My Houston Area Top 10 (including a certain rep from the Triangle)
1. The Woodlands
2. North Shore
3. Pearland
4. Hightower
5. Katy
6. Cinco Ranch
7. Aldine Eisenhower
8. Beaumont West Brook
9. Deer Park
10. Clear Lake
This is the best Woodlands team since 2003 in my opinion. North Shore is typically outstanding on defense, but the offense must step up if the Mustangs want to emerge as possible state contenders. Pearland is quietly having a very good season. They have their showdown with Deer Park this week. Hightower is talented and experienced across the board. This could be the best team they've ever had. Katy is much improved over where they were to start this season. If the Tigers clean up unforced errors, they could be in the state semis again. Cinco Ranch could be a real darkhorse in the D1 field this year.
Eisenhower stumbled out of the blocks against North Shore and Hightower, but appear to be clicking in district play. West Brook has a very talented team, but they've been nailed by the injury bug. If they can get healthy, they will be a D2 region challenger. Deer Park is still undefeated, and put that to the test against Pearland this week. Clear Lake lost a shocker to Clear Brook (14-13), but the only other blemish is a loss to The Woodlands immediately after the Hurricane break. This is Clear Lake's strongest team since 2004.

As always, your assessment looks spot on to me. Have you seen The Woodlands in person? I've seen some video and they've got the look of a championship team to me. Not many holes in their game.
...umm no team from one of the area's deepest Districts 13-5A?
Knowing KT....that's a mistake....he either 1. Went for a Region 3 list and forgot TWHS was Region2. 2. Overlooked 13-5A or listed the teams he's seen.
I would add Westfield to the list.

You're asking KT...if he's seen the woodlands in person? I would say he's FELT the Woodlands in person...lol
TWHS reminds me alot of 2007 Katy.....well balanced and a great Defense

Yes, I saw The Woodlands against Katy. They have the talent to win a state championship in my opinion. The concern I have is how they'll react when they get in a four quarter playoff game. These Highlander seniors are experienced, but they've only played two bi-district games the last two seasons. The lack of playoff experience didn't phase Cedar Hill in 2006, so we will see if The Woods follows that model or if they get cold feet.

They'd be in a top 15, but I can't get on board with any of the Cypress-Klein-Spring schools when it comes to a top 10 this season.

Good analysis, I wholeheartedly agree on the talent. The mental aspect is the biggest question - the only knock one can find on them is that they're not necessarily "battle tested". If I'm not mistaken your projections had them matching up with Westfield in bi-district? Although the Mustangs have underachieved, that's still a dangerous game if it happens.

is so -- they would need to go behind Klein Oak at this time.

Lack of bi-district games make them an unknown.....when you give up 26ppg and have the 2nd or 3rd BEST defense in the district.....that's a red flag.

I agree thet TWHS has all the makings as well, but WF would be a good test because the Pony's will play 4 quarters all out and will some speed.

Not a knock on Creek......no one in the district plays defense. I would have loved to have seen Creek in Region 3...think they would have a better shot at going a few rounds deep....just my opinon though.

I have Conroe-Klein Forest and Woodlands-Westfield in D1. Forest has the head-to-head tie break over Westfield when it comes to seeding. That'd make Westfield the 2 seed facing 1 seed Woodlands. They are both tied in district right now.
Forest and Westfield are the two largest enrollments in the district, so they will be the D1 reps.
I agree! Cy Creek has surprised a lot of people in and out of their district. Klein Oak has not played as well lately as they played against Cy Creek.
in and out of their district? I would say both teams are on the same level right now....giving Creek the edge based on the win over Ridge....waiting to see how Oak does against Westfield.

When Strake lost to Clear Lake it was early in the season and was playing with a brand new quarterback. Over the last several games James Scott has improved and is one of the better quarterbacks in the area. Strake today is a much different team than the one that lost to Clear Lake.

More of a Wishbone-Veer-Option ... kind of a hybrid. It's predicated on the QB who is more of a Point Guard. They probe the perimeters until the LBs start cheating and then they pound it right up the middle.
I've been watching it for 8 years now and can tell you it can be boring. It does make for a short game.

You are 100% correct. The only difference is this years defense is the best I've seen (Woodlands game excluded).
The flip side is when you're ahead, you eat up time.

well Im not going to lie... I think we might have beaten Westfield judging by their offensive troubles and our defense... But ur right... Im just making the point that we have been not playing our starters for the 3rd quarter in every game (with the exception of the Strake Jesuit game)... And our starters Allow less than 7 points a game... But ur right we havent really been tested yet and thats y I cant blame anyone for not ranking us... But I still feel that we are flying under the radar
Course Katy beat Flower Mound - a decent team, Cy-Bay (a team whos a contender in Flordia ;) ) and Oak Ridge, so its hard to say that Katy has beaten a SERIOUS contender as well... Now Im not trying to take anything away from Katy because they are rightfully ranked in the top 10 in Houston, but its not like yall have beaten a SERIOUS TEXAS contender either... Im just making a point... Hurricane Ike made it difficult to figure out who the contenders and pretenders are... We had 1 non district game - our other two were supposed to be Pearland and Westfield (we beat Westfield last year for what its worth - and our offense is essentially the same just another year of experience - meaning much more effecient) I personally think we are a contender, the way we have won and our defense have been impressive to say the least... But I am biased, so Im sure many people will jump on and say Im wrong... But speculated wins dont count towards anything... I speculated wed go 3 rounds deep... But with our offense firing on all cylinders I think we COULD (please dont mistake that for we will) beat Pearland (and ofcourse thats assuming we get passed Lamar which in itself will be one heck of a game)... Sure its less than 50-50, but I think if it were to happen this is the year...
Anyways good luck Katy...
