View Full Version : Poor fan attendance from big public school district teams!

Schools that are in their own school district or maybe a two school district almost always get huge fan support for their football teams (even in the Suburbs). It is not this way when it comes to the large city school districts, with a few exceptions. I am sick of going to SA Madison games and their stands are mostly to completely full while their sister schools in the NEISD don't show up with the exception of the players/band/dance team parents. When one side has 500 people and the other has 4000 or more than something is dramatically wrong. SA Churchill use to have a pretty good crowd, but even they have fallen off in recent years. SA Clark had maybe 1,000 people on their side to support them last Friday night while Madison had more than 5,000. So this holds true for Northside ISD schools as well. The exception might be SA O'Connor who like Madison has developed a pretty loyal fan base from their area. SAISD 5A teams get even less support than those in the NEISD and NISD. I am wondering if this lack of fan support is as common in the other Metro cities of Texas with multiple high school districts. I'm sure Converse Judson and Smithson Valley fan would like to see a good rival crowd at their home stadium other than SA Madison for a change.

I started a thread a while back about fan support. Maybe this can help answer your question.

that's a cool thing, he's one hell of a football player, saw him play for SA Madison his sophmore and junior year.

In cove there is one nothing to do and the only things that are good is the band and the football team. so everyone in cove goes to the football game if it is either at home or at our furthest game in Judson. Trust me I am one of those die hard fans in the stands every fri. or sat. i live for this stuff.

Good for you! There is a lot worse stuff you could be doing...

Most of it is on winning, and losing. And If you win play off games every year.

Perhaps at 5A, but there are plenty of programs that have on and off years at the lower levels and they never lose their live support. Even in the mediocre years that Madison had ('93-'97, '99, '00 w/only two playoff teams, '98 was a strong team) they still had a real strong presence by fans at their games. I don't see much difference with those teams live support vs. the five consecutive playoff teams ('01-'05).

Call him and ask him yourself. Just check out his website for his digits. It's kind of funny that he has to go to this extreme, but he is a nice kid that should definetly be playing D1 football over the next few years.

Katy fans have to get there early to get a good seat. Last week at Tully, our side was filling up quick about 45 minutes before gametime whike there were less than 50 people on the other side 10 minutes before the start.

When we played Pflugerville at their stadium, I was surprised that some visible and sizable sections of their season ticket area were empty, while on our side of the field folks were sittin on the fence railing because they couldn't find seats.

Of course, we have fans who don't even live in our community or whose children have graduated from school several years ago. Our retired athletic director walked up behind where I was sitting, and the guy next to me, apparently an old player, looked over and jokingly asked him if he brought his helmet.
