Carroll always seems to have a good O-Line even though they are not recognized as such. Returning starters will help. WR's abound in this town. Don't know about LBs. Looking forward to a great year.

In reference to the question about Reliant. I saw a post from the Reliant Stadium manager on twitter mentioning their interest in looking into purchasing artificial turf to be used for State Championship weekend. But, I do believe SA is next up in the rotation for two years. We shall see how it plays out. Obviously money drives the boat on this.

I used to think there was a rotation but I thought I heard somewhere that Cowboy Stadium was going to be the new home of the UIL state championships. I could be wrong but I bet coach Ozee would know.

Interesting. I haven't seen anything official one way or the other. I guess I just assumed especially since I saw that tweet about Reliant looking into turf. Time shall tell.

The girls won again this morning in the Elite Tournament being held at various spots in Tarrant County. Carroll outscored Palo Duro by a margin of 12-0 at Dragon Stadium.
The game this evening at TCU, 8:00pm. will match Carroll against Rosary, California. This might prove to be a pretty good game, but I am a bit soccered out at the moment, so I think I might just go watch the boys and girls play basketball instead.

Carroll girls defeated Clear Lake by a score of 1-0 in the Elite Sports Tournament this afternoon, scoring the go-ahead goal with but 3:45 left in the game. That gives the Lady Dragons a 4-0 mark in the tournament for 2012.
I believe the boys are playing for the championship of the Berkner Tournament this evening.

Swim/Dive Teams Hosts "Battle of 1709" Thursday
The Carroll Swimming and Diving team will host the 1st annual "Battle of 1709" vs. Keller on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the C.I.S.D. Aquatics Center. As I understand, that is Carroll vs all the Keller high schools Keller, Ridge, Central and Timber Creek.
For Carroll, it will also be Senior Night for 28 seniors competing in their last home dual meet. The senior recognition will start at 6 p.m. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Carroll girls defeated Mansfield Summit last night 4-0 in the Arlington Tournament; they play again at 9:00 this morning against Colleyville at their place.
Basketball injuries finally caught up to the girls last night as playing with two starters out resulted in a one point loss to Keller. The boys had no more success either, as they also lost to the Indians. :(
On a brighter note relative to Keller, the Carroll swimming and diving teams, both boys and girls, completely dominated their meet with all the Keller schools Thursday evening, winning all save two events.

It will be interesting to see where he lands, I wouldn't think Tech would be at the top of his list but I have no idea.
I loved Tech when ya'll had the Pirate running things.
I am a half arsed TCU fan because of Panther but they are loaded with QB's for the next few years.
I would love to see him run Oregon's offense but if he were to go to Baylor with Briles could be exciting.
I cannot bring myself to be an Aggie fan but Summerlins offense might fit Kenny's still set.
The only offer I know of for sure at this point is Tech.

The boys were rained/lightning out tonight in soccer. On the other hand, the weather was fine in the gym at Carroll. Awesome defense!
While the defense has been good, the ability to keep the pressure on offense limits the other team's scoring chances. The other team will often have to drop more people back on defense which limits their offensive numbers. All in all, a good team effort all around.
Maybe the girls can pick up where the boys left off last year!:D

Hey, It's all in the name of supporting the kids. Some of the lesser publicized sports only get the parental involvement, so it's always nice when the kids know there are folks there supporting them beyond that.

I love the 2011 team but I have to take the '06 team by 10. Riley's offense was wide open, had Tre' at RB, Cantu and others at WR and that defense was freaky with Padron. I think they would have given this years OL some fits and that group of DB's was excellent. '11's defense was salty but Riley and Co just had too many weapons and of course TD calling the plays.
'11 has been my favorite team though since everything they did was unexpected and they over achieved and got better each week. This team went 16-0 and only has 4 seniors being recruited. In terms of other potential recruits among returners obviously Kenny will get a DI scholarship, Drew Hill the kicker and possibly AJ Ezzard.
The '06 team had more talent and that 4-3 with Kenny running quite a bit would have stopped him more successfully than other teams we played.

