I titled this potpourri because I'm going to say several things and wanted to throw all of them in 1 thread.
There are 24 teams are left and I congratulate all of them. I'm not going to fire anymore teams this year, but I will still make picks. I think it's a huge accomplishment to be playing after Thanksgiving and I always look at playing in December as being a huge success. The following teams need to take a bow:
EP Franklin
E Trinity
A&M Con
R Berkner
Cy Fair
S Westfield
C Judson
Harlingen
Abilene
SLC
Midland
Plano
C Cove
Garland
Lufkin
S Garland
Katy
B West Brook
Cy Falls
LaPorte
SA Madison
PSJA
SV
L United
My dirty dozen is:
E Trinity
R Berkner
S Westfield
C Judson
SLC
Midland
C Cove
Lufkin
Katy
LaPorte
SA Madison
SV
I can't tell you how happy I am to probably have 3 teams from 26-5A in the dirty dozen. You'll also have 3 of Judson's 4 losses in the dirty dozen and the other team missed the playoffs, but beat a dirty dozen team (Churchill over SV).
The KT's have 12 of their pre-season Top 25 still playing and they did good, too!
1 SLC
2 S Westfield
3 SV
4 Lufkin
6 Katy
7 E Trinity
8 C Cove
9 C Judson
10 Garland
13 S Garland
16 Abilene
24 A&M Con
They were a S Garland upset away from having the Top 9 in the dirty dozen and that's outstanding!
I like talking about district strenghts, too. Some people dismiss it, but I say the better districts usually pull through in the playoffs. Of the final 24:
10 come from the 1-8 districts in the power ratings.
8 come from 9-16.
3 come from 17-24.
3 come from 25-32.
It takes 3 weeks to weed out all the weaker teams/districts and I expect the dirty dozen to be:
8 from the 1-8 districts in the power ratings (Midland, Judson, SV, Madison, Trinity, Westfield, SLC, and Lufkin).
3 from 9-16 (LaPorte, Katy, and Cove).
1 from 17-24 (Berkner).
0 from 25-32.
That's not a this year number, but an every year number.
How about the district of the year? These are my speculations:
26-5A has 3 teams left and will be 9-0 after this week with 3 teams left.
22-5A has 2 teams left and will be 6-2 after this week with 1 team left.
3-5A has 2 teams left and will be 5-2 after this week with 1 team left.
13-5A has 2 teams left and will be 5-2 after this week with 1 team left.
11-5A has 2 teams left and will be 5-3 after this week with 0 teams left.
17-5A has 2 teams left and will be 5-3 after this week with 0 teams left.
I want 26-5A to go 14-1, but those last 2 wins in each division are going to be TOUGH! No matter what, I get at least 5 weeks of rooting for 26-5A and that's always great! :D
This is the best time of the year and I hope all the fans are enjoying it. We're really getting to see which teams are NOVEMBER teams and which one's are OCTOBER teams.
