For you Cowgirls fans out there, would you rather have CD or Romo as your starter.

I would put my money on CD. Romo has spent his last 1 to 2 years focused on his big contract and playing around in Holllywood. He has been a disappointment and a let down compared to what we all thought he was capable of. Some blame Tony's problems on the TO effect. I think it had more to do with being distracted having millions in his pocket and Jessica wrapped around his body.

Way to put us Dragon/Cowboy fans on the spot....Thats ok, cause I keep my high school/college/pro ball seperate so, Romo.

I thought it would be an interesting question. I am not a Cowboys fan, exactly the opposite and if Chandler makes the team that could change, I was never a Mizzou fan previously either, so always subject to change if there is a Dragon involved.
I still do not understand why Scott signed with Dallas with Witten and Bennett in front of him, unless they make him a possession WR. Tall guy with good hands. I thought there were teams that would be a better fit.

You never know how a young single new multi millionaire is going to react. Not to change the thread topic but if you are guaranteed tens of millions of dollars how motivated would you be? I cannot answer that as I am no longer young, single or wealthy. The players that everyone respects are the ones that just want to win regardless of how much they are being paid. I think most Americans and athletes are no different will get to a comfort level and never push to excel.

how many touchdowns has tony romo threw in the nfl? how many has chase daniel thrown?

how many wins has tony romo garnered as a starter? how many has chase daniel?

how many great plays has tony romo made in the nfl? how many has chase daniel?

answer those questions....and the answer is pretty damn obvious.

no it's not. throw every rookie to be qb in that quagmire of statistical inanity, and you get the same answer, per your analysis. even troy had no stats before he played a down.

an unproven rookie who wasn't even drafted and is probably signed to a league-minimum salary....you'd take that over romo? cowgirl fans crack me up. i think they forget the days of quincy carter and drew bledsoe easily. about the only thing romo hasn't done is get a playoff win (which is pretty big deal, i admit)...

i'm one of the biggest chase daniel fans out there and i hope he goes on to become a starter and prove everyone wrong. but for ANYONE who thinks the cowgirls would be better off at this point in time with CD as the starter is smoking some very strong crack.

Very cool. The new lights onthe visitor side of Dragon Stadium were turned on this evening for some burn-in time (and to allow the workers still preparing the subsurface for the new turf to continue doing work on the drainage line on the home side.) Chauncey is on the job!

Not this season that I am aware of. If a new board shows up, it will require private financial backing via the supplier and advertisers. The district wisely excluded the one million dollars from Proposition 3 of the recent bond which was designated for a scoreboard. That item was the largest single thing garnering a negative sentiment in all the polling on the bonds.

Realistically if the good Dr. does not know about it, more than likely the info you are receiving is incorrect unless you are married to or very very good friends with a board member etc.
I still do not understand the big deal over the score board. It wasn't like the bond proposal totaled 5 million and we were looking for another mill but 1 mill when you are talking about 130 mill is not really a big deal, I know it is the principal, blah blah blah. The scoreboard can generate revenue unlike the other things we approved that are necessary but I do not see the new technology center driving revenue.

i am not arguing cd over romo. i am shooting huge, deadly holes in your argument. like i said, using your illogic, any vet qb is better than any rookie.

btw, replace romo with cd after the 03(?) draft anfd you'd have an undrafted minimum salary free agent qb, with stats equal to cd, no?

hmm...don't recall comparing cd to every vet qb, just tony romo (hence, me saying TONY ROMO and not ANY VET QB)...because tony romo has accomplised much more than many other qb's that have been in the league twice as long. but nice try. ;)

as for your second part...not sure what point you're trying to make. romo was an undrafted free agent, just like cd appears to be, yes. and how many years did it take for romo to become a starter? yeah....

you shoot down a rookie because he has no stats. using your logic, all rookies are less than vets, seemingly.