The Texas Sports Writers Association has released its Class 5A All-State team and the Dragons are well represented. One of the top accolades went to Dragon senior linebacker Will Davis who was named 5A Defensive Player of the Year. Davis, who plans to sign with Kansas State on Wednesday, was a standout on a Dragon defense that shined in Carroll’s 5A Division I State Championship run. Davis, (6-foot-1, 210 puonds) finished with 160 tackles, four sacks and 16 tackles this season.
First-Team All-State selections included junior quarterback Kenny Hill, senior wide receiver Sabian Holmes and senior offensive tackle J.J. Prince. Senior receiver Peyton Williams was selected honorable mention. Holmes was also chosen honorable mention defensive back.
:heli:
(Yet none could quite measure up to the Star-Telegram's standards for their all-area team.)

I believe his path has been: Texas State=>Baylor=>Aggie. I think this is the last stop.

Guys... aTm was one of the first schools to talk to him, but Sherm wanted him as a CB. He was being recruited by Sumlin @ UH as a WR, so when Sumlin asked him to consider aTm as a WR he jumped @ the offer...

Allen is a given. I would like to see Coppell back on the schedule as well. I know in the past people said Coppell refused to play us in pre-district but I don't expect that to be a problem with the current staff. I would think our third game would another school from District 5 or District 10 since they need games. If I had to guess, I would say one of the Plano schools since they are in Region 2 and we won't have to worry as much about seeing them in the future. I bet Skyline would like another shot at us.

The UIL, for its many faults, does not like to create districts with an odd number of teams, if at all possible. Doing so results in one of the district teams having an out-of-district game (or possibly an open week) every week in the second half of the season.

Northwest at home

Temple away (if at Cowboy Stadium, I am willing to consider that a home game.)

Temple had a better district showing, at 5-2. The only common opponent was Cove, and Cove won 49-42, at Temple. First Round Exit courtesy of Longview, 24-3.

In the first half, of the girls soccer game this evening, the Lady Dragons took a 1-0 lead over Keller. With just under 33 minutes remaining in the second half, there was a thirty minute lightning delay before the game resumed. After the delay, Carroll scored two additional goals for a final of 3-0 over the Lady Indians. Several play stoppages during the last minutes of the game, as thing were getting a bit vocal from the stands against the official.
I also understand that the Carroll boys and girls both won their basketball games tonight against Saginaw by 15 points or so each. I don't have the actual scores.

I was just messing around I am one of those that believe the SEC is head and shoulders above everyone else.
Temple has always had talent but could not convert that to wins. They have a good coach and are improving so they should not be taken lightly but in terms of a legitimate threat for a deep playoff run type team they are not there yet. Early in the season strange things can happen.

I always predict us to win state! :D Honestly though, at 6-0 we had yet to face Sloppell, Central, or Guyer. I wasn't thinking state at that point at all, although the win at NW in game 6 was a stronger showing than in the prior two weeks. I was only thinking about winning each contest each Friday night and had fingers crossed we could eventually (possibly) get to 10-0 and win the outright District Title. I did NOT want to share it with Guyer! And then after viewing the D1 bracket...I knew it would be really tough...I thought State for the first time when I saw the comeback over Bowie. After the first 23 minutes...and then to man up and come back and win that thing...I told Mrs.SLCwolverine that these guys will NOT be denied...and then with only a few heartbeats left vs Skyline...un-freaking-believable...I know, I'm typing too much, I could go on for quite a while, actually. :heli: One more note...last summer, I told Mrs.SLCwolverine that Carroll had played 584 games in its history...and wouldn't it be nice to play 16 this year and have number 600 be the title game? She gave me the 'Yes, Dear' without looking up. So maybe I was thinking State in July?

The Carroll game against Temple is being played at Cowboys Stadium as part of a series of both high school and college games over the 14th and the 15th of this coming September. I don't know about the start time yet, but have no reason to doubt the 8:00pm time.

He's a good looking third baseman and looked very comfortable at the plate. Dragon pitching was excellent. We have a good looking team but struggled at the plate. I would have stayed, but am flying out for a few days. Decided to leave tonight for some reason. Anyway, it was good to see my boy on the bump, y'all got him for two runs in the fourth. Otherwise, he looked fine for February. These two teams looked very good this early and we will most likely see each other again. Again, really impressed with your first three pitchers.

