I think La Porte wins. And here's why: Cy-Falls lost to Tomball who lost to Clear Lake who lost to La Porte.

How's that for some justification in my prediction? :D

They have a very good offense (although tonight you wouldn't have thought that). The quarterback is definetly the leader. Their defense is average (although tonight you wouldn't have thought that). Their secondary is their strong point on D.

strong secondary. great. :( passing is our strongest suit (which is not saying much). sounds likke a good match-up so far.

La Porte beat a good Humble team that has been famous for shooting themselves in the foot all year. They handed the game to the Bulldogs. Third round games are always more of a "Whoever makes the mistakes will be cleaning out their lockers" type games. Falls made their share of mistakes with Jesuit. They cannot play like that in this round to move on. Their QB is inexperienced, being his fourth start this year. All in a row. If he can improve his passing, Falls will have an edge.
Like I said, turnovers will skew the quality of a team and the final score. Look to having a good match up here in Katy Friday night.
Don't be fearful if you hear TIGERS roaring in the area. They will just be getting ready for Saturday.
Hey, CyFallsMom, Where are you?? See you at the game.

Hey, CyFallsMom, Where are you?? See you at the game.

I'm here - went to the Renaissance Festival and just got back. You Katy Tigers need to sit on our side!!! We had a few of you on our side on Friday but it would be great to have you ALL on our side - after all, if we win, we will be playing you guys next so it's your only chance :) I saw how much you added to the spirit of Strake's side and, I'm being selfish here, I want some of that spirit - it's the greatest :D Now, what about LaPorte - I'm dying to know what they are about - I know absolutely nothing about them. Humble had a good season and LaPorte beat them pretty handily.

Falls will probably be in for a tough game and could lose if their coaches make some of those weird coaching decisions they made against Strake. Falls was making 5yrds per carry running the ball and then starting going on a passing spree with an unexperienced QB. That let Strake in the game and then they call a pitch out while in their own endzone which resulted in a safety. Falls could have just run the ball and they would have pounded Strake and then the game wouldn't have wound up so close. LaPorte just might have the team to make Falls pay dearly for the type of coaching mistakes they committed.

Don't make the mistake and forget about DeeWee or Boogie's favorite target Dustin Kempf. La Porte was one of the few district opponents that actually hung around with North Shore for a short while before being taken down. However the have a decent offense and a defense that is pretty decent too. And as long as Boogie is on the field you can be guaranteed he's going to make somethign happen.

I do hope that Cy-Falls decides to pass on La Porte rather then run on them. The Bulldog secondary is senior-laden and has all kinds of experience along with talent. The linebackers are suspect. They can be run on.

CyFalls wins. Haven't seen LaPorte, just going by their offensive stats against Humble. Not impressive at all. Humble had EIGHT turnovers.

CyFalls has a pretty good defense so I don't see LaPorte scoring often.

CyFalls has great interior lines on both sides. If they don't get too cute on offense they should wear LaPorte down...

CyFalls 27 LaPorte 13

Drake - you hit the nail on the head - my thoughts exactly. I think we will be fine - just keep penalties and turnovers down. I saw those stats and wasn't overly impressed either but each game is a new day...you never know what can happen.

LaPorte wins this one. Laporte had a good season and anyone who can hang with Humble whether it be due to defense or offense is ok. Have seen Falls three times this year and got to be one of the most unimaginative teams I have seen. Coaching is laughable. Sitting on a 13 point lead with 4-5 minutes left and have been running all night and then you start passing when its not your strength? And what was that pitch back 10 yards deep in the end zone with the ball on the 2 yard line when you are trying to punch it out and run the clock and hang on to your lead. Had it not been for an equally stupid call by Strake's coach to pass on 4th and one from the nine with 40 seconds left and 1 time out left and he throws into the endzone??????????? What were those calls. Actually neither team should have won that game based on each coach trying their best to give the other team the win. I hate to see it come down to stupidity from the coaches when the kids have played so hard and fairly well. I will be on the Cy Falls side on Friday but will wear RED again. You'll see lots of RED on Friday. We want whoever wins to get used to seeing RED. The winner will see lots of RED in the next game!

