Congrats to Strake players and coaches. I will be rooting for them now that my Rangers are done. Dallas Jesuit plays Plano next week in their final game. It has been a tough season for my Rangers, with games against Plano, Allen, Wylie, Hebron, Coppell, South Garland, and Plano West. I don't know if this is true or not, but I think all of them made the playoffs this season. Hopefully, Strake Jesuit will make a run in the playoffs.

No. Even if we lose next week, we beat Memorial head to head so we would still be district champions.
Congrats on the win over Elsik. I thought you'll would take it. Elsik and Alief Taylor will be playing for the fourth spot next week

O true. Grats on district Champs. Ya our defense stepped up BIG.. Jonathon Baron had a fumble recovery. and i cant remember the other one. Jerry Young had 2 int's. and our D-line stuffed them twice on 4 and inchs on our like 10 yard line.. Elsik's offense line is big. they got a good running back but our game plan really helped.
Our offense stepped on the gas second half, having 1st down after 1st down to run the clock out.
Ya elsik vrs alief taylor is going to be an INTENSE game next week. i wouldnt be surprised if some personal flag's get thrown cause elsik plays dirty. Cheap shot on campbell colyer after the play was dead and jerry young getting punched in the jaw after the interception(after he was tackled).

Congrats - yall deserved it... Outplayed us when it counted... Wish it was like the world series... But all deserved it... Enjoy it - we're in a 3 year drought... But it looks like our Current Freshmen may be the class to watch - undefeated and dominating (I think they beat Stratford like 28-3 or something with a less complex offense than varsity)... Anyways good luck in the playoffs Strake, it appears that we wont run into each other so I will be pulling for yall in every game

we played so bad the first half... We just werent focused at all in the first half... If the half was about 40 seconds shorter we woulda been down 7-0 at halftime
And ur welcome - it helped us avoid Katy in round 1 so thank you for winning ;)

congrats to Strake on the district title. well earned.
I know Stratford is looking forward to next Friday night. The way things have turned out, the game will make no difference in playoff seeding, so expect two coaches to play a lot of kids and not show a lot of new stuff, so it could be almost like a scrimmage rather than an intense week ten game.
But I still think Stratford / Strake has the potential to be a nice rivalry game down the line.
good luck in the playoffs and good luck on friday night.

Here is a question, that is off topic, but towards 78... When was the last time Stratford made the play offs three straight years, possibly 87 88 89, Since I wasn't born, born and 1 during those years I donno? Congrats to Strake again, Hard to believe that the same team that my older brother watched GET DESTROYED by Aston and the Katy Tigers now atop 18-5A.

Thanks 78 Spartan. I think it has the making for a nice rivalry as well. I know quite a few of the kids know one another through baseball, and other little league sports. We will have to move some kids up to have enough to make full substitutions. We only carry about 35 on varsity. Good luck to you'll and Memorial as well.

I started to look into it and its hard to believe that this is the FIRST time SHS has been to the post season three straight years and a lot of credit to the coaches and to the players for continuing this awesome streak SHS is currently on. 7 years ago a group of guys came together and went after the goal to get rid of the banner in the weight room that said "NEXT?" after the many playoff banners from the 80's. Im proud to say that that group of guys were my buddies and class mates and are the main reason why i went to Stratford as opposed to following my brother to Jesuit. After last years run I looked at this years team and was very confident in their abilities but had some worries that maybe the Alief schools will be right there with them and claim two of those spots. This group of dedicated Seniors as well as a very talented group of Juniors continued this new growth of tradition at Stratford. Congrats to Strake again well done and I will for sure be there for the Strake game because I'm willing to miss the Baylor game for the Strake game.
Lets keep this streak alive! :notworthy

I am from the DFW area so I am not familiar with Houston football, so I ask the question is Strake really a legitimate contender in the playoffs or is the district weak ? I only ask this because the Dallas Jesuit team would be considered only an average 5A team in the DFW area. They play hard , but they give up about 40 points a game and I think they won 3 games this year. I assume both schools get the same kind of players .

i'd say that Strake is a solid team, but not one of the best. They have many solid athletes and some good linemen but what they lak is probably a lot of depth. I don't know the number of Dallas Jesuit kids that go to D1 schools but Strake has been known to send a few every once in awhile. They have a way of getting good athletes ala Chris Ogbonnaya. Right when they got to UIL while my brother was there they struggled heavily but since have done nothing but win a hand full of games and have had success in the other districts and in the play offs but have never won district.
To answer your question fully, maybe alittle bit of both. Looking at the other schools in the district, Memorial is always a solid, unbelievably well coached team that has had success in essentially this district and Stratford has a new found sense of tradition as a better team but have the enrollment of a 4A school and infact dropped but were moved back up and also lost Andrew Luck who is a once in a lifetime kind of player. I think Strake is a very good team, and would they win District in another one? Maybe maybe not but they would make the play offs in any district I bet.

No and yes. Strake may win 2 or 3 games in the PO's....But only cuz the lower half of Reg 3/Div 2 is very weak. So they may look like a contender, but I really do not think they are.
18-5A is not a strong District. Not trying to bring them down, but look who they have beat and lost to outside of their District. No wins over any teams that are very good. Stratford has played good in District, but they will probably get blown out in the 1st round of the PO's. Again, not a shot at them, just the truth.

