I'm sure South Garland has a fine team - and this will be a great test for both squads - but the SG coach is not too bright at picking a neutral site. Coach Outlaw selected Tyler - which makes perfect sense - almost halfway between exactly. The SG coach says no you play there too much. LOL - Lufkin hasn't played there since '03. I'm not sure what SG's neutral site was -but their preference was Texas Stadium. Outlaw is 1-0 there - but he just doesn't like traveling 3.5 hours - who would blame him even though there would still be more LP fans there than SG.

So, they go home/home on a flip and Lufkin wins. Now SG has to travel a tough 3+ hour trip to Nacogdoches - a place no one has ever even seen before let alone play in - and they just swelled Lufkin's attendance from 7-8,000 to about 12,000, maybe more. SG will be surrounded on all sides by purple - I'm sure you'll see Lufkin fans on the SG side - not good for SG.

This may make no difference in the game - but I wonder what South Garland's coach was thinking.

It may be that with their small fan base, he just thought he would take a shot at Texas Stadium & lost the flip...I don't think it matters to the kids, they don't get much of a turnout anyway..sadly

Yeah - you never know - obviously the kids are on a huge roll here. But I gotta tell you - when they step out for warmups and see 10,000 folks dressed in purple - that either motivates you or scares you - not sure which way they take it.

The SG coach is like all the rest of the coaches in the Metro-plex or Houston areas. They don't want to travel more than 15 or 20 minutes from their school to play football. The people in East Texas laugh about that and even us in East Texas can't compare to the travel that goes on in West Texas.

Those metro schools and fans don't know how to travel or do they have it in their budget to do so. The only fair neutral sites that could have been available would have been Tyler, Ennis or going back for a third week to Waco to play at Flyod Casey or Waco ISD, and I didn't want that again.

The guy just took a 50-50 chance he could go to Texas Stadium, what he didn't know was, it doesn't matter to Lufkin because we all know how to travel, it doesn't bother us.

All of these coaches try to play mind games and stratagy when picking playoff sites. This one happen to back fire on South Garland.

They wouldn't care if you brought 100,000 people wearing purple. Just don't go on the field wearing black and gold.

Actually, I think Longview had about 9000 in Mesquite when thay played South Garland. That didn't seem to bother them because they won that game. I think the combination of the 3 -4 hour drive to Nacogdoches and 12,000 Lufkin fans will make a big difference on Saturday.

I am not sure why some try and make the metroplex seem like they are in wrong about the traveling. Its not like they have to up here. All the schools are within 40-50 miles. If I remember right, Southlake Carroll has traveled and it has not effeceted them at all. Just makes know since bringing up how good you are because you have to drive farther to play. I am a huge Lufkin fan, but since I moved up here, I really see how some take that subject to far. Just show up and play football, The field will look just the same.

Pack...either you are some of your own beat me up when I stated a fact, SG is looking for some home cooking to keep them on their roll...I am glad you guys won the toss, I will let the Longview loss go, but it is worth pointing out why SG took their chances to have you guys travel to Dallas...

Where has Carroll traveled to play...

In the past couple of years: Abilene, Waco, San Antonio to name a few. I think they played in Lubbock, too.
They haven't had to do much more than that. There are plenty of good teams in their own backyard for them to play...

Carroll has been all over the place because they play another half a season almost every year in the playoffs..Vernon, Midland, Wichita Falls, Waco, Lubbock, Abilene, San Antonio..it's just that our opponents lately have liked the idea of playing at Texas Stadium, so thats where the majority of our recent playoff games have been..we will pack up Southlake and hit the road on ya though!