Cy Falls Mom, we definitely accept your invitation. I was impressed with your win over Memorial and thought you could take out Strake in a battle due to the style of play and power you had. I am not impressed with the coaching calls and that pitchback out of the endzone would not have made your coaches geniuses regardless of the outcome. Has to be the second dumbest call I have ever seen. The first dumbest has to go to Strake for the 4th and 1 call from the nine yard line at the end of the game to preserve your lead which had dwindled to 5 points by that time. Both of those teams should thank the other team's coaches for making it an exciting finish. If your coaches dont get stupid again, you should have a chance at this game as you are probably deeper and more power oriented than Laporte. But I will be on your side. Are you home or visitor for this one?

La Porte will win this one. The secondary played like never before. I am a graduate of La Porte 1985 and live in Atlanta and flew down to see this game. Been a while that the dogs have been in this situation. Boogie will continue to run the team for the dogs and will do great and I am also the Uncle of Quentin Castille - Running Back. Will not make the game this week but already have reservations for the winner of Katy/West Brook. Go Dogs.

I just saw on the Cy Falls athletic website that we are sitting on the home side - can someone confirm that? I had seen on this website that we were on the visitor side. It really doesn't matter - I just need to know where to park my ride :p Oh, and all those Katy fans need to know where to sit ;) . Hey, we need that Katy spirit!!!

Hopefully, we can get a lot of the 17-5a fans out there this week too - didn't see any last week at all...just a few Katy fans on our side. So, yes, I am calling out Ridge, Creek, Langham, Springs, Fair (if you aren't playing at the same time), JV, Tomball and Magnolia - come out and support Cypress Falls (and Cy Fair too - not sure when they are playing though) - wear your school colors so it's REALLY colorful on our side!

Rhodes is not that far - the easiest way to get there is to go down 529 to the Katy Hockley cutoff and turn left and drive until you see the stadium - you will hit NO traffic once you get past Fry Road...unless of course, it is Falls traffic...we had quite a line of cars coming back on Friday.

I somehow don't think the Cy Falls coaches...or ANY high school coaches for that matter want or need to take coaching advice from some players mom. High school football fans never cease to amaze me. Everyone thinks they are an authority just because they may have played a little in hiogh school or watched a few games on tv. I don't know, maybe there's a few XBox champs on here.

After reading several of the posts on this forum I can see why someone above asked what side CyFalls Mom was going to be sitting on.

I think they said that to be funny. Anyone who knows me knows I am passionate about all of my teams - from Falls to University of Texas to the Astros - when you are passionate, you sometimes get angry about it too. I am not, nor have I ever been a coach but anyone who knows football, knows you really don't do a pitch out 10 yards deep in the endzone with 3 minutes left and only up by 7. It was a risky play to begin with and it didn't work. I was not the one calling the coaches egotistical or morons (see the thread under Strake Vs Cy Falls) - I think they are fine people to a man - I just didn't understand that play.

That was me...an attempt at humor.

Myself and several Katy fans (including a former player who said he now appreciates Katy's coaches now more than ever) were astounded by the play calling toward the end of the game. They had the game all but put away and almost succeeded in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They were throwing when all that was needed was to run the clock. The rushing game had been good all night. I really don't know what the coaches were thinking.

CyFalls Mom - I'll be on your side this time (in red). ;)

Thanks Tut!! We'll be honored to have you and all the other Katy fans on our side :). What Cyfallsbooster said about the ever changing defense - all true! Every game this year has been unique and I noticed a different game yet again on Friday - sometimes it is euphoric, sometimes gut wrenching...gotta love high school football. Hope Friday is in the euphoric category.

My mistake CyFallsMom. I was going back and forth between this thread and the other one and I mistakenly thought you were someone else. I thought you were the mother of one of the players that likes to cuase problems. You sound like a great ambassador for Cy Falls.

I just get pretty sick of people who know very little about football badmouthing the coaches. Everyone always thinks they could do it better but it's just a little more complicated than what they see in the stands. I was at the game but had to leave before the end so I didn't see the pitch play from the endzone. I have no idea what kind of alignment the defense was in or what any of the particulars were so I can't say if it was a good call or not.