Carroll 9th grade/JV2 ended in a tie with Coppell in the opening game this evening at Dragon Stadium. The JV2 Lady Dragons fell behind by a score of 3-1 and were stuck there until with about three minutes left in the game. Then an offensive monsoon struck. Inside of about two minutes, the Lady Dragons scored three goals to take a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately, the cowgirls managed a comeback with about one minute left to end up in a 4-4 tie.
The next two games were against Northwest tonight. In the JV match, it was never even an issue as the Lady Dragons went on an 8 - 0 run.
In the varsity game, the Lady Dragons also kicked a shut out of the Lady Texans by a margin of 4 - 0.
The Dragons boys soccer squad played the Texans at their place, coming home with a 3 - 0 victory.
In basketball, the Lady Dragons defeated guyer tonight at Carroll, 57-42; the Dragons also defeated the wildcats by a score of 55 - 46.

I surrender. I don't know of any players who enjoy spring football. At least that was true at the collegiate level a long time ago. All your other friends are heading to the river in the afternoons, or up into the mountains, and you're stuck sweating and running your butt off on the practice fields. Not fun. In high school in the '60s, none of us even thought about spring football; it wasn't allowed. We were all busy with track and field or baseball. On the other hand, college and high school coaches seem to think spring football is invaluable.
So perhaps if Carroll is on a real roll on the diamond, KH will play baseball throughout the spring for the Dragons. I don't know; neither Larry Hughes nor Hal Wasson checked in with me; short-sighted of them I realize. But having your starting QB not out for spring football would seem substantially to degrade the purpose of having that practice time to begin with. Especially the case when a new batch of receivers will be called on in the fall. Perhaps, KH can do some of both.

Dragon state champion diver Bryce Klein left for Germany on Tuesday to compete in the USA Grand Prix International Meet. Klein is the youngest of the 13 divers qualified for this event. Klein, a junior, is also a member of the Olympic training team for the 2016 Olympics and this competition serves as his first meet in preparation for his upcoming team.
Best of luck to Bryce. Unfortunately, it means that Carroll will not have his potential points available in either the Regional meet this Saturday or at the State meet in Austin later this month.

He made a facebook post earlier in the day mentioning how the competition is tomorrow.
I spoke to his mom a few years ago and she was telling us about all the competitions and what not he was already in, knew it was only a matter of time before something like this came along. Best of luck Bryce!

Dragon swimmers, both boys and girls easily swam away from all other teams competing in the Region 2, swim meet today at the Colony, exceeding the nearest competitor by a few hundred points each. Of the 24 events contested today by both the boys and girls combined, Carroll qualified swimmers in at least 18 events. On the basis of time, for those events for which they did not receive an automatic bid to State in Austin, I think the times achieved will advance the Dragons in at lest two other events. Not too shabby today. However, I am now convinced that there is no sport like swimming when it comes to dragging out a competition - something over four hours today. Makes high jumpers and pole vaulters seem like they just rocket along in their competitions. But I suppose, the efforts put forth by all the kids in the pool makes it worth supporting the. Now it will be off to Austin in two weeks!!

It can be pretty hard to beat a quality basketball team three times in a single season; twice is sufficiently difficult. Yet that was the challenge facing the Lady Dragons tonight in the Area Round playoff game against 12th ranked Timberview. Playing at what will be one of our new 4A district rivals beginning next year, Richland High School, the Lady Dragons looked as if the conventional wisdom might be applicable this evening. The girls trailed Timberview by as many as 15 in the first half, closing out the second period down by 11. Another slow start. :( Yet these ladies did not fold. Thet came back strong in the second half to manage a tie game when the 4th quarter buzzer sounded sending the game into OT. In the OT period, the Carroll girls managed to open up a 4 point margin and hold on for the win tonight. :heli: Now it's on to Round 3.

I was thinking about taking this afternoon off to go watch the Dragons play against Bell at Rangers Ballpark. The schedule indicates this as a scrimmage game...and I know we usually open the season in the tourney in Austin, which it indicates again this year...but I'm hoping that's a typo and this is actually the first game? Or is it truly a scrimmage at the Ballpark? Does anyone know for sure? Thanks-

I will be there as my daughter is on the team. Bring lots of warm clothes as it looks like it will be chilly.
Right now the girls are 1 point behind Fossil Ridge for 1st place. Ridge has already played SLC twice (split) and Coppel (beat them twice) so we really need to win to have a chance to finish first in the district. Even then, we will need Ridge to lose or tie a game for us to overtake them (if we win out). Winning district is huge since the first round playoffs are against 8-5A opponents. 1vs4, 2vs3, etc. Both districts are really strong with the top three teams. There is a little drop with the 4th place team so it really it important to try and get the #1 seed.
Heres hoping for decent weather and a safe game for both sides. The JV1 and Jv2 games should also be very competitive.

