Get in line with several of the rest of us. We outplayed them in just about every aspect of the game and still wound up losing. Waco took them to 3 OT's! I can't remember the HH and Shoemaker scores, but I think one of those was very close as well.

They get the job done. Continued good luck to Cove.

HH had a lead til the 4th quarter where the conditioning of the Cove team made the difference and playing a full 4 quarters.

Hats off to a Leander team that was well disciplined and never gave up.
I agree that Cove dominated them to a degree and most of those Leander points in the 4th quarter were against the prevent defense and not the same defensive scheme we were using in the first 3 quarters.

I was impressed by the sportsmanship demonstraited by both teams and there was some awesome hits in this game.
I do not think Leander played their best game because i thought their offense would be more explosive and throwing that ball all over the field.

Cove D was there and made big plays. Leander seem to have stepped it up a notch and actually started to stop the Cove run up the middle that worked so well last week.

Good luck on next season and there is nothing but respect for your program.

I would have to agree that Cove dominated, game was in hand for Dawgs by end of 3rd 35-14....Dunn is a great QB, but Cove D had him flustered all night, he came alive against prevent D and got a few TD's but it was never as close at the final indicated......

The closest was in 1991...Killeen High won the first Big School State Championship.....Waco High went to the semi-finals and lost to Odessa Permian (who went on to win state the next game)

Im a little dissapointed that Drew didnt get a chance to throwcase his throwing and decision making as well as we could have tonight. He never had more than 3 seconds to throw the ball, and our offense is made up of big plays. Thats how we win games and we didnt have time to have a single big play. Copperas cove has the best team i've ever seen play Leander in my short history of watching Leander Football (the only closer competition was Allen back in the quarter finals). They were just amazing in the backfield with their rb having a bunch of speed and their full back getting 5 yards a pop. With the skill players cove had and their Oline they could have an average qb and still be 11 and 0. But they have more than an average qb, they had Brent Garner. Brent is one of those qbs where you look at his attributes and hes not really even that good but then hes just a pest (the same as Drew in most cases). You dont think hes that big, that fast, or taht good of an arm, then he pops off a 35 yard run, or a perfect strike on a fade route. Our secondary is young, and Billy still isnt 100% so we couldnt have stuck him back their but they got burned alot all night from the play action.And their pass rush was simply just faster than our linemen and they got to Drew all night. Hell of a game guys, i'm not just saying this because you just beat my team, but i really predict you guys to represent region 2 in the final 4.

I was at the game and Leander has a heck of a team but in 2005 the Dawgs have a REAL heck of a team and they are playing well at the right time.

Good job DAWGS!!! Go 13-5A Saw AMC Friday and Dawgs Saturday lot of miles on the car but it was well worth it. :D
