas has the toughest SOS and the horns will get the nod ahead of the lions.
My prediction is Texas vs Florida for the national title... Or..
Texas vs Penn State for the national title

It is over Longhorns , forget that you will lose another game , heck Texas A & M owns you . the last two years they have beaten you and they will pull off the hat trick and do it again this year . You will go to a bowl game and get beat down by an SEC team , I sure hope it is LSU. Any way you guys are rebuilding for next year . Oh by the way you won't play for a national championship next year either.:notworthy:notworthy SEC rules and soft 12 is just that soft 12.

Tech would have to win out to keep TU from the number one spot or two spot...
but TU has to beat A&M for anything like this to happen.
who knows its college football, anything can happen

I am an Aggie fan and always hope for great things but beating UT in Austin this year is probably not going to happen unless UT somehow just falls apart and I don't see that happening. If we can keep the score within 14 IMO that would be huge.

When you say "rules" you're meaning present tense?
In the present..
# = National Rank
ppg = points per game
papg = points allowed per game
() = Delta/Difference
BOLD = indicates the toughest schedule, so far
SEC
#1 Alabama - 32 ppg, 12 papg (+20)
#4 Florida - 43 ppg, 12 papg (+31)
#14 Georgia - 32 ppg, 23 papg (+9)
#15 LSU - 33 ppg, 24 papg (+9)
Vanderbilt - 21 ppg, 17 papg (+4)
Mississippi - 26 ppg, 22 papg (+4)
South Carolina - 23 ppg, 15 papg (+8)
Auburn - 18 ppg, 16 papg (+2)
Kentucky - 22 ppg, 17 papg (+5)
Tennessee - 17 ppg, 19 papg (-2)
Arkansas - 20 ppg, 31 papg (-11)
Mississippi State - 16 ppg, 21 papg (-5)
Total delta = +74
Big XII
#2 Texas Tech - 47 ppg, 22 papg (+25)
#5 Texas - 44 ppg, 21 papg (+23)
#6 Oklahoma - 50 ppg, 23 papg (+27)
#8 Oklahoma State - 45 ppg, 21 papg (+24)
#13 Missouri - 46 ppg, 24 papg (+22)
Kansas - 34 ppg, 26 papg (+8)
Kansas State - 37 ppg, 34 papg (+3)
Nebraska - 33 ppg, 28 papg (+5)
Texas A&M - 27 ppg, 33 papg (-6)
Colorado - 18 ppg, 29 papg (-11)
Baylor - 27 ppg, 28 papg (-1)
Iowa State - 26 ppg, 35 papg (-9)
Total delta = +110
I think schedules even out for the strong defensive play vs strong offensive play conflict. However, I think the strength of the offenses in the Big XII outweigh the strength of the defenses in the SEC, this year, IMO. As a whole, after watching the season unfold thus far, I'd say the Big XII is strongest, top to bottom, this year. People say a good defense will shutdown those high-flying offenses, but the only true Spread (Gimmicky) Offense in the SEC that I can think of is Florida... and they've just blown out Georgia and LSU. The Big XII has 6 offenses that spread out defenses, much like Florida. (OU, Tech, Texas, Mizzou, OSU and Kansas) You do the math!

1. ...have meant nothing because aggy lost both of those bowl games and UT won both of theirs. Plus, considering our 40 game lead in the series...
2. I think we'd have to lose to Baylor and aggy or KU for us to play Le Tigres.
3. This year's Texas team was not supposed to contend for the Big XII title. We were supposed to do that with NEXT year's team.

Ignore the fact that with only 1 Texas Tech loss, UT is right back in it. UT is also still #4 in the country. By the way, LSU would get the **** kicked out of them by Texas.

In 2006, if UT beats A&M and goes to the Big XII CCG and likely a BCS bowl. Instead, they go to San Antonio and scrape by Iowa. Yup, I guess that loss meant nothing. I'm sure that Alamo Bowl trophy more than makes up for a Big XII Championship and BCS berth.