I do know that Falls wasn't having any trouble running around the end for the whole game that I was able to see. We seemed to have too much speed for their D and I wouldn't necessarily call that a bad call. We just didn't like the outcome but hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

I think that with the way our defense was playing and our offenses ability to jump out to a good lead it looked over at the half. Maybe they were trying to work in some more passing because this QB has only played a couple of weeks and needed the work. We have looked good on offense for the last several weeks but just seem to keep shooting ourself in the foot with dropped balls, fumbles, etc. A seemingly insurmountable lead in a game isn't a bad time to try and overcome some of that. Practice time is one thing, game action is another completely.

I think there is little doubt though that Strake surprised our coaches and turned out to be a little better team than they expected...especially in the 2nd half. But let's not forget that we still won and this game can only help us in our next one.

No problem - No I'm not a football mom - my son was in the band for 4 years, had a daughter in Color Guard and my other daughter is on the softball team. I am a big fan of and support all Cy Falls athletics though - these kids deserve to have the backing of all parents of the school. I agree with your post here - our mistakes seem to hurt us more than the other team does. That's something that's hard to work on this late in the season but we'll see how it goes Friday - either way, I am so proud of that team. I know how you feel about bleacher coaches too - I have been guilty of being one more than once but it irritates me too! I just guess I didn't understand why, with the success they were having at the running game, they didn't stick with it but I guess they were working Welch in a little more - I have been very impressed with that young man though. To come in at the time in the season that he did and be as successful as he has is just to be commended. I hope he keeps it up this week.

The last two weeks the Chronicle has had Falls listed as Home and Visitor when we were just the opposite. I'd bet on the Falls website being correct.

I usually sit around the 40 yard line about halfway up - Green and Gold Cypress Falls jacket...not too many of them because only the band parents wear this particular one. I'm a college band parent now but the jacket still travels with me. I always try to get there pretty early to watch warm ups and such. At this point in the playoffs mistakes make a big difference and an inexperienced QB can get rattled in a hurry. Thats why the Dawgs will take this one with the play of Boogie at QB. He is a great QB that has lots of experience and is not one to get rattled under pressure. Can't say the same for Falls.

You make a good point - I've heard he's a really good QB too. I absolutely love his name - what a football name!! I'm still of the school that Defense wins the games - how is La Portes D? Looked pretty good against Humble.

Their "D" is adequate. They shut down Humble because they got down early and had to rely on the pass. Humble's QB threw about 10 ill advised passes. They are vulnerable to the run. The key comes down to turnovers, special teams and QB play. I really like LP in this game, Boogie has "it" and his teamates know it and feed off of it. He is never rattled, and he will not slide or look for a sidelines, he will lower his head and run you over. And he's only a Junior.

They have a good RB combo (Castilla, and DeeWee) and a good TE. I dont think they can beat Katy, but I do think they will get by CyFalls.

The D stepped up against Humble which would have been what I considered the weak point but they really did a number on them. La Porte should have never lost the game against Deer Park at the end of the season with 2 touchdowns being called back (ref's floor me sometimes, almost like they wanted Deer Park to make playoffs).

Another X-Factor in this game is that the dawgs have a great special teams, that came up big numerous games. They blocked 3 kicks to overcome a 21 point 4th quarter deficit against Clear Lake to come back and win that game. The only thing I've seen stop Boogie (yah..great football name) is his own recievers drop a pass. I read where Falls had speed that got to Strakes D around the end, well La Porte has speed to match. Thats why I believe this game will come down to mistakes and I know that La Porte will bring the pressure on the inexperienced Falls QB and they have the speed to do it.

Obviously this is just my opinion and I was wrong about NS and Clear Creek (my two upset picks) last week so Falls could pull this one out.

It'll be a good game either way - looking forward to it.

all i can and will say is that they better be ready for those dogs, they are ready and nothing is going to stop them. those boys have really proven themselves and every since they all played little league they talked about how they were going to be in high school and as a coach for them, they have proven themselves. question? Who let them dogs out, well we all let them out and they will show up in Katy on Friday.

I'm really looking forward to the game. From what I can tell, La Porte is a good team but then, when you get this deep into the playoffs you are going to be facing good teams every week. I don't really know a lot about what La Porte runs, their offense, their defense, etc.