Is Schick getting any looks? I know he has changed positions which has put him a little under the radar. Our linebackers and defense should be so solid, others like him should get some real looks by colleges scouts. From what I saw this spring he looks to have good size and I have heard he is working real hard this summer.

And yes, that was a very tough loss for many reasons, not just district. Credit to Coppell though, they never gave up, played a full 6 quarters or so. We never gave up either. Breaks.....

That is one of many big games this season...
I remember something else about that game also, they had a clip of Cam Mcdaniel giving the halftime speech. Reminded me of James Vander beek(Dawson's Creek) giving his in the movie Varsity Blues. Not saying anything bad about it, but thats where it took me. Im sure all of that will fuel the bulletin board type of motovation to make ammends, especially for Homecoming.

I definitely see less points going up compared to last year's OT thriller. SLC with their 8 starters returning and McBride bringing a focus geared more toward defense. Should be a good one.

We still plan on getting our 50 some points, I believe you see a better Dragon defense this time around and a go-for-the-jugular offense, as far as play calling goes.

yeah, but if it doesn't happen let's not fall off the edge and think it is the end of the world. Just remember that Katy lost 3, one very ugly, and ended up State Champs. In our striving for perfection, if we do not achieve it during the regular season, it doesn't mean we can't achieve the ultimate goal. We just reset.

I'll take a 13-3 state champ season over a 14-1 season anytime.

No photos, but the light posts are in place and the lights have been tested; new concrete has been poured around the base of each installation on the visitor side. The old drains lines have been removed and new ones installed; the old subsurface removed and replaced with new crushed stone base which has now been compressed and leveled. It would seem tht the next steps will begin the installation of the turf products.

Actually, there will be more of a crown on this version of the playing surface than there was previously according to a party who should know. Part of the issue with the drainage last time around was the almost complete lack of a slope to help the water off the playing surface. So a small crown will be incorporated into the new subsurface. Nothing like the one at Texas Stadium once was; in fact, it will likely be virtually unnoticable once the turf is put in place, but the drainage should be greatly improved.

Nothing yet on playoff football at JJ's Palace. If he is to only allow Title games at his Palace, then indeed he has broke his own rules by letting the Herbstriet Challange take place on Memorial Day. The UIL tried to get the Title games played at JJ's Palace this December, but the UT/UNC basketball game was already scheduled for that day. The UIL will apparently try to have the games played there in 2010.

All accounts so far point to signs that the JJ Palace wont be as high school friendly as Texas Stadium was...And that is very sad for sure.

everyone hated the set up at texas stadium, or at least complained like they did, what with the terrible smell, expensive food, poor access, expensive parking and stadium rental, etc. but it was a place where you might sit all day and get your money's worth.

if the rumors are true about jj-world,hs football in nt will have to go elsewhere. no one but family and extremely well-off serious fans will be attending games there. it's a shame, but that's life.

i foresee a switch to uta/mesquite isd/forrester(get busy fwisd and make the changes). maybe someone (dart?) will set up a bus line to bypass the parking ripoff.

They put a lot of pressure on our QB last year. I'm not sure if it was all Jeffcoat, but they were getting good pressure. We were able to take advantage of that with a throwback to the RB out of the backfield and with QB running plays. Our D was really solid in that game last year.

It was a certain DB who fumbled early (;) he made up for it in spades with his coverage against Ashley later). I didn't think they made anything off of it, our defense was great that day, can anyone confirm? Also, Jeffcoat had a very good day, saw him getting into the backfield multiple times, but as noted by 15Adragon, we had a scheme for him.

Kacy Rodgers made a great pass knock down at the goal line and PW only got a field goal out of that series. A touchdown might have set a different tone so kudos to the defense for stepping up right out of the gate :notworthy

Never to early.

West returns 9 starters from last season. 5 on offense and 4 on defense. They have 2 very good LB's in Shannon Adams and Nathan Brousard and 2 very good O lineman with Chase White and Travis Cross. They will also have to very fast and athletic WR's in Sean Ballard and Carson Smith and Carson is only a soph. He is also very good at playing QB as well. He is very tall and extremely athlecticaly gifted, so we will have to watch for some Wildcat type plays from him. Carrying the load at the RB position for the Wolves will be Jarrett Horan who was 2nd team all district last season.

