I think Cinco's offense is better than 14 points... But I have not seen either team in person - so I will not try to predict a game where frankly I know little other than Katy is now dominating (after being dominated early) and Cinco didnt look so good last game... But has looked good otherwise

This game is going to be BIG on so many levels. I voted for Katy to "squeak by" just because I didn't think they would win in a blowout, but I don't think the game will be that close either. Cinco has the tools this year on the offensive side of the ball to give Katy some problems, and Ross is a tremendous player, but it will all come down to whether or not Katy can get pressure on him. I don't care what people say, the kid is hurt and has been playing hurt most of the season. You can see it in the way he plays (avoiding hits, lack of cutting ability, running out of bounds, etc. He still has good straight line speed, but if Katy's defensive front can get to him, he will make mistakes. The spread teams have given Katy trouble this year, as they do most teams, but Katy makes adjustments better than any team in the state and I don't see this game coming down to a final drive in the 4th quarter.

Go back to the first cliche we all learned about football: "DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS"

This is why Katy wins this game for another district title.

Having said all of that, this game IMO is critical for the Tigers. A good week of practice capped off with a win will spring board them into another playoff run that could take them into December. A loss and it could undermine all the hard work Katy has put in over this season to bouce back from the Woodlands game. This Katy team has the talent and ability to be as great as any other that has come through over the years, and it all starts RIGHT NOW!

I believe this is the best Cinco team ever. Last week meant nothing - Cinco looking ahead played a sloppy game but finally took care of things. The Cinco team has enough talent to make a deep D - 1 playoff run. I expect Cinco to bring their A game.

Does any of that matter? No - because there is a question no one in KISD has ever had to answer: "What happens if Katy brings their A game?"

Yes which is why I voted for Cinco to just squeak by. Katy will also continue to stop the opposing team whenever they want to. I am just hoping Cinco comes in pissed off from their poor performance and from the fact they've never beaten Katy. I am really hoping it's neck and neck the whole game though.

Those are my thoughts on this game, exactly. I have had many people, this season, ask me if this is the best team the Farmers have ever had. I've seen them all and as a group, this IS the best Farmers team a Katy Football team will ever have faced. However, we will have to be 100% focused on the task at hand, stick to the gameplan, no turnovers and every kid will need to play the game of his life. There is allot on the line for this team and they know that. Could be the 1st time to ever beat Katy, 1st time ever to be District Champions, 1st KISD school to beat Katy since 1997. That is allot pf pressure on 16,17, 18 year old kids. This is unchartered territory for us. Only a couple of kids even played on the 2006 squad, that fought Katy hard for 4 quarters.

The only people that know we can win are our kids, our coaching staff and the TRUE Cinco supporters. We'll be there backing our kids for 48 minutes.

If Katy loses, I think mentally it could produce a lot of doubt in the Tigers minds and undermine the progress they've made this year. How many games the Tigers win, I don't know.

Falls couldnt stop Cedar Hill because they play undiscipline on defense, they match up with a team that was as talented as them, and couldnt overwhelm them with there athletes, against a team like chill, Gap control is much more important than penetration, Penetration creates gaps to run through.

Yes, Falls did have another game before Cedar Hill and yes they dominated that game, but let's face it, Region 4 is not exactly the hotbed of dominating teams. I'm sure I'll get blasted for saying this, but it's a lot like Region 3 in the sense that it has several great teams and the rest you could beat without showing up. Before that game, all Falls talked about on this board was getting past Katy. The head coach even said that the road to the championship had to go through us. I don't know if the win over Katy had anything to do with their loss or not, but I do know that had the team that beat Katy shown up in San Antonio, Cedar Hill wouldn't have run all over them like they did. It seemed as if they got their win against Katy, dominated the semifinal game, and then there was a major letdown in the finals. I've said it before that most high school football teams are not very disciplined and when you dealing with kids who have come off the biggest win of their lives, there sometimes is a tendency to lose focus.

I know you guys have been looking forward to this all season. Heck, I've been listening to my CR friends yammer about how this is the year they are going to beat Katy since last spring. I also know that everyone wants it to be this deathmatch that is decided in the final seconds. I don't see it. I think it may be close up until half.

