View Full Version : The State of 6-5A after week 8

With two district games remaining, three teams still have a shot at the District Championship.
It's pretty simple for Hebron and Carroll. Win out and your the champs. Marcus must win out and have Hebron beat Carroll this week. That would give both Marcus and Hebron identical 4-1 district records with Marcus winning the head-to-head.
That leaves the final weekend's game between FM and Coppell to decide the remaining playoff spot. Coppell should win this week to enter that game with a 2-2 district record. Even if FM loses this week, they would have a 1-3 record and then have to beat Coppell to win the head-to-head. If Marcus were to lose out and finish 2-3, Coppell would have to win out to get in with a 3-2 record. A Coppell loss to FM leaves Coppell at 2-3, and they lose the head-to-head against Marcus.
So no matter how you slice and dice it, the FM/Coppell game will have huge implications for the fourth playoff spot.
But all bets are off if Lewisville wins one or both of their remaining games. I don't have enough bandwidth to analysis that scenerio.

I think Lewisville might have the defense to stay with Coppell, but can they score any points? Coppell defense has struggled on defense. I was surprised how close the Hebron/Lewisville game ended. I think Lewisville could be fired up for Coppell.

I'm not going to come on here all cocky, but I will say that we'll come out as hard as we did against Hebron this friday. It's our senior night and final home game, and even though we're officially out of the playoffs, we still want to get a win in district. We're going to give the Cowboys our best shot and we'll see how it goes.

Lewisville has a tough defense, but couldn't score on air. The only way they beat Coppell is to create turnovers and capitalize. Their offense is not good enough to score on most JV teams

I for one am rooting for that win to be this week!:) Be sure to tell Coach Campo hello for us, I'm sure he'll be in the stands or on the sidelines. I wonder if he 'doesn't like' Lewisville?
I respect the Farmers quite a bit for that game last week. It would be easy to give up at this point. It shows a lot of character to keep playing at that intensity when you are playing for pride rather than a playoff spot.

There chance was last week. Most had written them off and Hebron was looking ahead to Carroll. I predicted Lweisville would win but I was just off. Unfortunately, they have now drawn attention to themselves. Anyone who may have looked them over before will not now. Sorry but I think the Farmers will go 0-2 to close the season.

I know he is supporting his kid, and I think his talk was an excellent motivational speech. However, I resent the "don't like Southlake" from him. Guess what? Carroll lost the green game 49-6. The QB was brought up from JV Black and he fumbled twice and through 5 INT's. Hebron looked go though. Don't want to take anything away from them. Our JV Green is basically the Varsity reserve as is the case with most Texs HS's. Never know who will play from one week to the next.
Our JV Black beat the Hawks 33-0 with a reserve QB. Don't know how the Freshman teams did yet.
Theses games have very little bearing on the Varsity games this year or in the future. Most folks beat Carroll so infrequently that any victory against us is a major reason to celebrate. Even in rec league baseball and peewee football.:)

Pureed Dragon......
The refs were unkind to us. They gave us twice the penalty yards and stripped away a fumble that would have been returned for a defensive TD. One our defense would very much like to have.
But our over 600 yards of offense made up for these deficiencies.

Flower Mound 1-3

Games:

Should Coppell win and Carroll win both would be at 3-2 and Coppell would own the tiebreaker. But also both would be in the playoffs.
If Lewisville wins, it gets more interesting.
If Coppell then wins, Carroll would own the tiebreaker over Flower Mound. If Flower Mound wins, you would have three teams with three losses each and second level tiebreakers would have to be used.

I think it is the points. Surely not a coin flip.
When Coppell kicked the extra point in OT against Carroll I heard it was because point differential is a tie breaker, and the coaches had agreed in advance to go for the PAT in that situation.
IMO a coin toss is not the way to go. These things should not be decided by a heads or tails guess.

Coppell is home
What are the second level tie-breakers?
I think they go to the number of players that have scored. So it helps to have had many players score during a district game.

