Same graduating year, obviously. Most leave for TAMS during their Soph. year and don't return.
Nobody from the top 10 in her class went to TAMS this time.
I see. Someone should have a talk with them about acting with class when their old high school wins a football game...
I have yet to see any Carroll people in the class below mine, although I know a number of current sophomores are considering coming up here.

Seriously, fellas, TAMS shams. I'm fans of both of ya but you're wearing me out.:D Can we redirect to girls volleyball making a run, the cross country team headed to state again or, perhaps, the game on Saturday? It's kinda important.;)

Well, it's double for me. Louisiana playoffs start this weekend as well. ECA is ranked #2 in powerratings. They have the #31 ranked team coming to Shreveport Friday to be schooled on scoring. lol. They'll have an easy week this week. But still, it's the playoffs. My favorite time of year. Next to..uh.. No, this is it. My favorite season. 2nd season.
Ima have to get with you before this weekend so we can meet up and stuff. I dont know where anything is in DFW. I'll give you a shout prolly wed or thurs. so we can make a plan.
Sounds good.. Just let me know..

Since pretty much everyone else in the state hates our two teams and since both our teams are having problems this year and everyone has written us both off - how about we both put a run together and agree to meet at Reliant in December. Talk about making everyone else madder that wet hornets. We both know the path - lets do it.:D
Sounds great to me... That'll shut em up... Uh well on second thought it proly wont..:D

Bragging about being ranked #2 in class 1A!

I recall that most of the students that went to TAMS from her class were first generation Asian. Maybe not into football much.
Of course, TAMS is the high school without a football team so it may be a good place for those students. :D

I think this team will pull through despite what has happened with injuries, coaching, etc. The JV black team was undefeated this season and will bring alot of talent to the team next year. Evidently, there must be alot of talent on the Freshman team. There was only 4 JV black players pulled up to varsity and 7 from the freshman team. There is still alot of players from the JV black that I thought would be pulled up and were not. Most of the JV black players consider this as a slap in the face, (no offense to the freshman players). The JV black feels they have paid their dues and did not get the honor to travel with the varsity during the play offs. Any thouhgts?

That may or may not be the right way to handle the situation but the days of entire jv squads coming up for the playoffs are over. Carroll dresses so many players of the varsity anyway that the sideline gets a little ridiculous come the second season. 4 does sound incredibly low, though. With all the juniors on this team, as well as a few sophs, and this kid of representation by the frosh Wasson is making a clear statement. It says we're not going anywhere and, in fact, things could be real scary for the rest of y'all, real quick. I hope his staff is up to the task of harvesting this fertile crop.

Tell the JV black to get over it. Doesn't make a difference. they'll get their chance in the Spring. They didn't earn the right this year. When Dodge was there the JV green got pulled up, and sometimes he'd bring up some fish (padron, 2 fords in 03). No fish were pulled up in 04 and 05 that I recall. other than RD and Tre. Not a big deal. If they think it's a slap in the face, they should consider themselves lucky that it's not a kick in the a$$. How fortunate are they to be in a program with 2 JV teams??? They could be one of 75. Yuk.

Thanks for replying SLC93. Traditionally 10 JV black players are brought up to varsity during the playoffs. Usually those players are those who have shown strong leadership and that they are talented players. Usually there are not any freshman, at least there were none last year. I know of at least 6 players on the JV black that meet these qualifications. I just don't understand why Coach Wasson decided on the freshman instead of the JV black. I am also concerned about team morale. Some players have commented about quiting and some parents are not happy about it either. Those freshmen players will not get any playing time but it is the principle of having the priviledge of seniority stripped away from you. The JV black players feel their undefeated seson was in vain and that the coaching staff does not think very highly of them. I also learned that their decision was position specific.

Hey all...feels good to be back and see the Dragons in the hunt again. I've been reading this thread all day, and I have to say, I like the addition of "colorful" pictures!
What prompted me to post is the discussion about the sub-varsity players being called up. Does seem kind of strange, but that is Coach W's decision. As far as players and parents talking about quitting, well, maybe they're not Dragon material anyway. Can't always get what you want, but if you try real hard.......
Good luck to the Dragons on Saturday, and a little less luck to the Panthers!