Cinco wanted to come in and take the night off on Friday against the lowly Seven Lakes Spartans and had to fight until the last play to win. They wanted to rest their starters, made obvious by the bush move of kicking the onside kick after scoring an early TD, tangible proof of their lack of respect for the Spartans. Instead, they walked around in a daze and ended up in a dogfight.

I think that the emotional wrenching that game and its aftermath have caused, and will continue to cause this week, has brought some really unneeded distraction for a team playing such an important game this Saturday. The Cinco guys I know are still talking about the Seven Lakes game, not really the upcoming contest. I think it has to have softened them up a bit and has probably allowed some measure of self doubt to creep in.

Maybe not a slaughter, but not that close in the final score. Katy by at least 14. I will say that if it does all go wrong again, say Katy really spanks them, it will hurt them bad and probably contribute to an early exit in the playoffs.

I don't think it's that technical... I just don't think CR is as good as they say they are or deserving of the credit most are giving them.

Not sure if this truly is the best Cinco team. The 06' team went three rounds deep barely losing to Pearland. Let's face it, the D1 R3 bracket is a lot tougher than D2 IMO. The 06' team didn't have a cake walk leading up to Pearland that year either. Someone said earlier the Jury is still out on 08' Cinco. I agree with that statement.

I personally like Cinco. I would love to see them beat eveyone in their path in the playoffs. Is 08' Cinco better than 08' Katy? Not this late in the game they aren't. I do believe they could have beaten Katy early on.

The first goal that Coach Joseph comes out and says to all the players is to go out and win district. Our motto was to win State too, One Team, One Dream...but our first goal was to win District, because if you dont excel in District, you most likely wont excel in the Playoffs.

Its a game of matchups. I truly think Cy-falls had the perfect scheme and athletes to execute it in that game. On the flip side, I think Katy would have slowed down william cole and made them punt, and if you had seen them punt there is a eason moore than half were blocked.

I think it all has to do with how a team is playing, injuries and confidence in what they are doing at the moment and you can't go back in time to see who beat whom to say how the teams stand against each other 8 games later.
North Shore's defense is better now than when they played Katy. Lufkin's defense has been solid all season but the offense hasn't been consistent. The Woodz looks the same as when Katy played them with no improvements and they aren't getting worse either. Katy has improved in all facets of the game since the Woodz matchup.

Just remember, even though it's already been somewhat mentioned, that the KT-CR game will be televised in the greater Houston area on Channel 13's digital channel 13.2. It will also be shown on Comcast digital channel 314.
DirecTv & Dish, as of right now, will not be showing the game on their systems. In order to see it on Channel 13.2 you will need a digital or HD TV & anntenna capable of pulling in that frequency. For Comcast, you will need to be a current subscriber to the package that gives you that specific channel.
The reason I am posting this is during the KT-MC game, & must have heard at least 10 people thinking that Channel 13 was going to broadcast the game on their regular channel, which would then be broadcast on all basic cable & local TV packages on DirecTv/Dish. I did inform them of what the actual situation was. All but one understood with that one person telling me I was dead wrong. I told him that if he didn't believe me, then call the station. I agree with that assesment. While I have only been able to attend three games this year because of work, which is the lowest since 2001, I too see the improvement. My thoughts are if they continue to improve they can go along way. I am just glad we got 7-8 weeks were we weren't ranked and dropped off the radar for awhile because it gave us time to regroup, focus with out the added dimension of a ranking.

I know you guys have been looking forward to this all season. Heck, I've been listening to my CR friends yammer about how this is the year they are going to beat Katy since last spring. I also know that everyone wants it to be this deathmatch that is decided in the final seconds. I don't see it. I think it may be close up until half.

Cinco wanted to come in and take the night off on Friday against the lowly Seven Lakes Spartans and had to fight until the last play to win. They wanted to rest their starters, made obvious by the bush move of kicking the onside kick after scoring an early TD, tangible proof of their lack of respect for the Spartans. Instead, they walked around in a daze and ended up in a dogfight.