I understand the second level tie breaker is point spread.
Looks like the worst Marcus could do is the #1 seed in Div 1 Since Hebron will be in D2 and Carroll would be in D2 and Marcus owns the tie breaker with Coppell if they win?
The worst Hebron could do is the #1 seed in D2 even if they lose to Marcus since they have beaten everybody else.
So Flo Mo and Coppell are playing for the right to play Trinity.
Did I get that right?

I believe so. Although, I'm not totally clear on the tiebreaker if SLC loses to Lewisville and FM wins.

MF....... I believe you are correct, in a threeway tie, the 2nd level is point differential capped at either 14 or 21 (14 is more common). So here's what it would like:
Hebron is in - clinched D2 1st seed
Marcus is in - clinched D1 1st seed
SLC is in - clinched D2 2nd seed
Coppell controls its own destiny with a win.
Flower Mound needs SLC to win over Lewisville - and then they control their own destiny with a win over Coppell.
In a SLC, Coppell, FM three way tie (using 14 as cap) .....
SLC is +10 (or whatever the max is)
Coppell is +4
FM is -14 (or whatever the min is)
FM would need to beat Coppell by 10 or more to get into the PO's as D1 2nd seed.
If FM wins by 9, it would go to third level (whatever that is)........otherwise Coppell qualifiies.

This would be lots easier if UIL had a uniform tie-breaker policy instead of every district doing their own thing.

I may have to print this off and take it and a calculator to the game next week.

Pureed Dragon......
The refs were unkind to us. They gave us twice the penalty yards and stripped away a fumble that would have been returned for a defensive TD. One our defense would very much like to have.
But our over 600 yards of offense made up for these deficiencies.
Your MLB, Foster was very good. He just couldn't hold on or catch our two backs tonight.
I should have logged off the computer earlier yesterday. Too many glasses of green kool-aid started impairing my football judgement.
Seriously, I knew you would see this post and point out my errors. Punishment accepted.

I copied the following off another site..is this right? If Coppell wins and Marcus loses, Marcus would have to play Trinity.
All 3 would tie for 2nd in district and have swapped wins and losses thus according to district rules they go to the point system to determine seedings. This is significant in that Coppell then isn't locked into Trinity with a win. The district rules state, "Once the point system goes into effect, all places will be determined by the point system."
SLC is +3
Coppell is -1
Marcus is -2
Thus Coppell would be ahead of Marcus all because Coppell beat SLC and Marcus failed to punch 1 more score in at the end verse Coppell.
Gives Marcus big reason to play hard vs. Hebron and pull off the upset. Heck it probably gives Coppell a reason to have hope avoiding Euless in 1st round.

I think that's how it works. That happened to Flower Mound, Marcus, and us last year.

Is it total point spread of all district games or just the head to head with the teams you are tied with? Does anyone actually know vs all of us guessing?
Best way to fix it is just win!

I hope your right. I am sure Marcus would like a do over on the last drive against Coppell. I think the only team in 6-5A that can matchup with Trinity is Hebron this year and they will be in D2.

This is old new now, as we all sit in our offices on Monday. I am not going to go through the pages I've missed over the weekend. My agenda is quite short but needs to go on record.
Allow me state that I am recently married and have a little one on the way. I tell you that so that you may better understand the amount of things I have going on around home. I have yet to set up the office or the computer. That being the case, I have been absent from the board for several weekends now. It is important to me that everyone knows this. I do not want to be perceived as a fair weather type. Now that I have established that, allow me to finish with this.
To all my fellow posters who are fans of the Hebron program and LISD, I say congratulations! The game that you all played was simply fantastic. I talked alot of smack last week. While it was all good natured and nothing to apologize for, I'm here to say I was wrong. I listened to the game off and on as it was my wife's bday on Friday. I watched the tape delay broadcast when we got home, however. I've been a fan of your program for several years for many reasons. All of which were confirmed on Friday as you dominated my alma mater. It killed to hear and watch because those are my Dragons but the Hawks left no doubt. The district trophy is yours. You won it. With any luck, we'll get our stuff together and see you guys down the line. Best wishes and let's keep 6-5A going into December!

Amen to that.
Hopefully there will be something on the DMN web site Friday night, but not sure I will stay up that long, especially since we know Hebron will be D2 # 1 and just have to wait for confirmation of who, when and where.
