I love this time of the year because we're a few weeks away from Houston playing San Antonio. Houston always says they have the better team and will mop the floor with us. Some SA people give in and agree, but there are stubborn people like me who aren't going to give an inch until you beat us! :D

As Nick Bakay would say. Let's look at the "Tale of the Tape" and who has won each time in 5A. It's really Region 3 against Region 4.

80 PA Jefferson
81 H Yates
82 B West Brook
83 C Judson
84 B French
85 H Yates
86 La Marque
87 H Stratford
88 C Judson
89 Aldine

Region 3 was 8-2 in the 80's. How did the 90's turn out? :p

90 C Judson and Aldine
91 FB Dulles and SA Marshall
92 C Judson and H Yates
93 C Judson and A MacArthur
94 Katy and A Westlake
95 C Judson and SA Roosevelt
96 C Judson and A Westlake
97 Katy and A Hastings
98 C Judson and SA MacArthur (Katy was DQ'd)
99 A Eisenhower and Katy

Region 4 was 11-9 in the 90's.

00 A Westlake and Katy
01 SA Taft and A Westlake
02 C Judson and S Valley
03 GP North Shore and Katy
04 S Westfield and S Valley

Region 4 is 6-4 this decade.

I think the Region that's 17-13 in these games in the last 15 years deserves a fairer evaluation in the public forum! :D

Everybody assumes that Judson and SV will be in the games this year and here is their record in semifinal games:

S Valley 2-0
C Judson 9-5

BTW Region 1 is 27-13 against Region 2, 19-11 in the last 15 years, and 5-5 this decade.

All I know is that Westfield is real good and your boys better stap em up tight, because they have not played a team as good as Westfield since last year. (when they lost to WESTFIELD)
In 2003 we were all scared a little bit before the semi with Westlake. They have a strong history in the playoffs. It ended almost before it started Northshore52, Westlake0.
It could be that kind of day for Judson if you make ANY mistakes.
I read a poster implying Houston teams don't play smart football. That is stereotyping. Better take it team by team cause every team is different.
I don't think you could call Yates85 a dumb team. Or Aldine89 or Northshore 03. Well that is that type of team Westfield has. Look out!

Houston wins this argument this year I am afraid. IMHO, Katy and Westfield will take the 2 titles. I really don't see anyone knocking either of them off. ;)

Well, if nothing else, this tells me that R4 gives R3 more competition than R2 gives R1. Even if you add the 80's, it's only 21-19 in favor of R3 over the last 25 yrs. I would say the R4 has held their own. Go Rockets!

i would have to agree. when the top team from each region meets you would expect it to be pretty much a split over a several year span. i think the popoulation growth in region 4 finally started providing the talent base starting in the 80's. so things should be pretty even from here on out between the top teams in the 2 regions.

having said that, i also believe that if you were to rank ALL the teams in both regions and had them play each other, region 3 would come out on top. JUST AN OPINION.

You have to remember Katy's overrated because of their schedule. ;)

This is 2005. the past is history. We"ll see in a couple weeks who is the better region. My prediction is a Region 3 sweep. Westfield and Katy

As usual, you have mastered the "tongue planted firmly in cheek" reply! ;) I do think that Katy has an easier path to the finals than the Region 1/2 rep. :)