Falls runs a fairly sophisticated pro style offense (sophisticated for high school that is) We run mostly out of the shotgun and do some zone reads in the running game. We also have a pretty good passing game and our new QB has done a pretty decent job of reading the coverages. Especially considering this will only be his 4th game I think. Our OL can open some good holes and our backs have pretty good speed. Dobbin does a really good job of finding and hitting the holes. We have 3 good receivers. Roger Holland can catch and never seems to get down on himself if a play doesn't work out. Just a real competitor. Jack Freeman and Anthony price have great speed and are 2 of the top track guys (400) in the state. Jack would have made a great RB if he had a little more size on him. He's got some great moves and great speed which you will see on catches and returns. At his size though he would have had a tough time standing up to carrying the ball 25 times or so a game.

Our strength is our defense though. For the most part we have put our better athletes on defense and it shows. Good speed and they pack a load when they hit you. From what I can tell, they are two pretty evenly matched teams though so it should be a good one. I'll get to see my Longhorns put a whallop on the ags and then hopefully see Falls win later that night!

La Porte 32
Falls 14

La Porte has been underrated all year , not a bad team at all their special teams are the key

If LaPorte's D is vulnerable to the run then this will be a good game 'cause Falls is a good running team. This game should be close and competitive...a good game for 5A football fans.

Their run defense is their weak point. Especially if the running back is quick enough to get outside.

Now, there is a freshman defensive lineman that tends to put pretty consistent pressure on the QB. Here's hoping it continues.

Ramz, glad I saw your post as I went to your website and will be buying some great shots your took at the Falls Strake game.

As far as Falls chances against the Bullllldogs, I hope they under estimate the eagles.

Falls has some great athletes and I will put our coaches ability to put a game plan together to attack another playoff team against anyone.

For a team that started 7 to 10 sophomores last year and went 3 rounds in the playoffs, no one has picked us to win either of our last two playoff games.

The under dog role is fine with me.

It should come down to turnovers and mistakes.

Looking forward to a great game.

Falls has a good O-line. Maybe they will run it up the middle. Falls' D-line is pretty good too.

Hello <waving hands> - West Brook! Real good football team! Future D-1 quarterback, two playoff wins including a win over the best Houston Madison team in years, only loss is to Westfield.

Just a little reminder for all the other people in red shirts in this thread who seem to think Katy gets some sort of automatic bye Saturday and will be moon walking into next week's game.

See, here is the thing about football: the rules allow EITHER TEAM to win. I can't find anyplace where there is something about Katy being granted some sort of 'show up and you win' magic wand.

People who take things for granted and walk around with big swollen heads get very top heavy and have a tendancy to fall flat on their faces.

Do i like our CHANCES in Saterday's game? Yes, I think we have a good CHANCE to win.

Lots of serious work to do Saturday at Rice stadium.

Hello. Is this microphone working? HELLO!

P.S. CyFallsMom: you'll be able to pick me out easily at Friday's game, I'll be the one wearing a red shirt .

You won't hear me taking Beaumont West Brook lightly. Not after playing Plano, Garland, SV and lately Clear Lake. Katy and no other team left in the playoffs is guaranteed a win. You must do it on the field and this Saturday's game is the biggest game of the season because you go home if you lose.

Sarcasm will get you everywhere:) :) You and 500 others wearing the red shirts - y'all will probably outnumber the Green and Gold unless we get some people off their behinds and to the game this week. My hope is for Texas to win in the morning and Cypress Falls at night. I put my Christmas tree up tonight - every year that I have put it up on Thanksgiving or before, Texas won the game. Those two wins would constitute a perfect day for me:D It's already close considering we are still going to watch the Golden Eagles play and it's Thanksgiving weekend!! I'll be looking for the red shirts tomorrow;)

I want to meet CyFallsMom and talk some marching band in between quarters (I remember some good band posts from last year). I'll be rooting for you to play the Tigers next week. After you figure out where you are sitting, let me know and I'll look for you also.

It was so nice to meet you and KTCarl!! L.D. Bell band Rocks by the way!! I had the worse headache from screaming after that one touchdown (the punt return one) that I had to go visit my old band parent friends who were chaperoning to take some of the advil they had:rolleyes: Looks like the possibility of Cy Falls and Katy meeting is getting closer to reality...what a fun game that would be (just beat Beaumont Westbrook tomorrow please!). Tonights game was almost too much to handle - LaPorte just about beat us there at the end - what a gutsy play that was on their part.