I think that the emotional wrenching that game and its aftermath have caused, and will continue to cause this week, has brought some really unneeded distraction for a team playing such an important game this Saturday. The Cinco guys I know are still talking about the Seven Lakes game, not really the upcoming contest. I think it has to have softened them up a bit and has probably allowed some measure of self doubt to creep in.

I think it will focus them even more. They found a way to pull a win from swan pond. Ugly or not it will get them ready to play katy. Katy did the same thing after the took it on the chin from the woodlands. Good teams dont dwell on the past. Maybe that is the swans problems.

This is my biggest concern. If Cinco comes out doing what I think they will they should get a test this week end. I think we shut down the running game, they revert to a pass offense, making a few good plays before we adjust and then finish them off in a conviencing fashion, if the secondary comes to play.

If all of this happens I predict a Katy 45 vs. Cinco 10 game.

If you take away 2 one-handed catches the last 2 weeks there would be no pass plays over 15 yards. I will take the dinks and dunks all game. The O will make a mistake or misfire sooner or later. Will we give up a few TD passes at some point? Probably, but it is still about Ball control and outscoring your opponent. Since the Wood's fiasco we are giving up less than 10 points per game.

That was also a very fast and Athletic group of backs and recievers. I do not think there is a team that we will face with that make-up.

CR allowed a little spartan to get into their heads and poke around with a spear by letting SL get in the game and stay in the game one game before the biggest game of their season. Now CR has to play their admitted rival and nemesis, Katy. While they have the physical half to maybe play the same caliber of well-rounded football as Katy in many areas of the game the 90% mental part will be their demise. Katy coaching will pick them apart in the second half, if not sooner. I back that up by having watched 16 games last year and 7 games this year after the personnel changes were made. Katy will keep the pressure on for 4 complete qtrs and earn the district championship once again. I don't know who said it first, but "What comes around goes around". There may come a day in the future when Cinco beats Katy, but not in 2008.

Until Cinco Ranch proves something they will never have a rivalry with Katy. The only team in district that can say they have beaten Katy is Taylor...and that happened in 1995! Katy's only rivalry in recent years goes to either Southlake Carroll or Cy Falls. Cinco Ranch does not suck. They are highly overrated but they certainly do not suck.

Just as it should be. He said that the players really want to send a message this game by executing their offense effectively and dominating every facet of the game. He said the defense is very fired up. These boys are geared and ready to go for their final bout with a district opponent before reving up for the BIG game. Tonight we should see a big game from the running backs. especially hirtz. as he was sitting there talking about all of their game preperations i will admit, even I started to get FIRED UP!! felt like the old days:D If i ever thought that the focus for this week would be diminished, then i retract those statement. Thanks for the call out. To me he seemed fired up. So I assumed the rest of the team was as well. I am sorry my ASSUMPTION was wrong. Would you have not done the same?? Are you above being able to make assumptions of that sort?? I highly doubt it. If your kid were to come home and be psyched over a game, its fair to guess that you would be inclined to think the same way that i did. Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself.

If you must hang on to the grim hope that your team will make the playoffs with a LOSING record then be my guest. The game is over. You LOST and cinco WON. Even with cinco giving you 7 presents you could not pull out a W. End of story. But if you feel you must drag the provebial "ball and chain" around some more then do it on another board. Everyone is tired about hearing abut the game played 5 DAYS AGO. If you say you are all about talking football then move on to the game you have against Taylor this weekend and stop rehashing what you almost, but did not, do. Katy and Cinco are battling for the District title at all levels.

I would pick CR to win more Sub Varsity this week. They tend to keep more kids with the team of their class.

a cinco game for most fans is just a chanc to practice their social skills. there are people who sit arond us that annoy the mess out of me because they wont shut up and they dont talk about football:mad:

We finally got most of the folks to stand up and yell last Friday night, in our section. They're in for a big surprise Saturday, because our group will be standing the entire game.

Leading or trailing, we'll be a yellin'.