It's not a question of whether they are Dragon material, they had a undefeated season!!!!. They should have been recognized and were not. These guys will get over it because they are DRAGONS and hold on to your seat when they are on varsity. They are going to be a sight to see and so will the freshman.:notworthy

Yes one of those players that shouldve been moved up was Randy Williams. He played very well this season and showed his talent and athleticism this season for JV Black and was supposed to play with JV Green from what I heard. Gotta tell you, I have a problem with this. Unlike earlier in most Dragon youth sports programs where everyone gets a year end trophy so no one feels left out, this is high school athletics. Not everyone gets to continue playing after the regular season just because the varsity makes the play-offs.
Some kids look at the omission and hit the weightroom and gym. If others believe quitting is the answer with possible parental support, perhaps it speaks of why they weren't selected in the first place...

I think all of that is legitimate. You never want to alienate members of your team and there is alot to be said for making the frosh pay their dues. Tell the kids to hang in there and not let an oversight or lapse in judgement derail them from all thay've worked for throughout their years in the program. to the pentinant man goes the spoils......or something profound like that.:)

You are misunderstanding. These guys worked just as hard as everyone else did. None of them are expecting to play, they all looked forward in traveling with the varsity and being a part of it. Every player whether a fresh or JV black dream of this when they are that age. That is why we keep the TRAdition here in SLC! I also thought that Austin Bridges shouldve been moved up. What an outstanding cornerback.:)

No, it does not mean that they will be undefeated. I can tell you this, it starts out in pee- wee football where hard work is taught at an early age. These players that have played together since that time are usually outstanding in hih school because they learn how to function as a team. I believe they will do very well when they are on the varsity.

We are entering through gate 8... We will be on the side with sections 7-12.. The home side I believe..
incorrect. We are on the visitors side. Do not I repeat do not park on the Gate 8 side unless you have no Dragon propaganda on your vehicle.
Carroll is always on the visitor side and enter through 3 or 4, only one will be open.

(or influence... kinda like an election year for HC Hal)
As for the freshman... ya, Loaded.
I hope I'm missing the point on this one--surely you don't mean that you think money or influence had anything to do with the freshmen being pulled up? Because if that's what you meant, that's really offensive to these kids who have worked so hard and played their hearts out all season long.
I can definitely understand why the sophomores are upset, because everybody works hard and they had a great season and they have a lot of talented players. I'm sure nobody was more surprised than the freshmen themselves when they got pulled up, but what were they supposed to do, say oh no thanks, I don't deserve it, let a sophomore have the spot? For whatever reason, Coach saw something that he wanted to develop in these boys, and it's an honor for them. It's a shame that some people with "sour grapes" would try to take anything away from their accomplishments.

I am sorry gentlemen, it it gone. It has come to an end. As the Good Dr. stated so eloquently a couple of years back: "enjoy the improbable nature of this amazing run and understand that one day it, like all good things will come to an end."
If nothing else, the lack of some of your presences on this website should dramatically enhance the perception of Southlake by those without an opinion.
I hope that everyone has a safe drive and enjoys the game, if not the result. Just a last item to clear the air: The players that commit so much to have the opportunity to perform on such a stage every week are to have our respect for their commitment and hard work. They have my fullest admiration for what they do.

What a noob. :D
But seriously, traditionally the players dye their hair blonde and get to wear the black pants once playoffs start.
A lot of sports do something different to "commemorate" start of playoffs, soccer did mohawks, soccer girls did pink strip of dye in hair, cross country does some weird leg tan thing or something, idk.
It's "team" building and helps them all be knit together as well as show their part of something.

Forgive him. Due to the place his passion lies he is unfamiliar with what a run, a true run, looks like. At this point making the 4th round once every decade and a half, or so, is his definition of a run. Thing is when our run "died", i.e. the 4A years, we still won 66% of our games, including district & regional championships. What folks need to do is better acquaint themselves with a dictionary, as well as a thesaurus. If they choos to insist something is over, they would be better served to say that our epic, unrivaled streak in 5A appears to have dwindled. That's a tad more accurate. At this point we have as much chance to win a title as anyone. If we do, is the run "back on"? What if we don't this year but do next season? A program like ours, or Permian's, or Plano's, or Katy's, or Judson's is not measured by a season here or a season there. It's measured by decadeds and titles. For those that aren't a part of something like that, it's a little difficult to comprehend. For all of our "struggles" in the post Dodge era, we're 18-4 with a district title, 2 playoff appearances and several wins in the second season. All accomplished under the scrutiny of a powerful microscope, the kind that doesn't bother looking at nice, little programs. Name the last district title they put in their trophy case. What's been overcome in the last 2 seasons, thus far, has been enough to sink most teams. Yet the kids and coaches persevere. That is the mark of a champion. That is what ensures that nothing is ever really over. That is what builds confidence. That is what seperates us from them.

