I seem to recall Firebird mentioning this before Willingham was even outsted. Don't say I didn't warn you, Red Raiders.

He's tired of getting screwed over by the UT refs, wants to get screwed over by the USC refs.

One has to think, how much longer he wants to coach at tech.
He is always going to get the left overs....go to a place like Washington with a better history then Tech, and a weaker conference...and you might find yourself in a national title...but even thats a stretch.

There's no question that Leach has done all the he can at Tech. Washington has a MUCH higher ceiling and frankly, an easier conference.

not even close. im pretty sure it would be easier to attract recruits to that scene then lubbock, imo.
but since smart money is going to udub, i say leech stays at tceh.

One of the best ever! 40 stack by Lambright with Tuff and G-fronts started trend of small, fast defenses that stuffed the run and harrassed and roughed up QBs. TCU and Va Tech run their schemes today out of 4-2-5s. Don James played great defense and always had a strong running game. Put mucho QBs, TEs, FS and OL in the NFL. Would like to see the DAWGS come up again!

Leach isn't heading to UDub, but that would be my favorite BCS destination for him if he didn't stay at Tech.
1. Mike likes Lubbock. What he hates most is people apologizing for Lubbock. Him and his family like it contrary to what these media pukes think about it.
2. Leach has a law degree. If he had stayed with law, his interest was in helping the little guy fight nasty huge corporations that do unsafe things and hurt the common man. That's straight out of the book of a guy who doesn't go to the "Name" team.
3. Leach grew up close to Yellowstone in Cody, Wyoming which has rodeos and is a small town. That's not the makings of a guy who has to be in the big city.
4. Leach likes to travel. Nobody ever said he likes to live in the bigger town. I put miles and miles upon my van, but I still prefer to live away from the major cities.
5. Leach doesn't want to have any part with the suit and tie, schmooze the alumni set. He'd rather stay up late watching film and meet the fans at the gas station, talk to people on trips, and take food to the guys camping out. He likes the students more than the alumni.
6. Leach's daughter goes to Tech. She'll be there a few years and I've never heard anything about Leach saying he wanted to be closer to his relatives in the West.
7. Leach is going to win a national title before he leaves Tech. I 100% believe he enjoys the challenge of winning at Tech more than taking the easy way out and going to a "Name" team. As crazy as Leach seems to most people, the man does have character.
8. I think I have a pretty good handle on how Leach thinks about some things because I'm also different in my perspective on events and goings-on.

people are puzzled that a coach as dynamic yet enigmatic is at boring ole Tech, yet to Lonny's point, that is why they are great for one another. Leach is a coach that is both lauded for his offensive genius and lampooned for his historical lack of focus on the defensive side of the ball. i think he is both underrated as an overall coach and leader while also being misunderstood by a lot of folks.
the morons that keep saying " he went to pepperdine, he wants to be on the left coast." couldn't be further from the truth. The guy likes it in Lubbock because it is similar in a lot of ways to where he grew up- WYOMING!!!.
I guess if you f'ers keep predicting he's going to leave for every school from UCLA to Miami and now washington, you're bound to be right some time- just like the people that keep predicting a loss for the Red Raiders this season...;)

Everything lonny said would be valid had Leach not pushed so hard for the UCLA job less than a year ago and the Miami job before that. It is VERY obvious that Leach wants out and you really can't blame him.

When I think of a conservative, old fashioned person, Strangie Leach just does not come to mind. He's a bit weird, and that's not what the closed minded conservatives usually go for. Seems that he would be a better fit with the libs.

He's doing pretty good for being in a BCS conference and doing the 5th best job recruiting his own state.

It's as big of a culture change as you can get from Lubbock to Seattle! Leach, or any coach for that manner, can win over fans when he wins. His offense would play very well in the PAC-10, but I don't think he'd want the hassle of completely rebuilding the Dawg program right now.

Ummm... no. Tech plans to take up to around 60,000 at best. And UW has plans to renovate Husky Stadium.

No, Tech has a goal of 80,000. They're adding box seats and suites after the year and then will raise money to get up to 60K, but the long-term goal is 80K.

i was thinking about this last week-
greater metro(he-he) Lubbock area-300,000 people, and that is very generous
stadium holds 55k
Austin greater metro area- 6 or 700k, and that's not including San Antonio or Waco-Temple-Killeen.
stadium holds 100k
I look at a great stadium like Autzen in Oregon and ask myself, why does Tech need a MONSTER stadium. I think we should just make what we have as good as it could be. The east side expansion is going to make that stadium look a lot better.
Following the Texas game, i was contemplating the addition of a moat, so Mack wouldn't cry on his radio show after the game...