Don't hijack anymore threads with your "home cooking" conspiracy, let it go. The only "home cooking" that I am worried about is that big feast my mom is preparing for Thanksgiving Dinner. What a wonderful start to the Holiday Season: Homecoming @ Moms with a big turkey dinner, the big Texas vs Texas A&M rivalry game, and seeing the good ole Lufkin Panthers in action.
Gotta Love It, Man!!!!!! :D

goodness gracious, myround!!! i'm sorry, i've got to say something, brother...i've stood by too long and listened to the Lobo fans cry and act like babies!! listen, here it is in a nutshell---SG beat us.......we packed our bags......we loaded up on the buses....and we took our sorry a**es back to Longview with a loss!!! it's over, brother---please, let it go...i'll defend Longview when it's necessary, but good God, to come on every thread and hi-jack it for a bunch of whining is getting flat ridiculous!! and these posters on here don't give a flying crap about Longview, anyway...they are concerned with the teams still IN the playoffs...when you lose, nooone cares about that team, they just care if their team can go all the way...we're not this season--let it go, it's over.....come to some basketball games with me...it seems to help a little--LOL.......again, i'm not trying to jump on you or anything, i just want Longview people to move on and let these other football teams and fans enjoy the rest of their seasons---not a bunch of Longview non-sense.........

You are just plain STUPID!! Did SG get home cooking at Texas Stadium Saturday night??
And, the crew will not be a local crew just as the case in the LONGVIEW game.. Funny how home cooking comes from a San Antonio officials crew?? Go find a shoulder to cry on. JEEZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

yea, it's sad why most Longview fans come up with excuses of why we lost to SG----same crap happened 2 years ago......it's simple---we lost to a team who wanted it more than we did---that's football, that's why the games are played...........

I dont think the lack of crowd support will affect S.Garland as much as people think....U cant miss what u never had. Its not like they are gonna come out with the match up stick meter showing red above thier heads like NCAA football for playstation. The bigger issue is not how much lufkin crowd will intimidate S.Garland, but how much the Panthers will feed off the electric atmosphere. This team lives for games like that and really like to put on a show for the crowd. I feel the biggest concern for S. Garland is not so much the crowd as it is the long ride down here. Some teams can get off a bus after a long ride and still come out ready to play, but I have also seen teams come out sluggish and not focus, if thats the case for S.G. it could be a long day.

You nailed it Timeout. This is a tough 3.5 hour bus ride from Garland-these kids have probably never even heard of Nacogdoches - there is no easy way there - believe me. They may be fine - but I guarantee to you leaving at 7 in the morning will be no fun for these kids since they haven't done it all year. I see this as the bigger issue over the crowd, although neither will be easy for them.

south has never had more than a 1000 fans show up for and game but the garland game... our team is solid enough that it doesnt make a diffrence... whne we played longview they had about 6000 fans and we had about 750 and we still went out and played a ball game... the # of fans doesnt determine the outcome of a game the drive and heart of the players does

If a neutral site cant be a greed to, a coin flip between the two coaches determines the choice. Then the next time those two teams play, the team that lost that flip, gets the choice. S, Garland wanted Texas stadium, Lufkin wanted SFA. Lufkin won the flip. The next time they play in the playoffs the game will be Souths choice.

And you've answered the question... No, SG doesn't need fan support. They don't get it and frankly doubt they dwell on it as much as you guys seem to. They've beat the Lobo's in two consectutive times in the playoffs WITHOUT fan support... Funny thing is, the fans can't play. Players have to play. Lobos need to start going in to games understanding their fans can't win it for them??? We've found that out!

reading this forum this week, I've concluded:

1.) Only Lufkin has played football prior to 2005
2.) Only Lufkin fans have watched football prior to 2005
3.) Lufkin fans have a short memory of what can happen in the playoffs. Especially when playing against athletic underdogs(SG has some of the best talent in the state, make no mistake)
4.) Garland has no chance because Cove is undefeated
5.) Most fan support determines who will win in the playoffs
6.) Garland has no chance because they only defeated a state ranked opponent last week.
7.) Cove will win because Garland didn't look good on tape
8.) Metroplex teams that travel can't win vs East Texas teams because they don't budget for it. Darn history.

did I leave anything out?

I remember in 1998 when Lake Highlands went to SFA to play Lufkin. They had a good following, but the Lufkin side was filled to the brim. It did not seem to phase them. The game was close, but when it mattered the game was played on the field. Not that good fan support is not important by any means, but when you are not used to having a big following, you get used to other teams having one and it doesn't bother you as much.
At any rate, let the fans do their thing, and let the players do theirs. It's a great event nonetheless. SG fans will sit on their hands, Lufkin fans will be loud with coordinated chants and yells-just hope the results are not the same as in 1998- GO PACK!!!