All of the JV Green were pulled up, which is appropriate. The head coach makes the decisions, but I just don't understand his decision. There is just as much talent on the JV black as there is on the freshmen. Maybe he is expiriementing? In all fairness maybe he should of pulled up 5 freshmen and 5 JV black. I will always be proud of the Dragons.:notworthy Thanks for all the disscusion.

I just want to point out the best CB to ever play at SLC is a coach at CHHS. He is coaching Fresh/JV i believe, but he is also helping coach Varsity CB's.
Maybe he gave them inside information......

Colleyville could be getting information from current CB's and it would not save them from a but whipping tomorrow. Our guys have lost a couple of games this year so everyone thinks they are an expert on our team. they think the defense is weak. Well we know better. Colleyville isn't Hebron. Like other spread teams we have played, they are going down. Mentally they are already beat. There band will be in IN and they have NEVER beat SLC.

I really like that we have former Dragons on staff with Murdoch & Lineweaver. I'd like to see them joined soon by Mr. Johnson. Imagine little Dodge will be looking to break in 4 years from now. Having great players who are actually great coaches and lived this experience on staff means something, imo. As they become available, I'd like to see more.

We have alot of otstanding coaches at SLC. Just like I said with the players starting at pee-wee level and sticking together through high school, it makes a difference in team. This tradition carries on when one of those players becomes a coach later in life.:)

well now I am really confused (seems like a habit these days). I was told when I got my tickets today that we were to enter Gate 3, which is the Western side. So now what?
DB- we are on the side that we always sit, with the exception in recent memory of the Plano war 4 years ago. I have no idea what gate that is but I do have a backyard way of getting to that parking area...

Flinging it around in the NFL for a few years will definitely give him plenty of start up capital to become a very wealthy capitalist!
Seriously, he can really help a lot of NFL teams... My gosh if our Dallas Cowboys can trot Brad Johnson out to start a game, there has to be a home for Chase.

Chase W and Aaron have given their best to motivate and teach, the coaches have done all they can to prepare and teach, our legacy has instilled everything a young athlete must understand, so the only thing left to ask....
Is it in you, young Dragons?
I have watched you grow, my friends, from pee-wee to peeps, go out and give a performance of a lifetime, you are, and always will be, an amazing memory in my life...

I want to continue where I left off.
Teams we have played this year:
Cinco Ranch - got to round two in a blowout;
Arlington - got to Round 2 in a shutout;
Coppell - Got to Round 2 pretty solidly (don't know final score);
Hebron - squeaked into Round 2, but we all know they are good;
Plano West - took 3 OT and 51 points to keep these guys from going to Round 2.
That is 5 of 9 regular season games.
And today, CHHS was supposed to take us down. Ranked. skilled. talented.
We got it done with injuries EVERYWHERE, making NO excuses. Today we won convincingly with the backup QB and backup RB. We got it done IN SPITE of doubts. These are the Dragons, THIS is what I am talking about. Those guys put everything on the field today, and went through a gauntlet to get there.

Thanks, feeltheHaka, I am just so very proud of these boys! Controversy has swirled around them this year, the defense has been questioned, coaching, offense, we've been told that we are a team in decline, blahblahblah and what did they do but just gird up and give everything they've got. And that was more than enough to win. Heart. Discipline. Effort. They wanted it today, EXACTLY what it took. They came in as a TEAMme today, and delivered. I know Trinity knows what I am talking about.

Boys ended up 6th with CJ Brown placing 5th I believe...
DMN said that Tara Upshaw, our number 1 runner, fell about 150 yards into the race. She got up and had to catch the pack. Their speculation is we might have gotten second without the fall.
The bottom line it looks like The Woodlands was the class team this year for boys and girls and both won titles pretty convincingly yesterday.
Great season Dragon harriers!

Mutual admiration Haka. SLC respects class and plays with class. Playing Trinity is a great experience. Playing C_lleyville (they don't have an O) is fun for a different reason. Remember in elementary school there was always a big mouthed bully? You had to bloody his nose and he went away. C_lleyville (No O) has had their nose bloodied 10 straight times. Have to hand them some credit though, they are a good loser. Good luck to Trinity as their quest to go back to back becomes a reality.