Well Creek only had about a 5 yard punt on their first attempt and then a 10 yard punt on their second, and my son turned around and said real loud, "Daddy, I can't punt better than this guy!" All the Creek fans that were sitting around us were pretty annoyed, but I just laughed and laughed. You have to love a childs honesty!:D

Awwwww, you gotta luv the little Tigers. I have not shushed anyone during the half time in a long time. :D But yes, I had a band student, and yes, I liked hearing them play and yes I did tell people to sit down and shut up during halftime or they could go stand by the concession stand. On that note, I also watch the game passionately and I support those kiddos just like I do my own and I will yell at folks to get off their butts and yell just as fast as I shushed them a few years ago. :D

Thanks for the call out. To me he seemed fired up. So I assumed the rest of the team was as well. I am sorry my ASSUMPTION was wrong. Would you have not done the same?? Are you above being able to make assumptions of that sort?? I highly doubt it. If your kid were to come home and be psyched over a game, its fair to guess that you would be inclined to think the same way that i did. Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself.

If you must hang on to the grim hope that your team will make the playoffs with a LOSING record then be my guest. The game is over. You LOST and cinco WON. Even with cinco giving you 7 presents you could not pull out a W. End of story. But if you feel you must drag the provebial "ball and chain" around some more then do it on another board. Everyone is tired about hearing abut the game played 5 DAYS AGO. If you say you are all about talking football then move on to the game you have against Taylor this weekend and stop rehashing what you almost, but did not, do. All this whining just sounds like a bunch of sour feelings because you LOST and are not in the same seat as katy or cinco. In all honesty it sounds more like envy then anything else.

Maybe your boys will "pony up" and send Taylor off into the sunset. Maybe they wont. Either way I dont care. Neither team should make it past the first or second round. Would be a whole lot nicer though if the 1-7-5 would have been stronger this year and we could be solidly represented deep into the playoffs by more than 1 or 2 teams. But beggers can't be choosers.

And thanks for the "bogus" remark regarding my OPINIONS. If we are going to go into that realm, shall we dig some of your past and present material up or should we let a dead dog lay? you make the call

Interesting anecdote about the Seven Lakes/Cinco game. This is probably the time and place to point it out, since I have been forbidden to ever speak of it again :outlaw. We have been saying all along that Cinco fumbled 6 times and that Seven Lakes recovered them all. Not true! I watched the first half on EHSN. After the Spartans recovered a fumble at the Cinco 7 yard line on a muffed punt return, they scored in one play on a pass to Stacks. On the ensuing kickoff, the return man was tackled by two Spartans and fumbled again! The refs called it a fumble, but it was recovered by #6 of the Cougars and was placed at the 20. Wow! Talk about woulda coulda!:eek:

Cinco played their absolute worst game of the year and it had nothing to do with the ponds or else the ponds would have forced at least one other team in district to play as bad. The ponds played their absolute best game of the season. Cinco still won the game despite both of these facts which just tells me exactly how bad the ponds is.

I should tell you that no one wants to talk about that game anymore. It makes them mad. I have been told to let it go and to never speak of that awful night again, as long as I live. :ninja:

So yes, Seven Lakes, a first-year 5-A program that came into this season 1-19 and came into the Cinco game 3-4 and 1-2 in the district, played their best game of the season against what is widely regarded as the best team that Cinco has ever fielded. This team is expected by many to unseat the Katy Tigers as reigning district champs and to become the first district opponent to beat Katy since 2005. (I think that is right). You are correct. A fledgling program played their best game of the season against a state-ranked team and still lost with 1:00 left on the clock. I guess that's all the truth.

Now stop talking about it or someone might say I am whining, when all I am doing is agreeing with you.

Seven Lakes is doing better than expected. They will get better. Just look at the program coach O'Keefe put in place at Hightower. It is paying dividends.

Toughen up? I could care less about him. He's just a kid. The only problem I have with him is that he reminds me of that "know it all" type of person that we all hate. It just seems like he constantly wants to nit pick your comments to death and then if you even slightly disagree with him he'll put the gloves on go raking you over the coals. He got onto Dynasty the other day for starting an "Official Katy Thread" instead of posting comments on the new 17-5A thread. Why should he care if someone else posts a new thread? I've just grown tired of him and could really care less about him at this point.

Hes still obviously young, and has some growing up to do. But like most poster hell learn. I like some of his post and is very knowledgable about the program, but he also will snap or try and make someone feel stupid for disagrreing with him.