Good for them. Where is the divisional contest?
The Varsity have two more contests - the next is 3/24 in Aledo, and the Championship is in Forney on 3/30.
Normally they compete a little closer to home. I probably won't get to see them again this year, but I wish them luck - they have done really well this year.

For people who want to know, my son Ryan Williams will be playing at Texas State and will be the starting deep snapper. He will be scholarshiped after he plays one season. My son Randy Williams will play his last season at Cisco and will be playing safety and RB. He is currently on a full ride scholarship. For those who don't know them, Ryan played for Carroll 2007-2009 and Randy 2007-2010. Not trying to toot my horn just felt this would be a good way of communicating.

The Carroll girls won their softball games yesterday at Arlington Martin by a score of 10-1; they followed up that with a victory today over Kennedale actually played at the school on their own field by a score of 7- 2. I believe that is the first game the varsity has managed to play on their own field this season. The games are typically played at Bob Jones Park since the attempt to put lights on the fields at Carroll, graciously donated to the school, was met with opposition several years back.

Great news and we had spoken about it previously. It will be interesting to see where Randy lands after this season. You Panther and I need to road trip and see some games.
For those of you out there that want hear the highs and lows of recruiting, trials and tribulations talk to Gasman. It is proof positive that if your son wants to play at the next level it can be done, there are lots of options but it is a ton of work.

You are in, we had plans to do it last year not only that but you are the most responsible one of the 4 of us, so we may actually have a legitimate designated driver, we also have to make a trip to Cisco. slcdragonfan in Cisco should be an interesting day. :D

I have been to Cisco many times, had to drive through there to go to the old deer lease, so every hunting season for 3 years went to Cisco several times a year. Hey I might have been a city guy from NY but I own camo and guns and stuff now. Of course I only wear camo when I hunt so not considered a wardrobe item. :D

Tech plays TSU Sept 8th. A couple of us have thought about driving down there for a 6th Street/Tech game combo. I'd love to see Pants stumbling and bumbling down 6th street.
Congrats to both of the kids Gasman!

Thanks to everyone and it has been a hard road for both of my sons. Pants is right, if you want to play at the next level, you can and it is a lot of work. Sometimes it is very discouraging. I am mostly proud of them making good grades in college. For those interested in the Tech/Texas State opener in San Marcus, rumor has it that the one and only George Strait will be playing at half time. I will be going nuts this year trying to make as many games on Saturdays. Thanks again to everyone for your support and as always go Dragons!!!!!:)

Went to Chris Sailer's Kicking Camp at Cedar Hill Saturday. I went to watch one of my young Grandsons kick. The most impressive kicker was Ty Cummings. He has one 'ell of a leg. The Dragons are blessed to have him. One of my Grandsons was helping with the camp. He is a scholarship player at West Virginia. Josh was very impressed with the young man also.
We will be following him this coming year.

I am one and the same. Josh did his official visit last week and was impressed, both with the campus and the coaching staff. I imagine the Dragons will continue their winning tradition again this coming year.

If you were planning on heading out to the Carroll ball games this evening, I'm afraid they have been postponed to another day. No softball and no baseball tonight. However, soccer will be played at Dragon Stadium this evening, barring any other weather excitement. The varsity girls will be home playing Saginaw.; the 9th grade will be hosting Guyer.

Softball game with Saginaw that was postponed yesterday will be played this evening at 6:30 at Saginaw High School.

This means two of the best QB's in the state next year are close neighbors. Cody Thomas (CHHS). Hope they match up next year in the playoffs.

I thought so too. You should recognize those players too, the one on the left is Peyton Williams and the one on the right is Will Davis. They were impact players this year.

They sure were, I was wondering which one was Davis, he left a very good impression. I hope the two will continue their football at the college level and wish the best for them.
