Where's Odessa Permian?

Where has Odessa Permian been for the past few years? I remember a time where they were ALWAYS the team to watch out for. Friday Night Lights was a cool movie.

Permian is playing basketball. I may be wrong but I beleive they only won one district game in District 3-5A. This eventually happens to all great programs and will happen to the great programs we have today.

I'm sure they will be back . . . . someday.

Yep, that's right T-Bob. All great programs will go down eventually. We were a force for 30 yrs., so I don't think that has ever or ever will be equaled in 5-A. Even SLC will go down eventually (like us). We only won one game but this dist. is so tough that it's hard sometimes to even get one win (we almost had 2 other wins, but close doesn't count). We shutout the team that almost beat #6 Ab. Hi last weekend, but I'm afraid that doesn't count, either. We'll be back--don't know when.

Odessa's not the kind of town that will let Per. languish forever. Highschool fb is everything in Odessa, so Per.will eventually make it back, but it sure is tough when a town dismantles its powerhouse fb team for various reasons. It's hard to get it back.

I went to the "other" school in Odessa, but after THE big game I was always begrudgingly proud of MOJO and the classy way they represented Odessa. I do wish that cross town rivalry was healthier. I hope for the day Odessa High and Permian are both in the playoffs.

Friday Night Lights, the book, is probably the single biggest reason for the fall of the Permian program for any number of reasons, but primarily for its exposure of Odessa's mixed up priorities...

Embarrassment, anger, and rebellion led to changes there... For better or worse? Certainly debatable.

I think it was a good movie, never read the book though. I'll have to check that out.

I will say in another 3-5 years, they will be a tough team to face again. These things tend to go in cycles...

It was not necessarly trash but they do not like to be corrected when they have stated something that was not correct.

When i lived in Odessa i used to tell everyone that if they ever played Cove they would never beat them and so far that has been true and they can not take that very well.

StrakeDrake, this is a subject you really know absolutely nothing about. Permian was successful long after the book came out. Unless you were raised in Odessa and lived it you may think you know something but you really don't.