Alright.. Weve had our fun, lets lay off the kitties and concentrate on the Horns.. Our boys have a tough one in front of them, and no doubt this win was a huge confidence builder for a defense that was reeling for awile. I'm glad it was the defense stepping up to the challenge, as they really deserved the accolades they got after that.. No way to measure what its goona do for their mindset this week in practice and at the game Saturday... I can only guess that it is HUGE.

There is just so much to like about Saturday's win. Apart from the fact that the Dragons beat CHHS, to make the all time series 10-0. To shut down the much vaunted Panther Offense by the Dragons Defense was great. To see the Dragon Offiense move the ball was also good. But to be playing again this up coming Saturday is the best of all.

I think we will see a 2-1 record for 6-5A this week. I think Coppell faces a bad matchup this week, while SLC and H advance.

Yes, Coppell will be lucky if they are able to keep this one competitive until the half.
No tears here if Wylie wins. The rematch would be nice, but if Wylie wins then we will have H's back when we see Wylie.:ninja:

Carroll is my child.
Wylie is my stepchild.
I want Wylie to do well, unless we are playing them.

Just getting onto this blog. I moved to this area in 2001. I have no kids, grandkids or relation in Southlake. Have missed only two varsity home games since moving into the area and I can count on one hand the number of Thursday night JV or Freshman home games I have missed. I had two sons in Florida, one was a very talented football player the other was average. The son that was an average football player rarely played until his senior year. He enjoyed being part of the team and worked hard to stay on the team. Somewhere in this string of conversation there is mention that seniority should count. Another mentioned that parents paid their way onto a team. Seniority may have a role in some places in life but not on a top performing high school sports team.
What I have noticed about Southlake and other top programs in the country is that teams excel primarily due to professional and disciplined coaching and parents that support their kids development and expect them to do their best. I think Southlake has all of that. Professional coaches at top high schools don't play kids because of money given or donations by parents. If that were the case Southlake with all its money would have parents lined up at the coaches door and it would not be a successful team but dysfunctional chaos. Coaches in Southlake have to be successful and win or they won't be coaching here. They have to put the kids that really want to play, are good teammates and are tops at their positions. The coaching in Southlake is better than I have seen anywhere else. Look at the difference, even at the 9th grade level and JV, Southlake coaches are rarely out coached.
As far as moving up JV and Freshman to the varsity for the playoffs. Those kids that were moved up probably are tough and were in positions needed for scrimmaging. I don't know exactly what their role on the varsity is but it probably is to get their heads knocked around as the 3rd and 4th players on a depth chart. Coaches don't want to bang up their 1st and 2nd team during a playoff run, so those 3rd and 4th teams go up against starters. It is likely a real mismatch and some kids at the freshman and sophomore level are not strong or tough enough.
Lastly, I have seen every freshman and sophomore class come through since 2001. There have been some good ones. The freshman class though this year really stands out in my opinion. They have a very talented QB and receivers that not only have good speed but also have great hands. The skilled positions on offense are as good as I have seen in my time here. The defense is not as strong as some I have seen in years past. They seem a little shaky against the run and on special teams.
Southlake football is great year in and year out. The coaches and the school has got it going on. I only wish my kids grew up in an environment with coaches like these.

I feal ya... But its also been a year since we played the Horns to, so lets concentrate on putting them in our rearview mirrior this week. Its shaping up to look like an annual meeting with them as well.
You can lay off Heritage if you want, but you don't speak for me. CHill doesn't talk crap. They deserve respect. In fact, they have a state tiltle. Cville doesn't have crap except for a lot of noise. They are going to eat sh_t as long as I want to stuff it down their throat.

I'm sorry that I don't earn your approval Mr 19 year old. Go flip your burgers. Does your Mommy know you stay up this late and play with your computer? Once again, you are almost on topic.

I agree with this, Coppell drew a team that does Coppell better than Coppell. Our game should be a good one but I believe we'll pull away. Hebron is probably in for the toughest battle. When in doubt about these things I look to the history of the program. Now, people on here will tell you that's silly in hs because the players change every year. That may be true but my systems been fairly good to me and no other level of football has program consistency like the hs level. All that said, I'll take Hebron. There is nothing in Wylie's history to suggest they'll advance. Couple than with a possible overconfidence they'll have, the revenge Hebron is after and the growth the Hawks have shown since starting 0-3 against a brutal schedule.......well you see where I'm going. I like Brazil and Dane is so bright. He needs to come home. 2-1 for 6-5A! We sure got each other ready, huh?