Overall I dont see a better team than we faced last season. I'd expect our mature O line to handle the pressure that will be applied from Jeffcoat, better than we did last season. We had 2 sacks in last seasons game and I think we can at least double it this game. We also had almost 400 yards of offense last season and I can see us getting about that or more this time around. Keep in mind that last season we carried the ball 31 times...BUT 18 of those carries were by KP, several by cause, not by design. I dont think our QB (whoever it is) will be having to run that much this time around. Now lets just hope that Hal doesn't get QB run happy either.:D

Defensively I think the Dragons will have West covered, much like we did last season, except I think it will look much more seasoned this time around.

Damn...Just talking about this game is making me pigskin thirsty.

How are they doing the logo?

The logo will be sewn into/glued onto the field as one of the final steps. Currently, the fifty yard line is simply a sea of green with a white stripe running through it.

Each hash marker and numeral will also be sewn into the field individually, as will the lettering in the end zones after the field of play is laid out That is not how I had anticipated the work being undertaken, but that's the story.

Next update:

The boys from Hellas are back today working on rolling out the turf. We now have turf running from end zone to end zone, including the end zones themselves. They are also gluing the seams together, creating one big large green and black rug (with white stripes) about 120 yards long but only 156 feet wide thus far.

I also note that they have gotten rid of the pile of used turf that was dropped off at Dragon Stadium from other projects (The Colony, I think) that Hellas is working on. This has been replaced with another truck load of sand to be mixed with the ground rubber. These two materials constitute virtually 100% of the padding on these types of playing surfaces and also are a significant factor in securing the turf in place.

It is. But as long as we're talking about cleaning up the place, the goal posts really need painting or replacing. With the padding off around the base, it is amazing how much they have faded and discolored over the years. If they were going to be repainted in-place, it likely should have been done before the new turf went down. So they can either be removed and painted or replaced.

To fill in on some PW facts: Sean Ballard is the fastest Wolf on the field and will be the primary deep threat. I do not know what Carson Smith is being referenced when described as tall and gifted. Tall maybe. While he is playing at WR, he is not a WR. Seniors Blake Baldridge and Colby Wright and Soph Ryan Doyle will be the main targets. PW will be very young in the defensive backfield so the front seven will need to create pressure on QB. The offensive line is probably the strongest unit on the PW team at this point.

I assume it will be OK (as the SL Fans did last year) to move into the shade on the home side?

Athleticaly gifted because he can play multiple positions..He is basically a QB that will play alot of WR. We may have a similar situation with Piland this season. Those type of kids are very athleticaly gifted...DP certainly is and Carson is as well.

Did Colby Wright transfer to PW?....Because I dont remember him from last seasons team and since you're saying he is a senior, I'm just wondering...I guess that or he may have been injured or didn't play with varsity....could you elaborate on that?

Come get all the shade you want...I sat the entire game in the sun last season, but you certainly cant blame anyone who didn't.

Hellas is now in the process of cutting in and gluing the hash marks onto the playing surface. We also have sidelines for the football field as of today! Plus, there is a distinctly yellow line appearing marking the edge of the soccer field.

I think they should just play at ODS. Makes the football field look like crap with all those line and no one attends the games anyway
I mean seriously and no offense to soccer parents and players out there but does it make sense to open the stadium have security etc etc for 100 to 200 folks?
Have it be available for playoffs where is could possibly generate some revenue.

Colby Wright did not play football last year. He was primarily a basketball player. Good size (6'3") above average speed, good vertical jump. He will not win alot of style points but he does a nice job of going and getting passes thrown his way.

The permenant soccer markings are only along the outside of the football field, marking the back line and sidelines. The other markings, will be painted in on a temporary basis, just as on the former surface.