OK, please understand that I am NOT looking past the Blue. However, I am new at this, so I need some guidance.
If Seven Lakes and Morton Ranch both win this weekend, then Seven Lakes will play Strake and Katy will play Stratford.
If Seven Lakes and Mayde Creek both win, then Seven Lakes will play Stratford and Mayde Creek will play Strake.
Is this correct?
I think Strake will make the region final. They don't have a lot of depth, due to their enrollment size, but I don't think anyone other than Madison can challenge them in the lower half of the bracket. The winner of that game in the second round will decide who makes it to the region final I think.

trivia question... Who is the only team in Region 3 to never allow more than 20 points in 1 game?
Memorial! And almost all the teams we have played avg more than 20 points a game...
Just throwing it out there ;)
Over the last 4 games we average how many points?
32.4 and thats with pulling our starters at halftime or the end of the 3rd in most of those games...
Hastings is the exception but we didnt show up until after halftime for that game...

Well, no offense to your Spartans, but my analysis comes from having grown accustomed to seeing Mayde Creek or Taylor occupy that lower bracket. After seeing both teams' sporadic play this season, I don't think either of them could hang with what should be an 8-1 Strake team. Seven Lakes seems to be doing something right as the regular season winds down, so if they sneak into the playoffs maybe they could shock the Crusaders.

I have no idea how good they are (Strake). No understanding at all as to how they compare to Cinco or Katy.
I watched that tape today of the 7Lakes/Cinco game. Spartans offense moved the ball much better against Cinco than against Katy. I think they are just a lot better now than they were then, probably as a result of playing Katy and having to come from behind to beat MR. I am interested to see if playing Cinco so well will translate into even more confidence. Could be coming together, but need more consistency still and they have zero depth.

I know... We would have played Pearland and Westfield had hurricane Ike not hit... Its not like we didnt try to play good teams... Its hard to say that anyone in region 3 really has played a good team though... The lack of non district games makes it hard to judge teams right now...

I graduated from Westchester in '82. Spring Branch District was a top District back then. Stratford had won State, Memorial in Finals next year, Westchester had #1 D in State that same year. Stratford goes back to State after merger with Westchester a few years later.
And only 1 team went to playoffs. We tied 2 games in '79 and stayed home!

I did some checking, this would be our first district title ever. The year of hurricane we finished with one lost in district to Cinco Ranch. Katy was district champs with no loses. I think what was confusing was we were name bi-district champs because we beat FB Marshall that year in the first round of the play-offs. A lot of folks miss took that with having something to do with the then 18-5a district championship.

The Marshall game was an exciting game and a great win for the Crusaders but the game that knocked us out of the playoffs, against Cy-Falls, was equally exciting. On the last play of the game a 5 yard pass from Tim Bandy to Steven Tyree was deflected/dropped at the back of the end zone. That TD would haven given Jesuit the win. I believe Cy Falls went to the Regional Finals that year. I also remember the Katy Tiger fans coming out to support 19-5A.

I believe Cy Falls went to the Regional Finals that year. I also remember the Katy Tiger fans coming out to support 19-5A.Strake was good that year. Rita caused Cinco the playoffs because of the non game with Hastings. I was cheering for Cinco for obvious reasons - mainly the DC for Katy was at stake. The win against Marshall was unbeliveable - mainly because of the D1 players they had. Your close loss to Cy Falls that year was telling. Katy had to come from way behind to beat them in a game with very little time left. IMO - poor coaching on Falls side.
Andy Dalton was thrilling in 05'
How greatly will Strake's lack of depth hinder them in the playoffs? I can't decide for sure yet whether they'll beat Madison in the second round, but if they do, can they handle two more games to possibly make it to the state semi-finals? Completely disregarding who they could play in the later rounds, is the conditioning of the players and program geared towards deeper playoff runs yet?

Anyone? The UIL does not determine District Championships. The individual UIL districts have a district executive committee that determines the champ or co-champ. They set their own rules. They could do a head to head or a coin flip to determine the champ and/or the seeding.
Just look at 235a. They don't have their week 10 games determined yet. They devided their 10 team district into 2 zones and are having two playoff teams from each zone. All done by the district executive committee.
185a has a district executive committee comprised of representavive from SBISD, AISD, and Strake Jesiut. What ever the committee determines is the final say.
I remember coming back from the Alief Taylor game in '05 and the rumor going around on the bus was that if Strake beat Cinco then Katy and Strake would have a coin flip deciding who advanced to the playoffs while the other stayed home.
Sure scared us. :D

Let's see how it plays out on the field. However, if the Crusaders had lost the game to Memorial and finished as the top two teams at the END of the year, they would congratulate Memorial on their District championship. If Stratford's only loss was to Memorial and they beat Jesuit on Friday then there would be Co-District Champs. In my mind there is no tie if two teams finish with identical records and it was settled between them on the field. The discussion in 2005 was only happening because there was no meeting on the field.

Who is everyone? Looks like after this football season we will be even in UIL football playoff appearances and District Championships. We did notice your District Championship in '04. Belated congratulations. You have a tough road now with the Collin County crowd. Sort of how we felt with the Cy Fair and Katy bunch. :)