Yeah, not sure where you get that. That's something that the sips made up to feel better about losing to "inferior" Texas A&M. Fact is that the truly meaningless win was your stinker against a .500 Iowa team in the Alamo Bowl. Somewhere down the line, UT will beat a bowl bound A&M, then A&M will win its bowl and UT lose theirs. When that happens, I'm not going to pretend that I don't care about that loss.....especially if it kept me out of the Big XII CCG.

Hold on cajun... the Big XII has only been around for about 12 yrs. Since then, Nebraska, OU and Texas have won National Titles. And.. KSU, OU, Texas, A&M, Neb and Colorado have won Conference Titles.
Big XII vs SEC finishes in the AP Top 25, since 1996...
1996 - 4 BXII, 4 SEC
1997 - 4 BXII, 6 SEC
1998 - 5 BXII, 4 SEC
1999 - 4 BXII, 6 SEC
2000 - 5 BXII, 5 SEC
2001 - 4 BXII, 5 SEC
2002 - 4 BXII, 3 SEC
2003 - 4 BXII, 5 SEC
2004 - 3 BXII, 4 SEC
2005 - 4 BXII, 5 SEC
2006 - 2 BXII, 5 SEC
2007 - 5 BXII, 5 SEC
Total = 50 BXII, 58 SEC
Prediction for 2008 - 5 BXII (OU, TX, OSU, TTU, MU), 4 SEC (FA, LSU, GA, ALA)
It's not like the BXII is chop liver, or the Sunbelt Conference, that has finally arrived. LMAO! :D
Yea.. exactly the same.. other than the millions of dollars from the bowls its the same.
Bowl revenue is split amongst all teams in the conference.
a$m and Texas made the exact same amount from both Texas' Rose Bowl appearances.

I do have a lot of trust in Tech, though.
They have trailed for about 16 minutes total in 3 games:
Nevada got ahead 3-0 and Tech threw an INT before getting a stop and then scoring a TD to never trail again.
A&M took the lead on Tech 4 times. Tech score a TD on the next drive everytime.
Texas took a lead on Tech in the 4th and the Red Raiders scored a TD.
Tech has been behind for 7 possessions and scored 6 TD's. They believe in answering adversity.

In 2005 you all played Alabama in the Cotton Bowl, I believe...Both teams came in 9-2...
Bama 13
Texas Tech 10
I figure Tech alittle better this year and so is Bama...

This.
Any Longhorn who says the loss to aggy in 06 didn't suck to no end is a liar and cheat.
But frankly, I'd rather lose to aggy and win a bowl game than beat aggy and lose a bowl game. Winning bowl games factors rankings for the following season.
This is considering those are my only two options, since apparently that's all A&M is allowed to choose from.

An egg as in no points? Or just a loss?
If you think TTech won't score against OU, your medication needs changing.
Actually OSU scares me a bit more, but we do have them at home.
It will be tough for the Raiders to win out...but isn't it always that way for a true champion?
Win, lose, or draw...Tech has a fine team.

Well said. You know, I've watched and pulled for TTech since 1979. Since Leach has been there, you can always count on their doing their thing...the whole freaking game. Sometimes it doesn't work...generally it does. Ruffin has the D amped and they have a good chance...a long shot, but a shot nonetheless.

I figure Tech alittle better this year and so is Bama...Tech is a lot better this year. The QB doesn't have a dead arm like 05. Tech was running on fumes to end the year. It cost them the OSU game and almost cost them the OU game.
That Cotton Bowl would've been a 10-3 Tech game with 'bama needing a late TD if they hadn't typhooned that 1st quarter call that gave 'bama their only TD. I'm not saying it was crooked, I'm just saying a bad call changed the course of the game.
As far as 'bama goes, they have worse D and a little better O this year and better coaching.

I don't even think it's a longshot. They have 2 home games and a road game against a team that should take them seriously, but might not. The CCG won't be easy, but they'll also play a team they blew out or a team they want revenge against.
I just think things are playing out for them and it's just their time. I hear all about the tinfoil comments, but I have to be true to my word. I'm the type of guy who is going down with the Texas Tech Pirate Ship!:D All I've ever said is that Tech is fighters and better talent will produce better results. That's why I don't want to lose Leach. He's come to Lubbock as a first time head coach and gotten better and had to compete against other teams with better names and more money.