You are correct that few attend soccer games. I view that as understandable, but unfortunate at the same time. The boys and girls both put in a lot of effort and deserve more fan support than they get, especially considering their state titles. But, alas, soccer still resembles paint drying to me, even when I go to support the kids.

Playoff attendance has been pretty sparse as well. If one is looking to make money off high school soccer stadium rental, it will be quite a while yet.

Congrats to the Osbornes. I wonder what schools would have offered after the first few games? This kid is amazing. It appears as though there is a lot more pressure to commit early now than when I was being recruited back in the early 80's of course you can gather lots more information now. There was no internet or DVDS that you could copy etc. Getting a coach to send his only copy of an 8mm was torture and of course I was not nearly as good as these kids were and played in New York which is not a hot bed of high school football talent. I am assuming a lot of it has to do with the kids and wanting to get it over with at the same time. The constant pressure on the kids and the parents they probably want to get it done and then be able to focus on football.
With all the talent and early commitments to DI programs how can this team not be a "vision of the recent past".
Piland gets offered at Houston which is a good program and may not even be the starter. If he is not the starter will that effect his "non binding" offer and verbal commitment? I do not know how all that works.

The MOB performed a halftime show at the Rice-Tulsa game a few years back implying that Tulsa's coach will occupy a special ring of hell for abandoning Rice to move to Tulsa. The term "d****bag" was specifically used by the MOB in the show as applicable to the coach. Tulsa was quite offended and demanded an apology from the MOB. As I recall, they said something along the lines that they were indeed sorry, but would not apologize for the show.

DD may have more personal reasons for his view.

no, that's pretty close. i got a heads up about his d-bagness from a slc father of a tu player. he was spot on. if by abandoning, you mean have the pen ready to sign the agreed upon deal to extend your contract with a big raise while carrying on negotiations to return to tu. in fact, leaving the signing party when the cell phone rings to accept tu's offer. and then leaving after never saying thanks, so long, or kma to the team that played its heart out for you. d-bag is way too kind, imo.

I teach with a lady who has a famous son who has worked with the Tulsa coach. She sent me this email a couple of years ago after he left Rice for Tulsa. You'll be able to figure out who her son is after reading the song. That Graham doesn't come off as a honest person:

OK - Those Rice folks are too smart for their own good - but I saw this on the webletter and thought it was pretty funny. It's supposed to be set to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies:

Come and listen to a story about a man named Todd
He coached the Owls for just a year, now thinks he's a football god.
Signed a brand new contract, said he would stay a while,
but it turned out his good word was just a great big pile.

A load that is, BS, bovine scatology.

Well the next thing you know the toad's a millionaire
Grossly overpaid for a coach who's only fair.
Moved back to Oklahoma, back to a smaller school
Where there are more boosters that he has yet to fool.

University of Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane

Toad says he's home now, proud to wear blue and gold
And those poor Oklahomans believe everything they're told.
But all the fans in Tulsa are in for quite a fright
When they learn the coaching genius was Major Applewhite.

Opie that is. Alabama got him.

Don't come back now, y'hear?

Every Carroll fan I am aware of wishes Mitchell and his parent the best of luck. He certainly has earned the ride. But that doesn't necessarily mean we have to like the school or head coach. DD doesn't care for the coach and I understand why. I am not fond of him for a different reason. In both the instant cases, the dislike is not of the university, but of the head coach. Significant difference.

Thursday update:

The turf now completely covers the stadium's surface. The hash marks, both along the sidelines and in the central areas of the field have been cut and glued into place. Today's principal action appears to be the yard marker numerals being cut out and glued into place.

Hellas also provides CISD with a machine to spread and rake the ground rubber and sand into the turf. It attaches to a tractor and looks like a cross between Dragon Green and Kawasaki racing green. This freakin' thing has much nicer polished aluminum (I think) wheels than my truck ever dreamed about!

