Welcome Mr. Clean...not sure how Monroe qualifies as deep East Texas.
Is that like Texas being North Mexico?

I gotcha...The good folks of Loo-ziana probably
don't like being referred to as anything Texas though.
They play some pretty good football over there too...

Actually P-Haze, I'm a fairly big Evangel fan. :D
I help run the boards over at Texashsfootball.com and I also do some part-time writing for the Louisiana rivals site.
I'm always on the lookout for more boards to peruse, though, and you guys do a good job over here.

No, but that's partially because I have a degree from Tulane. I love to root against LSU.

Right now, West Monroe is my second-ranked team in the state, regardless of classification, with Class A Evangel being number one overall.
WM returns only a couple of players on offense, but one of them is RB Frank Gooden, who compiled almost 2,000 yards rushing last season.
On defense, they have a couple of studs in junior (to be) DL Will Blackwell (remember that name, he's huge, smart, and has a great motor) and senior LSU commit LB Shomari Clemons.
The key is the sophomore QB that will be running the I-option for WM. He's highly touted, but that's a pressure cooker of a position over there.
Evangel is in Class A? I heard something was going on there, but class A. Playing district & the play-offs won't be much comp. Not trying to start anything Mr_Clean. Just doesn't sound right with EC being A.

Their actual enrollment class is only A. The schools in the LHSAA were allowing numerous public and private schools to play up in class, but that rule was changed this winter.
John Curtis is now in 2A, as opposed to 4A.
There will actually be three defending state champs in Louisiana Class A: Evangel (defending 5A champ), West St. John (defending 2A champ; public school that had been playing up one class), and the defending Class A champ - Dunham School of Baton Rouge (formerly known as Trafton Academy; produced NFL player Todd Kinchen).
There will be a another reclassification meeting in two years and hopefully the LHSAA will recognize the error of its ways at that time.

evangel in 1a?? that is going to be very ugly!! when the non district schedule ends evangel is going to be very bored. this could hurt them in the long run though. kids will not want to move out there to play football anymore. oh i guess that is why this was probably done huh??

i think?? and didn't lufkin's bart baldwin kick for tulane for a while?? deaton is a defense attorney now and he represents mostly scum. :) he is the attorney for this hispanic kid now that stepped on his girlfriends stomach so she would lose her twins. he succeeded. they both were a part of it though. it is getting all kinds of national attention because he can be tried for murder but she cannot. cnn, abc, etc etc is here in lufkin. i just do not know if i could be a defense attorney. it would be hard to sleep at night with some of these people you have to represent.
back to tulane in baseball. i will take teams with more experience like texas, cal st fullerton, miami, florida st or rice over tulane.

Yes, that's exactly why it was done. A principal at a large school in Baton Rouge was quoted as such. However, I'm not sure that it will have too great an effect. There wasn't a mass exodus (or any noteable exits) of transfers from Evangel this spring.
I think that the kids will stay as long as ECA keeps sending kids into the major college ranks, and that won't change over the next couple of years, because there are several D-1 prospects....actually, more than several - more like an abundance.
It will be interesting to watch...I personally think that the LHSAA will allow Evangel to play up again in a couple of years, after the Class A schools take a pounding. There is a school in Evangel's district that only dressed out 12 players recently.
On a related note, ECA was in the top five nationally in every poll when they were in 3A, so they were attracting top players before ever moving to 5A.

I think who you are talking about is the center, Tim Crain (I know his last name was Crain, but not sure about his first name) He played for Tulane in the early 90s. Dont think Deaton played for them, but Crain was a genious. He could have gotten a full ride anywhere for academics. I heard he got kicked out of Tulane for buying liquor for a minor in a bar (couldnt be that smart)

is longview going for 3 or 4 in a row vs evangel?? 5 or 6 more and they can tease yall like lufkin teases longview about the 9 game winning streak. lufkin played against some of the best evangel teams in 00 and 01 when they lost. in fact, i think longview lost to evangel in 01 also. longview has evangel's number now though and i must say we texans enjoy that. evangel has a 4 or 5 game losing streak to texas teams if you throw abilene in there.

Not so fast, my friend. :)
Evangel has a losing streak against Texas 5A, but they did narrowly defeat Texas High last year.
Not taking anything away from Longview and Abilene (which were Top 30 national teams last year, IMO), but Evangel hasn't been as strong the past two years.
ECA hasn't had a true QB since John David Booty left. They'll have one this fall, so that won't be an excuse this year for me. :D
The QB looked rusty in the spring scrimmage, but he had only been on the practice field for a couple of weeks due to the baseball playoffs.
Longview is going for four in a row and will get it, IMO.

Unfortunately, Evangel is now in an eight team district, so they only have three non-district games. That wiped out the series with Abilene. :(

Yes, it will be interesting to see what Coach Dunn does with that.
The ECA third-string could score at will on some of the teams (Cotton Valley, Bernice, Sarepta), while Haynesville might be able to keep the score respectable against the ECA starters.
Last year, Sterlington defeated Davidson by a score in the neighborhood of 90-6, which sparked an outcry.
Evangel could beat some of the teams in their district by over 100-0. The question is whether Coach Dunn will keep his freshmen from scoring (have them kneel on the ball every play) or whether he'll let them play. There are people who feel strongly that ECA should show some mercy and there are those who feel that ECA should send the LHSAA a lesson by continuing to score.

Yep. I agree, the state powers that be shouldn't have put those poor 1A boys in that predicament to begin with. You can't tell your kids, especially the back-ups, not to score. If there are some 100 point victories, it just has to be that way to send the message, a message grown a$$ men should have gotten to begin with.

I think it's an interesting subject. Do you embarrass these 1a teams?? Do you show mercy because they didn't ask for these beatings(in fact, I bet they tried to fight it)??

Oddly enough, most of the Class A coaches have embraced playing Evangel. That mindset may change after it actually occurs.
The issues will be how early should Coach Dunn pull his starters and will he let the freshmen continue to score after Evangel hits 100 points?
On the one hand, I'm sure that Evangel would love to send the LHSAA a message, but on the other hand, the overwhelming majority of Class A schools have been gracious in not complaining about having to face Evangel. My guess is that Coach Dunn will pull his starters early in the second half, but will allow his freshmen to continue to play ball.
There is one possible exception - Calvary Baptist Academy - which was coached last year (but won't be this year) by Johnny Booty, former well-known ECA assistant coach and, of course, father of Josh, Abram, and John David Booty.
The senior Booty is still a prominent figure at Calvary Baptist, although the head coach is now former Green Bay QB Doug Pederson.
Their is NO love lost between Calvary and Evangel.