Congrats to Mitchell and the Osborne family. I have to agree with DD, Coach Graham sucks. Those players who played for him at Rice have nothing good to say about him. Nothing. For whatever reason Mitchell chose Tulsa, I can only wish him well. Nothing against the school. This rant is all directed at the coach. No Green day, not that coach. I figured you'd get all wet if I said anything about a coach.

Osborne, Rodgers, Foster, and Jackson have all committed. That's good. They can focus on the team. I imagine a few more will get some looks as well. Deservedly so.

Glad to see the field is coming together. Wish the district would somehow honor the Dragon Council who have passed with a Ring of Honor or similar at the field. They did so many great things for the district. We're going to miss them. Just not the same without them. Guess God needed them more than we did.

So Dragon friends, may I ask a year into the new district, are you guys happy wioth us or do you want to go back to the Colleyville and Grapeinve days?
We love having you all, I know 2 coaches in the district on a personal level and they love having you guys and I was wondering after looking at alll the sports this year if you all had as much fun as those in the LISD did? I hope we get you back in the next realighment. Only seems rightm don't ya think;):D

Personally, I love this district and the programs in it. Well, except for Coppell, of course.;) As a fan it is much more entertaining and exciting to know that every week you're playing a team with a legitimate shot at bumping you off. It's also great to have district mates with some real tradition and die hard fans. I love having four programs with titles on the gridiron, another that is a real up and comer and another that hates our guts. Love it! Now, if we could just relocate you all to up and down 1709 and hwy 26 .....:D

The LISD is great. The schools are great. The level of competition is great.

However, I miss the rivalries with Grapevine, Collleyville, Keller and Northwest. Since these cities border Southlake they are more natural rivalries than LISD schools IMHO.

My perfect district would be: SLC, Coppell, Grapevine, Colleyville Heritage, Northwest, Trinity, LD Bell, Keller and Keller Central.

Can't speak for all the sports, but baseball/football with the northern communities has been highly competitive. It makes no sense that Grapevine isn't in with us as a 7th school, and hard to imagine how a school across the street is in another district. I miss playing heated games against Keller.

Sending Colleyville home in both sports last season made everything seem pretty good. Looking forward to season 2

We only have 6 teams and it would make some sense to add Grapevine and Colleyville to our district and have Trinity, Keller schools Bell, Haltom NW and Richland in a district that would be 7 teams and we would have 8, although Carroll and Trinity in a district together would be awesome for football anyway.

You should have included:

a). Played at Carroll under Branum (during the Carter Administration )

A little CHS history-

Branum left Carroll to become head coach at 4 or 5A Katy and was replaced by Ledbetter. Coach Branum was a State Championship QB for Brownwood under the legendary Gordon Wood. We had Coach Wood speak at one of our athletic banquets.

We talked about this on the phone last night. I love the 65 from an athletic standpoint. We have great competition from top to bottom and we still get to have our battles with Sloppell. I liked playing the Vine too, but maybe we can start having a yearly nondistrict game with them. No sense in putting us back to the 55 becuase as you and I said, it would go from carroll owning that district to trnity owning it to Carroll and trinity owning it. Besides, Carroll/Trinity matchups should be reserved for the post season if we should meet or maybe nondistrict. I anticipate we remain in the 65 on the next realignment and will be happy if it stays that way.

Afraid that we don't have much say as to what district we end up in, especially with Keller and Northwest building schools like crazy I am fine with 6-5A and have a good time, for the most part. The only real "complaint" is Hwy 121 traffic and tolls which we managed to avoid in 5-5A.

I would not hold out too much hope for nondistrict football games with ghs. They have always been very reluctant to play Carroll unless we were in the same district with them. That may change under new coaching direction, but I sort of doubt it.

It appears that we now have a large logo in the middle of the new turf!! Very cool.

The letters are being cut and glued into the end zones currently. So this thing may well be ready for the first intrasquad scrimmage at this pace.

When it is finished, REB Photo says he will have a gigapan photo available on line and in his store. These things are amazing.
